Have your heard of Security Tool?

It is a bad thing, and you do not want to hear of it. I got home from work early today and headed for my computer. I found Security Tool running and giving me warnings. Turns out this is malware or something, and it had completely hijacked my computer. It even seemed to intercept the start up instructions and all commands that could shut it down. My son downloaded a program to help with the problem; he had to put it on a USB drive, but he had to outwit Security Tool to be able to install it on my computer to remove threats. The freeware that is cleaning my computer is running now, and I am working just a bit on my favorite sites. I am glad he could help. What do you do when you have computer problems?

Hi Gerty, don't scare me like that please. A while back my sons laptop got infected with nasty trojans which were put on by one of the anti virus viruses, 34 of them in total which made the thing entirely inoperable. No one round here hardly knows anything about computers except the guy who fixes them for exorbitant rates by the hour, so I posted the problem on here and a friend posted incredibly un tecno instructions for me to follow and it was all cleaned up in 30 minutes, whereas I was going to take it up the mountain with me where people were planning to reload all new stuff onto it. So it's definitely worth trying on here first.

This one would not let us do anything. I think he finally outgunned it and blocked it before it could block him. He had an evil laugh when he did it, too.

I have not had this type of problem before, at least to this extent. I did have a burnt out connection for my laptop, that people could not find. I frequently run scans and stuff, but this one just was awful.

I have security tools on my computer to keep mine in good condition. When I have computer problems, I am normally the one who fixes it because the people around me and the people I live with don't know much about computers as I do. I'm not even a computer genius but at least I know enough to know what to do. If I don't, I call home service repairs.

That is a good choice if it gets past your security tools.

I hate it when things go bad on my computer cause I dont no nothing about the problems. When this happends to me I have to take it to a place that works on computers. You are so lucky that you have your son to help you with the problems. I dont even no what a security tool is. What is a USB drive anyway?

Security Tool is the name of the scamming website that took over my computer. Sounds legit, but it is bad stuff. A USB drive is also known as a thumb drive or a flash drive. It is an external memory device that is about the size of an old fashioned pack of gum. He downloaded the free software that we ended up using to clean up my computer onto one, because he could not bring it up on my computer, the Security Tool malware kept blocking the new software, and shut down, and anything else I could think of. I have not seen you in awhile, babystar.

I also had been victimized by these rogue virus/worm/malware thing around the net. I noticed that when I was using AVG free before and there was a time in AVG that the software seemed to have stopped working and this warning signs also started to popup when I was on the net. I got hooked in and my computer slowly crashed and was not booting properly. I have no other choice but to reformat my HD sincethat is the safest way to ensure that the virus won't remain from your pc.
Here at work, there are about three units that also got infected by it and the only thing that could make it run normally again was to make format it all over again.

That is the most feared thing if it happens to my computer. My sons are competent when it comes to addressing computer problems but since they are not staying with me I have no choice but to run to the computer specialist to help me get my computer in order.

When we did need to use someone, we tried three times to get stuff fixed before we found a really talented young man who fixed what the others had missed.

You have the pants scared off me..GG! Where the heck did this "Security Tool" come from? The reason you had me on the edge, is that I TRY to be incredibly cautious with all sites that I go on, as there is NO computer techies in my area! In order for me to have a computer serviced...I have to pay for them to get on a FERRY, ride the Ferry for 3 hours, do computer repair...their WAIT time for next Ferry..and their return journey. A computer repair, to me, runs in the area of the price of a new computer.
My alternative is to wait for my son to come home, and that could be anywhere from 3 to 4 weeks! And then it remains to see whether he can correct the problem or not!
You really have me scared..GG! Can you recommend anything I can do to avert this kind of problem? OMG! AM ON THE EDGE NOW! Cheers!

Oh yes - heard of that it goes by a ton of different names. Myself when i have a computer issue i fix it myself since thats my specialty. If its my moms and dads or sister's they to call me. I tend to have software on usb sticks and other drives for just incase - back ups and all that jazz.

Nope, I havent heard of that malware. Its kinda frustrating to know that malwares and viruses have not only taken an identity on their own but are using names that would intentionally deceive people.
Sure it might be in their nature to corrupt but still, this name brings in the form of betrayal. The user downloads or goes into the site with the thinking of having their computers protected only to find out that the very software their downloaded is the huge threat in itself.
Best be careful in anything, I guess.
When I have computer problems I try to solve it on my own first. When I have exhausted all possible knowledge and resource that I have then I guess its time to accept defeat and leave it to the professionals. Professionals meaning my friends who loves tinkering computers and would fix my computer without any charge. Of course Ill give them some form of compensation like a free snack or something to that effect.^_^

I really think this came with an e mail from my dad or someone else and my hubby opened it. I get alerts when my computer detects things, but I can see my husband missing it.

For the most part, I usually figure it out how to fix it myself. If I really, really get stuck on something, I ask my son-in-law. My son-in-law is a real whiz on the computer and is always working on somebody elses computer (his friends or their family, or somebody that was sent to him.) Funny, he never touched a computer till I let him work with mine, and then he was hooked. Guys like a sponge, he reads voraciously and so far can fix anything.
Too bad you got that Security Tool thing. Some of them resist getting rid of and you have to go into safe mode to get rid of them. Even then, sometimes they install strings in other places that have to be found and got rid of too to get completely rid of it. Glad your son is a whiz too and can help you out! (Glad too you're back online now:)

That is what got my Mom's computer. She signed up for videosquares and it latched on as soon as she registered and went to the game tab. She had to take it somewhere and get it fixed.

I have not heard of that but my son, a computer tech, was visiting this weekend and told me about Panda Cloud. It's free, it updates itself, you never have to pay any attention to it. It acts as a firewall and antivirus. So far, I love it!! If you had it, it would have detected that thing and neutralized it. Even if you download something that has a virus, it will take care of it before it affects your computer. If you already have crap on your computer, it will kick that out, too!
It won't run with Norton. In fact, my son won't work on a computer with Norton. He helped me remove mine, a special (free) tool is required to completely remove it. I love Panda Cloud, you should try it!

I hate computer problems, computers are great until you log onto the internet, then everything goes downhill. Its such a necessary evil that people put up with the crap just to stay in touch with their family and friends who don't live next door anymore. I just back up everything on an external hard drive, I may go down but I'm taking my stuff with me.

Panic. My husband inadvertantly downloaded something like that a few years ago. It was terrible to get rid of. My son moved down here, so if sonething goes wrong, he can usually fix it. My technical savy only extend as far as the left and right mouse button, and the on/off switch.
