How often do you visit your family ?

I hav eoften heard it said that the holidays are for family and now that the holidays are coming up I guess family would be on our minds right ?.I must admit that this discussion has been inspired in part by the fact that this discussion is being writing from the living room of my mother . Now my mother lives in a neighbouring district and I havent visited her in a couple of months (yes I am ashamed of that fact ) even though we talk regularly and so now that I am on my vacation I thought I would go and spend a few days with her. So now is the moment of truth , how often do you see your family members ?.Do you make special effort to see them on a scheduled basis like every month or do you only see them on holdidays or do you only see them when you have family gatherings and similar family occasions ?.

I have three children that live with me but other than that, my family is all out west. I hardly ever seen them as it is very far for us. It is too much for me to go there to visit with three children. And it is hard for them to get away from work long enough for a visit here. Usually every few years or so my father or sister makes a visit up my way, but it has been a while now since I went down to see them.

In your case I can understand because that would be very costly and time consuming I guess you will have to make special plans for that .Hope you will get to see them soon though

I do not get to visit with my family very much. My husband and I work seven days a week so it just does not leave much time for anything. We will get together with my family for the holidays though.

First off let me say that if anyone still lives with their parents or relatives your answer doesn't count (everyday). When I was in college I would see my parents almost every weekend. When I graduated and got a job almost every month. As I moved on in life almost every holiday (birthdays, Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc.) Now I'm lucky if I see them twice a year. I think the reason is that as we get older we are handed more responsibilities, which take up our time and energy. There just doesn't seem to be enough impulse anymore to visiting family. Sad isn't it? Maybe that will be my new years resolution, to visit my family on all the major holidays.

before I got married I usually visit my family every weekend. But now that I am already married and already have a child I could not travel much anymore since my family's place is still 3 hours drive away from us. It is really not good for a baby to travel that long since they are easily stress. So in that, it is the other way now. My family is the one who visits us every weekend.

On every wkly holiday i visit my parents. As they are staying quite close to my location, so it is easy. It is better to visit them. For them we are in this world today. Thank you.

I don't visit my immediate family often since they live in another continent. My parents visit me every year. And since we visit our native place atleast once a year, I get to meet the extended family then. But as far as my parents and sister are concerned, they are the ones that visit me. But we visit our in-laws every year. My folks, we talk to every week...my sister and I talk everyday...and my extended family once in a month atleast. My in-laws...don't call or talk to me...my husband calls them often enough. Last month was the first time that we had a full family re-union at my in-laws (since our wedding)

I stay with my mother. I live in a joint family, and my mother has been always staying with me. My daughter is married, and stays in the same town as I live. She tries to come over and see me at least once in fifteen days, since she has a small baby, it is not possible for her to make the trip regularly. So I try to visit her atleast once in a fortnight or so. In this way all are happy.

In the past I travelled a lot, and I was sometimes away from my family for months, but we kept in touch via phonecalls and letters. My situation is different now, and my husband and I, my parents and my mother-in-law all live on the same island, and we see eachother quite often. I live in village in the western part of the island and my parents live in the biggest city. My brother lives in another part of the country, but sometimes my husband, my brother, my brother's girlfriend and I meet at parents' house. It is very nice to be together, and I know that my parents are really happy when we are all there.

I see my family every day, because I live with them. My two older, married siblings I see about once a week. My brother I see even more than that. My cousins I see sometimes quite often, like every other week. Sometimes I don't see them for a few months. My more extended family I only see once a month (if even that much) since they live about 1 1/2 hours away.

My Mother is still living at the age of 92 1/2. I see her 5 days a week, cook breakfast and lunch for her and do housework. So I see her often, not just on a holiday. The only times I've ever went a long time without seeing my parents is the times we lived in other states when my husband was in the Air Force and we couldn't get home. I'd go every week anyway if I wasn't helping her.

I am just as bad as you I guess...my mother lives about 15 minutes away and I see her maybe once or twice a week but we talk to one another at least once a day if not more. As for the rest of my family I barely ever see them maybe once a year. I have a few of them that I communicate with through emails or facebook but other than that there isn't much. I feel bad about it but I also think to myself that they never make the effort either. My husbands family live in different states so we don't see them nearly as much probably about once a year as well. We used to do holidays together with both families but the past few years it has been a lot harder so now it is just my husband and kids getting together with my mother and her boyfriend for the holidays. The past two years she has done Thanksgiving and I have taken care of Christmas. It is easier to do Christmas just because the kids want to play with their new toys all day instead of heading off to grandmas for the day. I enjoy the holidays with my mom and her boyfriend but it would be nice to have a little bit more family to spend it with as well.

i think i'm ashamed of it, cause now i'm living far away from my parents. i'm living and working in the neighbouring province, very far from my hometown. now i only visit my parents once or twice each year after i graduated and worked here. but i know i'll change it later. because i and my brother will pick my parents here to live with us .

I only visit my relatives in my father's side during holidays. I am suppose to go there every weekends to spend time with them but because I go to college now and there's so much school stuff, I don't usually make it. I live alone now, with the caretaker of the house for that matter. Both of my parents work abroad. I haven't seen my other relatives in my mother's side for almost 2 years now, but my mom said we'll be going there this summer when she goes home. I am really looking forward to it. Take care! :)
