NY State doesn't seem to be able to keep up with its own paperwork. The bureau-

crats have created more taxes, fees, etc. But they also let a lot of people go. So who is processing the paperwork? Apparently not enough people for processing it. We had a company in Peru, NY that hires aides for people with Traumatic Brain Injury. They were required to submit paperwork in a timely fashion to continue operating as a service provider. They did. They received notification that the paperwork was received and being processed. Then, a little later, they received notification that their paperwork needed to be in by the end of December. So they called the state capitol and someone there told them that they didn't have to worry because the first notice that they were processing the forms indicated that they were working on it. The beginning of last week, they were served notice that their could no longer operate. This created 39 laid off employees and many people with TBI without assistance. Some, their families scrambled to find ways to help them and others had to be hospitalized to receive care. 25 employees were picked up by another agency, but that agency has a strick training policy and it would be 2 weeks before they could put those people back in the jobs they were already doing. Then the next day, we see, in the same newspaper that our county health department has granted them some kind of extention. I'm very happy for the people with TBI and the people who assist them. This is the same state that wanted us all to have new license plates. If they can't process the paperwork that is already in existance, what in the world were they going to do with new paperwork? They're having trouble paying people unemployment, teaching salaries, etc.; where were they going to come up with money to make new license plates? Can you imagine the mess that would create? People would have to drive to work illegally or call-in sick. Millions more forms being done by the same number of people? The Governor said he will not go through with the license plates being changed if the state can come up with money some other way. Let's hope they can. Meanwhile, my friends who own a business are waiting for paperwork that must be here by Thursday or they will have to shut their business down. I brought them both papers and told them to call on Monday and start asking around as to what recourses they have. What a soap opera living here is getting to be. I had to wait days to get my sub pay during New Years (they only pay us every 2 weeks as it is),and I was seriously wondering if I was going to get paid at all. I should have been paid on Thursday before New Years and the money wasn't there until the following Monday. Meanwhile, the people I owed money to still wanted to be paid on Thursday. So how are things going where you live? Is paperwork getting processed? Are people getting paid? Any ideas who my friends can contact for help? This is getting insane.

And the president is saying he is going to cut workers for awhile. That otta help! NOT!! And if the ones working now don't know what they are doing it is really going to be a mess.

Since a lot of these fees are just to line the state coffers (and the Gov. pretty much said that), why not just look over the papers, make sure the answers make sense, stamp approved on them and send them back? I could process hundreds of applications for permits that way. If not approved, put a star by something and check off the problem on a form and send it back with the paperwork. I don't know why they're so backed up that everything sent by deadlines can't get back by deadlines. If they need more people, rehire the ones they laid off. Of course that defeats the purpose of the extra money. Some stuff like the sample permit, if they have passed inspection to make jams and jellies from the Health Department, just stamp the dang thing and send it back. The state just wants the money.

I guess I thought you lived somewhere else, not New York I think I was under the impression you were in Ohio. I think our paperwork is going through okay. I have not heard anything to the contrary. At least some states still are functioning.

I have not been listening well enough to the news. Our state is slow making some payments for our teachers, but I do not believe it is their paycheck. It may be retirement or benefit things. Fourth month in a row. It is a small state.

Ours is barely (bearly?)functioning. They want things sent to them at a snap-to-it pace and they get things back at a turtle or snail crawl. They used to either get things back on time or provide an extention until they could get the paperwork done. Now it's all crazy. I normally get paid before holidays, but the Thursday before Jan. 1st, no money, the Saturday after, no money. The following Monday, they put the money in the bank. Meanwhile, they had an article about how they were waiting for money to pay some things and it would not be there until the end of January. So you can imagine the fit I was having. It was such a relief to see that money the following Monday.

I think "Paper trails" that lead to nowhere are a glitch in the "buracracy" no matter where you live, be it New York, or British Columbia! Our B.C. Med "paperwork" (all of our personal information, including medical)was shunted out of province, to a Company in Texas (when so many experienced people are out of work in B.C.)and that Company is MORE than two years behind...and has experienced a "troll" in their system! NOW...all of our private/personal information is totally insecure! This is just one small example of our "paper trails" here going awry! Sorry I cannot answer your questions, but mine are along the same vein! Cheers!

They're addimg more paperwork and more taxes or licenses here and they could loose paperwork before. I had a job I was supposed to be hired for in NY back in 1985. I was interviewed in Sept. They sent the paperwork at the end of the interviews. I was supposed to be hired in Oct. The beginning of Oct. At the beginning of Nov., I called my future boss. He called the capitol and they didn't have my paperwork, so he faxed it and said, "Look, she turned down other work over a month ago for this job. I want an answer by the end of the day." I was hired mid-Nov. Now, my friends have to fill out paperwork they never had to before. One gives out free jams and jelly samples. She has to file for a "Sampling Permit." $35. Another friend has to renew her collection of taxes certificate. That was a one-time thing and now, it isn't. They want it to be yearly. They're the ones that might have to close down. But the scariest is by far yours. Personal information and 2 years behind. I hope NY doesn't get to be 2 years behind, we'll have to go to VT and Canada to do business because everyone will be shut down at this rate.

LOL!!! There must be guidelines for "Idiocrity" in place for all governments, Municipal, State (Provincial for us)....and Federal! NO matter what the "powers to be" implement...it is always "the cart before the Horse." Sounds like NY has taken a page from the book of B.C. Make them have permits....charge them for the permits...but lose, or fail to issue...BUT collect that money! Our medical records are so out of date, people that have already had an operation....are being called up to have that operation AGAIN! Thanks, Texas! I think the biggest blunder our Provincial gov't. made tho, was a few years ago, implementing a law, that all boat's heads (bathroom holding tanks) would be sealed and could only be pumped out at recognized "pump-out stations".....HUGE fine, if seal broken. Guess what....on the entire coastline of B.C......ONE...yes, ONE pump out station. U.S. Boaters stayed away in droves! After losing BILLIONS of dollars, reems...and reems of paperwork....THE LAW WAS DROPPED! aHA...our government at work! I hear you...loud and clear! Cheers!
