It is the anticipation and working towards goal that is far more exciting...

I feel that When you actually do reach your goal ,most of the times there is a feeling of anti climax within you. It may be because, by the time you reach your detination , the anticipation level comes down and also you may already be aware of the fact that you are going to make it...There are a few who loose interest midway and give up because they feel the amount of work involved is far too much and the end result may not really be worthy of all that hard work. But generally when you start working towards something your excitement and anticipation level is at its peak and at that point of time , you are ready to do anything and put in any amount of work to see it through . But as time passes, If the process is prolonged , sometimes you just want to finish your job regardless of what the end result may be... What do you all think of this friends?

Hi Kiran, I think it varies with the types of work/assignments etc. Sometimes we feel great when finishing the works or much relieved on completion of certain projects. I just remembered about one of the international seminar by our organization, there was much hard work and finally the three-day seminar ended I felt much relieved at the same time tired too. There was some follow up works but we could finish it very easily.

Hi Sreekala,Yes there are some jobs that give us immense satisfaction .I think the most rewarding job for any individual is bringing up their children and gardening lol...they are both similar, you have to nurture your kids as well as the plants

Hmmm...nice expression, a means to another end !I guess if it is interesting and worthwhile then the excitement remains...but otherwise one can never say

If the goal is an end in itself (ahhhh, I've made it) it is easy to feel a slowdown after you make it there. If you see it as a journey to something else... a means to another end... you get an excitement that stays with you. We are always in the process of becoming something better/ different.

Hi dawnald, I am the same- I feel extremely anxious and stressed while I am working on something and if things turn out as expected it is great, if not then I just move on...

Well it depends on what kind of activity we take up Kiran! If it is professional, my eagerness lasts because I somehow keep anticipating a next piece of assignment or some kind of work[be it students or whatever].When it is a preparation for an event or some travel or some wedding preparation, this vague feeling of anticlimax does arise. It is more the preparation that is more exciting than the real outcome.nding When it is a holiday like atrip to the chill mountains I wish that it is neverending

Hi kala, Yes what you say is true.I remember once we planned a long holiday and everybody was excited about it , but somehow things started going wrong and finally we were all waiting to come back home.I dont mean it can that way every time, but I have noticed that the anticipation is far more exciting than the outcome...recently we went for a lovely holiday in chikmaglur and it was perfect in every respect, the anticipation and the outcome were both memorable !

Hi kiran, I think when our expectation is too high we may fell in a feeling of anti climax. Our expectation should within the limit to our capability. The Hindu sacred book Geeta says like this:'do your duty(Karma) without thinking of it's result'. I think if we remember this we will not become desponded .

Hi bhanu, that is a wise suggestion.I think it is always better not to expect too many things in life...I have always liked the Gita simply for its wisdom and truth about life and living. But all said and done we are still human with all the human emotions including anticipation and expectation

Hi Professor, I agree that if the work is something related to your interest then there is continued interest. But i have noticed that it is very few people who are able to sustain the same level of interest in their work...There are a few ofcourse who continue to take interest in anything they do right until the end...
