I have recently come home from my trip to Canada. I went there with my disabled son and baby daughter. For our first few nights we stayed with a friend in West Vancouver. It was easy to get to her apartment because there was an elevator. Then we stayed on a university campus at the university on Vancouver Island. It was challenging tom find our way to the bus stop avoiding all the steps. We had a suite with a kitchen so it was easy to prepare our food. I had to push my children in their buggy into the entrance. Then I needed to carry my baby daughter up the staircase. I left her in our suite whilst I carried my disabled toddler son upstairs. Next I left him in the suite so I could go back down the stairs to get the buggy. The place we stayed in Victoria was perfect. It was a spacious room with two double beds. It was on the ground floor. Next we went to Powell River on the mainland. We stayed in a backpackers hostel that is also guest house. It was up a massive hill and had some challenging few steps to go up. On our next trip I will take less baggage and make sure our accommodation is always on the ground floor.
What sort of places do you like to stay
Backpacker hostels?
Guest houses?
Private homes?
Motels?
Three star hotels?
Luxury hotels?
Have you ever stayed in unusual accommodation?

HI Max,
When I travel top considerations are always clean toilet, ample water, good location (is it easy to get public transport coz I don't want to rent cars, they're expensive), and food must be accessible (either fastfood nearby or a restaurant inside the hotel/hostel). It doesn't matter whether it's a hotel, hostel or a guest house, for as long as the ones I mentioned are present.
Glad you had a great time in Canada. And you're such a great mom to your kids

Good to hear about your vacation. I hope I could do the same with hubby and the kids within this year. It's been a while since the last time we had our out of town. It was last year in December. We're both busy with our work and have not taken a Vacation Leave. I'm also currently pregnant and will give birth this August.
Whenever we go out of town we both prefer to stay in a pension house- somewhere private. It feels like a home and then it's not in any way near any business establishments. Aside from that they have private service. The pension house would usually have a cook, maid, guard, etc. It still feels like we are just at home.
If we can't find a private house we can rent we prefer to stay in a hotel. The good thing about hotels is that it's convenient because all the service you need are provided.

We have a child in a wheelchair. We stay in motels mostly, if at all. We stop and ask for a handicap room or one on that is accessible for a wheelchair. Most are ok. If we are going somewhere that we plan, I call and check first.

Hi maxi~ I'm glad you had a nice time in Canada! I have been to
Canada about ten times and I absolutely love it! I have been
to Quebec, Old Quebec City, Toronto, Montreal, Thousand
Islands, but I don't think I went to Vancouver. I'm not sure
because on the trip to those Islands that was the first and
only time I was in that part of Canada I don't remember that
trip too well! I give you alot of credit for being such a loving
and patient Mom to make these trips that you do with too such
young children. I know that must be difficult, but I'm sure the
kids love it! The only place that I travel to anymore is to
Florida to visit my Mom and I stay at her house.

When I travel I usually stay at hostels, guest houses or hotels. When my ex-boyfriend and I were travelling together we often stayed at luxury hotels, because he didn't like hostels or guest houses. When my husband and I travel together we usually stay at hostels. I don't need a luxury hotel, and I think that a hostel or a guest house is fine. We don't intend to spend too much time at the hostel anyway, we are usually very active during the day and we visit many different places. A hostel is also a nice way to save some money, I prefer to travel a bit longer instead of spending the money on a luxery hotel
I have never stayed in a very usual kind of accomodation, but I would love to try something totally different if I get the chance, that could be interesting. My brother once stayed at a hotel at used to be a prison, there were still bars in front of the windows and locks on the doors...

Hi maximax, I admire your determination and positivity...I guess this is something that can keep people going no matter what...I too like unusual accommodations instead of the standard hotel rooms that can sometimes be boring...We have stayed in a youth hostel and a home accommodation in a village which was so bad that i would never do it again...I only look for clean, comfortable to place to stay ...all the best

Sadly I have not had a holiday for a couple of years (
) but I do love both hotels and apartments.
I like hotels for the fact that everything is done for you - cleaning, cooking etc but I do like the freedom staying in an apartment gives.
I think the nicest hotel I stayed in (after The Disneyland Hotel in Disneyland Paris - which was magic
) was a little hotel I stayed in in Prague -
we were so pleased when we pulled up at The Golden Wheel (AKA U Zlateho Kola) on the very quaint, cobbled Nerodova Street; it was a small hotel with just 17 rooms on five floors) but very traditional in design although it looked as if it had been recently (and lovingly) restored, it was really beautiful, we were so pleased that we had opted for one of the older hotels rather than the many modern ones we had passed on our taxi journey.
Our check in time was not until 2.00pm, but due to our early flight we arrived around 11.00am with the intention of leaving our luggage while we had a mooch around the city and got a little lunch, however the extremely helpful concierge gave us a coffee and a seat in the reception and told us that the room would be ready in 10 minutes, we were more than pleased!!
As we drank our coffee we read a leaflet about the hotel and it seems that it dated from the 14th century but that the original building was burnt down in the 1500’s – leaving just the original walls and a well. It was rebuilt as a house in the 17th century by a local painter and in 2003 it was completely restored and made into the hotel it is today – but the well still does survive. When we finally got to our room we were completely taken aback, it was stunning; on the fifth floor we had our own roof side terrace with an INCREDIBLE view of the castle, there was a large double bed and a very comfortable sofa, a separate dressing room and a beautifully designed bathroom decorated in classy black and white, the ceiling of our room had Baroque styled paintings within the panels. The large well decorated and furnished room included a mini bar, Cable TV, free Wi Fi connection, air conditioning and was absolutely spotless.
I’d only just arrived and didn’t want to leave – ever!!
With regards to apartments my most memorable was the one I stayed in in Kalami in Corfu, I had gone to Corfu after wanting to for years after reading My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell, so imagine my delight when the apartment we were staying in was part of the Durrell house right on the beach looking out onto the Albanian coastline.
I want to go back now!!!!
