Hi dear friends, Here in our place the weather is so bad. Even in noon time, the visibility is very poor because of fog. I really felt bad about the school kids who are starting from home at 7 AM – 7.30 they are suffering because of bad weather. Actually the school reopened yesterday only after the winter vacation. I think school should extend their holiday for some more days. You may agree that the bad weather is making us sick. When the weather is bad in your place how do you take care of your health. What kind of foods you prefer to eat in cold weather. Please share you thoughts, suggestions etc.

Hi Sree.. I know what is the current situation in delhi now.. recently saw few clippings in NEWS.. yes its very difficult for you people there and specially for kids who need to leave early for school.. In the winter I make sure to drink boiled water and also little warmer whenever I consume water.. and always make sure to have food hot.. with spices like jeera and pepper.. using raw ginger in salads also good.. and also having milk with pinch of termeric also helps us a lot to keep body warmer.. and as usual wearing sweaters and socks and keeping cotton in ears while going out..

Hi Chaitra, Thanks for coming quickly. The situation is very bad dear and I am much worried too. There are accidents going on due to bad weather. In personal front, I am affected much, especially with kids. (As you know that my younger is just recovered from pneumonia). Now both are on cold and elder is denying wearing proper dress (warm). He likes to wear jackets and keeping the button/zipper is open then what is the use? He is refusing to wear the cap (using in winter season). Today when he left for school nothing was visible outside. Most of the parents are not sending kids to school now. Hope the weather will be alright soon. Hope the weather is good at your end. Take care dear. Have a nice day.

Hi Sreekala, Just make sure that you keep yourself warm. Never ever put your self at risk of getting colds. just in case you have colds-- try to prevent it from getting serious to the point of having complications. Hot chocolate and tea will help.

Hi Sree...Yes every day I watch the weather reports in your place.....How people are suffering because of the extreme conditions and the flight and trains getting disrupted because of the fog...And it really is pathetic to see small kids going to school in this foul weather... Actually there was an all India science congress here last week and ther were many delgates from North India as well as school children...The poor things came here equipped with coats and sweaters and other winter gear. The poor things were in for a shock at the hot weather here, and many kids fainted due to the heat here......And the delegates were seen taking off their coats and heading for drinking water to keep of the heat........!!!

Hi Rose, Oh, it is really a pathetic situation. They must expect the same climate in our place too. Here the bad weather is going on and raining in morning adds the problem. I am on bad health too. My younger one just recovered from pneumonia so I am really tensed on him. Elder is also not well but going to school (his school is not closed). Here some private schools and government schools shut down due to bad weather. Thank you very much for the concern. Have a nice time.

Hiya Sreekala, Although the weather is still cold it has had it´s worst for now there will be another really cold spell soon I can bank on that one for sure but in the meantime I eat lot´s of lentils with as much vegetables as I can and a little chicken with it and a salad. Although the Tomatoes get the frost in them I usually put them in clean water and add a little hot water from the Kettle not from the Tap and a little sea salt and mix it in and leave it for as long as possible as it takes the chill off the tomatoes and softens the inside a bit. If the skin of the tomato is too hard through them growing them too quick I usually use the inside of the tomato in the Salad as a kind of dressing instead of throwing huge amounts of vinegar on which I don´t like anyway very much. I usually use cooking onions which are much better than the Salad onions at the moment too as they have gone too hard and are not very digestible. Usually have chick peas too at other times and white beans but they come out of jars much to my dismay because I prefer the ones you have to soak overnight but my family prefers the others at the moment. I´m saving for a really good pressure cooker and I mean it this time so I can do those chick peas and beans the right way. At the moment I wash the chick peas and beans that come in jars in a colander rinsing them through with cold water. Chick peas and White Beans make very good stews we call it potaje here they are really very nice with vegetables. I usually vary the vegetables too.

Hiya Sreekala, Sure enough Sreekala the cold weather is back again with a bang when it wants to snow it snows no matter how much they all complain here. All those vegetables mentioned above plus the red beans the proper ones watch out for being sold cat for rabbit as many red beans are not the proper ones. Most expensive red beans are the proper ones and they are called sunshine beans as they are adequate to beat the blues in this weather. Lentils the proper ones are very good for energy and keep you warmer in this weather I am cooking some right now. So even though today seems like one of those heavy energy days I make myself open a packet of lentils and in they go already cooking I am quite lazy sometimes (grin). You have a nice day too take care now.

Hi Sreekala, it is very disgusting for the bad weather. If the visibility is very poor, it is really annoy of driving a car as the risk lurks. The climate seems varied frequently this year, which results in a lot of victim as of the snow or fog weather. We should pay high attention on it, particularly if we need to go for travelling or special in the job related to the climate. In cold weather, I prefer to have the soup to ensure the energy is enough to run. My hands, feet are very easier to cold in the cold weather, then I will soak my feet in hot water and sometimes I will add some drops of vinegar on it. I realized it is a good way to preserve the health. It will be much easier to fall asleep with the night that I soaked my feet.

Hi sasalove, In winter if there is poor visibility then driving is very difficult. Here already many accidents happened and a train accident was the biggest one due to fog. There was no visibility for continuous 3-4 days even in day time. The season was the worst after many years and I hope after the solar eclipse the weather may become pleasant. Take care in the cold weather. Thank you so much for sharing your views. Have a nice time.

My entire childhood has been spent in a place of high elevation where it pours round the year and very cold.It is Hatton near Nuwqraeliya in SriLanka.I am so conditioned to this climate that I eagerly await the rainy season and the winter here in Chennai which lasts for a week or too to the maximum.I just enjoy the cold weather to the max and in fact it is the heat, seat and dust that makes me sick.

Hi bala, If you are in my place you just love to enjoy the season, isn't it. I know but I am not used with this weather that is the problem. It is bad luck you are staying in such a place where there is no winter, I guess, even if the winter is there, there will be cool in the morning and night only. So you can't enjoy much. Have a nice time.

I have only taken aspirin. The only side effect is when I tak too many in a week I get jitterly like I do when I have too much caffeine. We had a huge storm back before christmas and we Still have mounds of un melted snow. These days it is real cold and last wek it was windy too. Today isnt too bad. There is no wind and the sun is out.

I used to go outdoors anyway and walk. Now that I'm older and with arthritis, not so much. When I lived hear the Mall, I used to drive to the Mall and walk around. When I had no work, I would walk no matter what the weather to collect bottles and cans to get 5 cents each so I would have some money. Most people here, have their kids stay after school and engage in sports to stay fit. Many people join health clubs or adult swim clubs to stay in shape. Right now, I watch fit tv and exercise with the people on tv. I like soups, hot chocolate, broth, etc. This is a challenge because of the salt in all that stuff. Baking anything is good, helps make me feel warm. If you have a bike, you can make it stationary, then ride it while watching a travel channel or a travel video on the internet.

hello sreekala... yeah i agree with you that bad weather sometimes makes us sick...having cold weather is just fine with me, but what i don't like is the inconsistent weather like what we are having sometimes. sometimes, its very cold in the morning then it will be too hot in the early afternoon and then raining on late afternoon or the other way round! huh! that's the kind of weather that i really hate and really makes us sick! but with all these condition the only things that i do to take care of our health is to strengthen our immune system by eating the right foods, like lots of fruits & veggies that are rich in vitamin c to be particular and we also take some vitamins... and also we protect ourselves from being exposed to rain, cold and too much heat from the sun... and with your question on what kind of food we prefer to eat on cold weathers...well of of course i prefer soupy dishes to keep us warm...

We have been having bad weather here to. Lots of snow has been falling. Sometimes the kids don't have school because of the bad weather here. It gets very cold out at times. I try to keep my daughter dressed very warm before she goes out to school so she don't get cold. People have been getting sick and getting the flu due to this weather. I try to make a lot of soups because of the bad weather. Hot tea and hot coco to stay warm. I like to make home made chicken noodle soup and vegetable soup.

Yes, I really agree that cold weather and changing temps can make weaken us and make us sick. And is there anything that chills one as much as fog, don't really know, but for me it chills me to the bone! I start taking Vitamin C and making sure my family does too. We also take Cold Eeze when we first start to get a cold since the Zinc in it helps stop the infection from getting a strong hold. It really does work! Shortens the time one has a cold and they are not as bad. And no I don't work for them or know anyone who does. The other thing I do is make sure that we layer our clothes so that we can be comfy with the changes. And I make stews with lots of veggies!

We live in the South of the USA so snow isn't much of an issue but the cold sure is. Our weather is wild this year, was under 30 degrees on Thursday and in the 70 degree range today. I think that is why some folks get sick so much here, our bodies don't know what to do with all the temperature changes! Vitamins do make a big difference and Orange Juice is a great source for most of us. Hope you are staying healthy too!!

As for the weather there is nothing like bad weather here which affects the transportation of school children or office goers. Actually I like the cold climate. What I cannnot bear is the scorching heat here. I think people can work however cold it is because there are various types of costumes available to tackle with the cold. But for the heat, it will be extremely difficult for those who work in open spaces under the scorching sun.Maybe I am wrong because I haven't experienced the cold the Delhiites experience.Anyway, I prefer cold to hot climate.

Hi cosmo, I agree we can't tolerate the hot too if it is high. Here in Delhi the climate is extreme in summer and winter so we are facing both and we know the advantages and disadvantages. Winter is far better than summer but when there is thick fog and too cold it will affect badly for kids as their school is starting at 8 am here. Now sun is visible and giving some warm too in day time. It will be difficult when the day is like night then it affects badly many people. You are not wrong because we are facing the hot sun and know well how it affect us. In summer and may ask the question, where are those cool days?

Lots of homemade chicken soup, thats my suggestion. Remember that in winter the body do not use too many calories, so you should not eat heavy meals. Plus chicken soup is good for the soul and for cleansing the body, it helps with nasal congestions and also makes you feel cozy and relaxed. Try it when you and the kids get home in the evening, you'll sleep like a baby.
