I admit, I come on here and try to be funny.
Oh, I've started a few serious discussions, especially when I need another opinion.
On the whole, however, I try to be amusing.
I tell stories I think will amuse people.
I try to respond in an amusing way, if I can.
Yes, I've been serious, some discussions you respond to you have to be, so I do try to respond appropriately.
Still, most of my discussions I try to make amusing so that people can feel "safe" to respond however they feel like.
I have gotten some responses that are just... odd. Still, I can only reply when I get a response.
So, what do you start discussions like? Are you trying to be amusing like I do or are you a "serious" person who only wants "serious" discussions? (if you are one of those, just tell me if you don't like a light-hearted response from me, I won't respond like that anymore... probably not respond at all, actually...)
So, what are YOU?

I am new member and I know that for members with experience,I am annoying(sometimes:))
I love to laugh ,I am not selfish or jealous(exception is that now, I can not put emoticons like others:))
I read all answers for my topic,I can not respond to every topic
The reason is simple : serious and sensitive subjects are for the soul.
But I know that ...nobody can be liked by all people and I resign myself:))

I don't think most new members are annoying.
I think the spamming new members who hit you with 20-50 one line discussions are annoying.
the fact is that members that do that don't stay members long, either they learn the error of their ways or they get kicked out
so, I don't find your response annoying, cip116, I think you have given a thought out response and soon, if not already, you'll be emoticoning with the best of us!
If you want to know the truth, for the first 2 years I was here they had NO emoticons! so, you are lucky you can do it as soon a you will be able to!

This discussion's too serious for me, man... I've only had one chocolate chip cookie so far this morning.

Well, actually, I just finished a bag of those. They weren't bad.
Unfortunately, now I have to go for a fasting glucose blood test, so can't have either kind right now.

I would like to be amusing to others but that's not easy for me and my efforts usually backfire. So I mostly stick to creating serious discussions. In the past, on other boards, my attempts at humor have been misunderstood so I stick to what I truly feel. I think the talent to entertain others is a gift and I appreciate it in others but unfortunately don't have it myself!

a good number of my stories are refined from years of telling them
if a line didn't get at least a nod, I dropped it; if it wasn't an entertaining story, it didn't get told
I do have 50 years of life to mine, so I think I have a few more stories in me to find and tell....

As you say some discussions require a serious response in order to be appropriate but I would say that in general I like to take a more light hearted approach. I won’t say that I purposely try to be funny but I do enjoy a bit of a laugh. If I ever make people laugh it’s usually not intentional! I always enjoy your responses ellie!

I am just average, I guess. I like to find out about people, so I ask them about their experiences. I cringe back when I think a topic might initiate a war, or earn me a tongue lashing. Generally the group of friends that I have are respectful even when we disagree. I try to be informative, but I enjoy light hearted discussions. Don't change a thing for me, Elic, I like your posts just fine.

I'm glad you feel comfortable with my discussions!
I agree, you sometimes need to respond in an appropriate way, and if you don't feel you need to be serious with me, great!

[b]I like both. Nothing gives me a bigger kick than to get laughter as a response (frustrated comedienne...
, here...), but I get just as big a thrill when I can perk someone's interest with some interesting tidbit of news--just as you do with all the info you post re things such as archeological digs' findings--or when I've made a point in a debate that opens up a mind.
So, do your worst--I always enjoy your posts!

I think it's good that you try to be amusing. It helps to laugh, especially when you're depressed. Laughter is the best medicine. I try to be funny sometimes but some people just don't laugh. I guess I just have a dry sense of humor. My daddy was like that and I'm a lot like he was. I guess most of the discussions I start are serious but I don't mind you responding in a light-hearted way. It would help me feel better.

If I can see a funny side to something, and the discussion allows it, I try to go for the lighter side.
HOWEVER, there are those discussions, and people, that just don't get it and its best to be serious with them.
And then there are discussions that need to be serious, even when the person isn't normally, because that's still what they need at the moment.
I would never tell someone that lost a pet or job or family member that it'll get better, they KNOW that, but they don't need to hear it right then. there are right ways and wrong ways to respond to people

I tend to be sarcastic. I am usually not serious, but I know it is hard sometimes to tell if a response is light-hearted or not just from reading it. It is sometimes better if you are talking to the person and can hear the tone of voice that things are in.
Some discussions you have to respond in a serious manner. Others, you can try to be amusing. Before I respond I usually try to read the other responses. It helps sometimes to see what type of a discussion it is and I have chuckled at quite a few of the responses.@ElicBxn (64169)

I have been known to be sarcastic, but I find a lot of sarcasm to be cruel, and that's one of the things I've never wanted to be.
I agree, that in writing its harder to tell how things should be taken, because you don't have the verbal cues.
I hope nobody is taking this one too seriously!

I want to be very amusing too but only with my close friends that I usually hang out with. I make them laugh all the time and the can't fart their laugh at home. Well, for the people I do not know, I dont care and I hate talking to strangers. They irritate me so I frown, and still they do not sense how annoyed I am. That's how big problem I am of a serious child LOL

well thats cool! Im a good joker in a way of being fun quick and clever.
they say something and i say something very clever very quickly to them and they laugh. Must be they have not realized or learned it on them. I mean not laugh as if though I gave them an aweful answer. They laugh because I was kinda joking and I get very deep and funniest meanings of their thoughts.

i like to be un-amusing. i like to be mundane. my house is brown and my room is dark. my eyebrows sag. when i wake up every morning i go through the same routine of self-scratching & self-nagging. my breakfast is bland. and my computer is basic. any surprises may give me a tummy-ache. i don't own a tv because all the flashing colors are too exciting for me. the highlight of my day is when i get to use emoticons on myLot
hehe..sorry, i couldn't resist myself

Tch! That - was a wonderful gift! You should be gracious and accept such gifts Mario! Imagine what that rat could've done! Pee in your breakfast, eat away computer wires, not to mention papers including your checks, and while you went chasing it, may be you'd have broken a bone or two! How can you refuse such a valuable gift! Some people are simply not smart enough to realize the value of their cats. :(

i do know that it's a gift, and i'd appreciate it if he finds & kills one around my own house. but i know for a fact that the little fella has been hunting in the recycling center down the road. we've had so many talks about this, JD and i (that's my cat's name). and he always looks like he understands, and gives me his paw as if promising me to only hunt around the house...
if he goes rummaging around those dustbins again, there may not be anymore catnip for him for a week..
he'll see how he likes being sober from now on..

Me? I try to be honest. I try to respond in a way that is appropriate. If it's a serious discussion, I might answer in a serious way or I might try and inject some humour to lighten the atmosphere. If people are upset, I try to make them feel better by offering support.
I try to be amusing every chance I get but it seems to fall flat and I think maybe people just don't get me. Sometimes I have to explain myself and that's a downer
I would like to be able to share jokes on here...I can't understand why we can't. I think the site needs more humour.

Hi ElicBxn! I can be serious or amusing. I can be quiet or talkative. I'm really flexible for the most part. As for my friends, I wish for them to be who they are and not what they aren't. So, that said, be yourself and I'll be myself and we'll all be happy or we won't. It's as simple as that!

Hi ElicBxn, On the whole I do try to keep discussions lighthearted and post amusing ones, like you every now and again there is a serious one because of life stuff happening. I also answer a vast range from sad, informative to funny. Huggles. Huggles. Ellie :D
PS: Still give my huggles though whatever the discussion and if someone is ill will end with healing huggles instead.

Sometimes i'm serious but not that serious. There are times when i feel goofy and respond a little off from the topic but i don't go way off of it. It depends on my mood.
