How many times have you heard that or said that when someone is desperately searching round for their glasses which are no where to be found? Unbelievably this morning I found myself in a similar situation. Clothes laid out ready for after a hot shower in the cold house. Distracted by the telephone, wrapped in a towel, underwear no where to be found. A frantic moment looking everywhere before realising I'd put it on before answering the telephone and wrapped the towel back round. So what glaringly obvious things have you been looking for or mislaid?

I've been missing a pair of glasses for days and no, they are not on my head. I'm afraid I may have somehow left them in a shop though why I would remove them there I can't figure. They may be in my car which has been in for repair for a week...but then again, I was going shopping after I dropped the car off so that's not feasible. The only other place they might be is under my bed. I may have knocked them off the nightstand while I slept. I must get the broom handle out and see if that's where they are. Luckily, I have several pair for just this sort of emergency...oh, they all have coloured rims so they are a fashion statement too. Plus, I can't see a thing (up close, clearly) without them.

Hi Ms Tickle, another broom under the bed type for missing items I see, we have something in common. My problem when I mislay mine is I can't see to find them and don't need them for close ups just big things like cars and buildings. I do hope you find yours though, it's awful to lose something vital plus it may throw your colour co ordination off.

I'm sorry to hear you had no success with the broom. You'll just have to bedazzle in another pair.

Hi Thea! Elic always laughs at me. She hears me pawing around in drawers, poking into cabinets or closets, all the while grumping because I can't find whatever I'm looking for, & just as I holler "Where the heck did I put my oh HERE it is!" She says I lose more "Oh Here It Ises" than anything else. At least I can't blame that on Geezerhood; I've been misplacing things in plain sight all my life! Maggiepie WHERE'S THE REAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE?

Actually, I'm pretty good at organization, really. And some time a few years ago, I found out what made me so forgetful & took steps to alleviate the problem. Turns out I have sleep apnea, so my brain simply wasn't getting enough oxygen, but I had no idea until I underwent a sleep study. Now, I wear a bi-pap at night, & do certain breathing exercises, so the problem has largely disappeared! "There seems to be rather a lot of you on this thread." Is that a problem? Do you want me to leave? Maggiepie WHERE'S THE REAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE?

Hi Mags, now if you've always had the trait to do it all the time it must just be in you, just as some others are consisently organised and know where everything is through out life. There seems to be rather a lot of you on this thread. I tend to only mislay the things I've put somewhere safe so I won't forget where I've put them. I searched high and low for a browns scarf last winter only to find it in spring.

Clearly there is not a "lot of me" on this thread, so, what are you talking about? Maggiepie WHERE'S THE REAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE?

Hi Capsi, long time no see, hope all is well. Keys are easy for me, my car keys need to remain in the ignition so I can't possibly wonder where they are anymore. Hands are a good place to mislay something though.

Why do you have to keep your keys in the ignition ? How do you get in the house? If I did that my car would be gone faster than the blink of a eye. Years ago we could do this but our small town,is turning into a cultural arena. Not putting anyone down but why my small town??? I guess its time for me to move. I resent the fact that they are making group homes for people who live in cities trying to improve there quality of life. Not many change just have more chances seeing we are still a bit gullible in this respect.

The man at the garage suggested it to save money rather than having an expensive repair done. If the keys come out of the ignition the steering column locks and the key won't turn. If I leave it in all the time it works. It means I have to lock the car of course in case someone took off with it, but I'm still insured as long as it is locked. Car theft just isn't done though round here. I've gladly let a stranger get it out of a blocked in parking space when I've given up in frustration, knowing full well they are just coming to my aid. In the UK I'd never have done that as probably wouldn't have seen the car again. Sorry to hear you're getting crime your way.

Hi scarlet, that's one place I never lose mine as never put them up there. There's a guy round here I always laugh at with his sunglasses as he keeps them on even when it's gone dark thinking they make him look cool. Sometimes he puts them on top of his cap on his head and you can just see how lost he is without being able to wear them.

I do the same actually, I set off driving in my sunglasses at near dark the other day as I know on certain bends on the mountain I'm going to be sun blinded with the sunset as it is very strong. The cars coming the other way all have their headlights on.

I’ve done the glasses are on your head thing several times! A couple of months ago my daughter and I went out and half way to our destination I asked her to check if my cell phone was in my bag and she said it wasn’t so much to her dismay, I turned around and went back home to retrieve it because I knew I would be needing it later in the day. When we arrived home, I could not find the phone any where so I decided to ring the number and...You guessed it, the ringing came from my bag!

My daughter is only eight and you're right she often doesn't see what's in front of her nose! I put a phone through the wash once because I had put it in my jeans pocket after getting in trouble with my husband for not hearing the phone inside my bag! I have a lock on mine now so it doesn't call anyone on its own!

Hi paula, presuming your daughter is a child they aren't very good at seeing what is right in front of their noses in the first place. You do the classic ring the mobile to find it though, I do that too. I don't know why I bother with mine in the first place because I never hear it ringing if it is in my bag, unless my son tells me my bag is ringing. It also dials people on its own while its any there.

it does happen sometimes that the thing i need urgently gets mysteriously misplaced and when the related work is over i find it right in front of my eyes....(so..it seems to be a common phenomenon...). another thing that happens is related to junk, i seem to find a need for it after i have thrown it away..

Hi sunny, I definitely relate to the last one, when I have a clear out I think I've never used that or will never wear that again, thus out they go to create more space and then I spend ages looking for whatever it was when I need it. It seems that the misplacing of things is certainly a common thing.

I am a firm believer in "A place for everything and everything in its place" so I don't often lose something unless hubby has had it out and put it back in the wrong place. However, at times my office is a maze of papers because I am working on a number of projects at a time. Of course, I always have at least two electric fans working. Now, fans and papers do not mix, so I have a weight on each pile of papers. Quite often I will slip a piece of paper half under a pile to keep it from flying. Can you believe how difficult it can be sometimes to find ONE piece of paper among a number of piles of paper? (I've never yet found one on my head, but I'll remember to look next time. On second thoughts, one fan is directed straight at my face, so paper wouldn't stay put on my head) Of course, where I usually end up finding the important lost piece of paper is on my paper stand (anchored there with a bulldog) but covered with another paper/book I am using. I must remember to check there first next time!

Oh no. It's a very small branch so it gives him people to chat to as he keeps us all waiting. Also that way he can make out he's very busy and justify being open for whichever hours he chooses to be open. I always phone first before I drive down to make sure he is open.

Hi Cloud, I thought you'd be too organised to mislay things but we aren't responsible for fan swept papers. I often have a pile of papers nearby and will jot something down and then be unable to find it when needed, only to find my son decided he needed that bit of paper to write something down on. Little menace. finding one piece of paper in a vast pile is how the offices round here work. The man at the small local branch keeps the paying in books until he can take them to a larger branch and when you pop in to reclaim it he pulls out a huge pile of hundreds of books and has to open the cover of each one to find the name. It is ludicrous, he's never thought to file them in alphabetical order. I don't know if he's changed the system yet.

That's too funny! I was on my way to work one day and thought I forgot my phone. It wasn't in my pockets, in my bag, wasn't on the other seat, in the cubby hole in the car.....I usually wouldn't put it anywhere else. I had a few minutes, I could turn around and go back home to get it and decided that's what I was going to do. I turned around, jumped out of the car and here I was sitting on it!! I'm glad I didn't have anyone with me or I'd have been soooo embarrassed!!

LOL I often suffer from 'cantfinditus'. My kids are sufferers too, they stare into the cupboard looking for something without finding it and then I walk straight up and grab it out! When I used to work on cars for a living, my tools would always end up spread all over the place around me and quite often I would forget what I had out. Then I would be looking for something in my toolbox later and get angry because I thought that someone had borrowed it without asking! Although this did happen from time to time, mostly, the tool was in or under a car where I had left it.

Hi Bill, children seem to be incapable of finding anything without asking where they left it. Where is? gets replied to with 'where you left it'. The clothes cupboard though appears to present a mental block I 've noticed. So you've done the 'who's taken it' one too. Then looked a bit sheepish afterwards.

It is very funny to see others looking for something, particularly something that is on their head... I remember my OB was looking for her stethoscope where infact it was already hanging on her neck... Well that happened to me too, I was looking for my pen... I was really busy that time and I was holding this and that for my deadlines... then while reading the document I putted the pen between my ear head... Then when I was about to write something, I could not found it anymore... searched my desk and floor... I was really beginning to be irritated then I realized that it was on my ear....

Hi lovely, another example of the glasses on top of the head but the pen behind the ear instead. Pens always seem to go somewhere unexpected. I often jot things down whilst in bed, put the pen down then can't find it again. Now I just follow the trail of ink on the sheets.

Hi Thea, I am right with you with the misplacing of glasses while they are on top of my head. I sometimes wear contacts also, so think of this, because I am so used to having glasses on I will "look" for them for a moment before my brain kicks into gear and realize I have contacts in or I will push my imaginary glasses that are not on my face "up" (when they imaginary slide down my nose) and find nothing on my face. It is habit and so annoys me. I also wear a hearing aid, the real small ones that fit into the ear canal. Well, that is a doozy, because it has become so much a part of my ear that I don't "feel" it anymore. At night I am to take it out, unfortunately sometimes I will fall asleep with it in and in the morning I will look in the case and not see it there, panic and search the bed only to realize it is still in my ear. I have had the reverse. I need to take it out before showering and have thought that I did only to get in the shower and touch my ear to realize, "crapola, its still in my ear" dry my hands, pray I haven't drowned my only way to hear, and take it out hoping I don't drop it in the shower and toss it gently away from the tub in hopes it will stay dry. All things said, it is habit and getting so used to having these things become a part of me that makes me crazy thinking I have misplaced them. I completely fit the bill of "if my head wasn't attached to my shoulders, I'd misplace it" I guess I'll start really worrying if I start looking for my head one day thinking it wasn't there.

Good morning Lina, I hope you've recovered your senses by now, not got your hearing aid wet in the shower or discovered you slept in your contact lenses. The one I always forget to do is put my glasses in my bag when I'm going out, as I invariably need my sunglasses on for driving, but then if I go in a shop sometimes can't see anything if it isn't bright, and have no substitute. I tried a sundress on in those circumstances this summer and didn't think it looked good on but wasn't sure as I wanted it and I couldn't see properly. The lady in the shop kindly pointed out to me that I had it on back to front and that once reversed it was indeed worthy of its sale price. As I've just pointed out to Holly I never keep my underwear on my head.

Hi thea..I have been guilty of looking for my glasses, only to find them on my head. But most recently it was my scissors. Every year when I wrap presents I end up losing my scissors and every year I find them under the gift wrap. It continues to amaze me how I can lose things without moving from the spot I am using them in. I use to lose my tape the same way, until hubby bought me one of those nifty ones you wear on your hand.

Hi jewels, I have to say I've never lost the glasses on top of my head but know many people do. I take them off though and then can't remember where I put them and then can't see to find them. I've never heard of tape designed to specifically wear on the hand but it should stop it disappearing.

Hi royal52gens, what a strange place to find your car keys in the fridge. I always know where my car keys are, one is permanently in the ignition as if I take it out the car won't start, and the other is on the keyring in the front door, so if I lost the car key it wouldn't matter as I'd be locked in the house anyway. You could try a hook on your front door.

I have looked for my glasses that were atop my head, also a pencil behind my ear, and one time, though this is a little different, I actually almost wore a head towel to school! I, luckily remembered it was on my head before we left, and I had a hairbrush as I was apt to take one to school with me, so I was spared the embarrassment of going to my first class with a towel atop my head because for sure no one would let me know until it was too late! lol!

Oh please let me clarify, I didn't actually get to school before I realized it, I just know for sure if I had that I'd be laughed at. I think my hair was pretty much dry and the towel is so small, that I just forgot it was on there. It was also winter so I suppose it was warm on my head, lol! When I was in school, especially in winter I would tumble my clothes through the dryer so that everything was warm getting out of the shower, etc.

It is usually important papers and bills and I misplace thema t the 11th hour. The thing is I keep it SAFELY at the most unexpected but on your face place bu tat the time , I just cant find it!!! Oh yes, it was a great relief to get it back. I also got it repaired to get the proper shape of a bangle. Our maid found it out for me. She was blamig me for not keeping things carefully. Now as I retrack what had happeend, it was like I came from a late night wedding reception and fell to the sofa as soon as I got home. There I opened this bangle and soon igot a call. The phone was in my bedroom, I went to attend t and the rest is history hi hi
