Would you rather fly on a plane, go on a coach or catch a train?

If you were going to travel from London to Athens on a free trip which form of transport would you choose to take? If you fly on a plane you could be there is three and a half days. If you choose to go by train or coach it would take up to a week. Would you choose to do any stopovers en-route? Like you might be able to do stopovers in Paris or Brussels, Florence or Rome, Salzburg or Vienna and Budapest or Prague.

I would like to take a train. in fact train is my favorite transportation. Although the airplane is fast but I worry about the safety. The president of Poland was killed in a plane crash a couple days ago. It made me more worring about flight.
So if I can I prefer to choose a train for not long trip. Also I can see more on the road and save some money. So why not try it.
I wish I can travel to the continetal countries one day this year. I travelled a few places in the England so far.

Ideally, while we're imagining here, I would not go by plane because I would want to see everything up close and personal. But that would depend. If I only had one week, I would need to do the plane. Stopovers would depend on how much time and money I had. If I only had money for the end of the trip and food on the train, then I would not be able to do much for stopovers if any. SO ideally, if I had all kinds of money and time, I'd stop everywhere and go for it!

Well, if the travel time is for 10 to 15 hours or lesser, I would prefer a train. One can see so much of the countryside and lots more. However, for greater distance, I prefer a flight. Of course, for local travel, I prefer Metro Train, or buses.

lol you say it is a free trip, means food etc should be free, plus there must be free accomodation in star hotels, i would prefer to go by train, but the return journey will be by flight only, will prefer one with maximum stoppages..
Thanks for sharing.
God bless you.
Cheers.

It all depends on who you are going to be with. If you are coming alone, I personally would take the plane. If I was coming with a loved one I would take the train. :)

If I had the time I would take the train. I would love to see all of those places that you mention and I would definately make a lot of stops. A friend of ours took the train like that through Europe and he loved it. I hope to be able to do that some day. I am thinking that will be a gift for my husband and myself when our youngest child graduates from high school. But that will not be for another 12 years.
Maybe if we come in to some money the whole family can go on such a trip. How we would come up with such money I have no idea.

I would choose to go by train. Of course it would be a lot faster to fly from London the Athens, but if I choose to fly I don't get the chance to see any other places, and I would love to see as much as possible. I think it could be nice to do a stopover in Vienna or Salzburg or maybe somewhere in Switzerland. I really like Rome, Paris, Budapest and Prague, but I have already been there, so I would choose to go somewhere where I had never been before. I would also like to visit other places in Greece before I got to Athens.
