People Around The World Outraged By Woman Who Dumped A Cat In Garbage Bin

I'm almost surprised this story hasn't shown up here at MyLot...did a search and it seems no one has. The big buzz going on Facebook for the past few days is of a 45 year old woman, named Mary Bale in Coventry, England being caught gently petting Lola, a four year old tabby cat, then grabbing it by the scruff of the neck opening a nearby green garbage bin and dumping the cat in it and closing the lid then walking away, where the cat wasn't discovered by her owner for about 15 hours. Her actions were all caught on tape, which is the tape circulating like wildfire over at Facebook. For awhile no one knew who this woman was but thanks to her being caught on tape was later identified. Here's an excerpt from one article which includes that now famous video: She was questioned by RSPCA animal protection officers, but police said they could not make an arrest because tossing a cat into a dumpster is not considered a crime. A spokesperson for RSPCA said they are “appalled” by the abuse and called it “a mindless act of animal cruelty.” Officials will continue to examine the case and may ultimately charge the woman with animal cruelty because of the suffering Lola likely experienced. Source of article http://www.care2.com/causes/animal-welfare/blog/uk-woman-who-dumped-cat-in-trash-identified/ When interviewed, Mary Bale couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about as her attitude was that "it was only a cat" People worldwide are so outraged by Mary Bale's cruel act, that she's been getting death threats and is under police protection. What I can't understand WHY charges aren't being slapped on her...THIS WAS ANIMAL CRUELTY! That cat, Lola was stuck in that bin for 15 hours, and what if the garbage was collected while Lola was still inside? Here's another article about her and the "incident" http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1305751/Cat-bin-woman-Mary-Bale-Whats-fuss-Its-just-cat.html One of the other main problems is that Lola's owners aren't even pressing charges...sorry but if anyone did that to a pet of mine, I'd slap every charge going for animal abuse and cruelty and maybe shove her in a bin for 15 hours. Are you as outraged as I am about this? Don't you think this Mary Bale should be charged with animal cruelty? Oh and BTW---here's a funny video made called "Revenge of the Cat" in response to Mary Bale's actions http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYyI51a463E

oh my G pye thats horrible, what a monster, to pet it then just toss it like garbage into the dumpster then close the lid, I had not heard about this. what is wrong with those police, thats animal cruelty and it could have suffocated in that hot stinky place. poor lola. I would think the laws would have something about animal cruelty in the police part of it.I also am appalled that the police office did not just arrest her,if she had done this to a child would they say there are no laws against tossing a child into a dump;ster of course not, they would arrest the person at once. Animals are precious. I am as outraged as you Pye and would love to see someone really dump Mary Bale into a dumpster, shut the lid and let the garbage truck pick her up and toss her around. lol. I am being cruel but that was a thoughtless really cruel thing to do.If that had been my pet cat i would have sued her and got her charged for whatever I could find to charge her with,.

I know, if she had done that to a child the police would have arrested her in a flash. Did you see that Youtube video "Revenge of the Cat" link I have here...think it's what we all would like to see happen :-)

I wonder what charges would stick. I mean I totally believe it is animal cruelty, but maybe the owners have been warned nothing will come of it. In my head I'm trying to come up with real reasons why the owners would not press charges. Because like you, I would be all over this if someone had done that to my pet. I mean even if it caused waves in my complex and I was actually the one getting threatening calls - I would raise heck.

I can't understand why Lola's owners don't press charges either, unless they're not good pet owners themselves. The mere fact they let Lola roam around kind of shows they're not very responsible themselves

Actually at least one other MyLotter had a discussion about this, but you put more details in yours. She also was outraged. I cannot imagine what anyone would be thinking, and as the friend yesterday said--"She should be hung upside down in a wheely bin herself and see how she likes it." People are all too often cruel to animals and people alike. I do not know how they can live with them selves.

I would totally press charges. I can imagine any of my babies stuck in a garbage can for 15 hours. How mean. She should be shut up in a garbage can for 15 hours and see how she likes it. People are so mean, cruel and stupid. I can believe the things some people do.

Or, if nothing else, a jail cell for 15 hours....or 15 days. Some sort of punishment, yeah.

A stinky jail cell. Can you imagine what a garbage can smells like to a cat? And what it hot, did kitty get dehydrated? I know she was hungry. So I say coop that lady up somewhere, hot, stinky with no food, water or bathroom for 15 hours. Its only fair.

"just a cat"-- God how I hate phrases like that! Thought it would wriggle out? Did it as a joke. Jokes usually include several people. The woman's mother saying she loves cats is idiotic. And using her father's accident? as a reason for such bizarre behavior is just down right stupid. Obviously she doesn't care at all and cares nothing about anyone but herself. What a demented, horrific sense of humor. I certainly hope those people in that town come to their senses and do something.

I actually saw this on the news today but i thought it was here in portugal. I wasnt paying attention because i was in a restaurant and could here what was going on. I was like Is this lady insane. Aparently she is. This woman is insane to think it would be funny. They need to press charges against her so that other who attempt to do the same thing have a warning and they will know that they will have a chance of going to jail or something like that. Poor cat, i am not a cat lover but i would never put a cat in the trash can for fun. She is going to be a target for a while, that guy was lucky that there was a camera there to identify the woman. CHARGES TO MARY BALE!!!! She must be punished!! HAve a nice day/night.

I think that they make these threats to pressure the authorities to charge her with something. They know if they let her go without punishment them someone will do something to her. And i believe they will.

How can a person who claims to be human harm a cat? Let's just stick with that. Hopefully there'll be charges made against her.

Hey pye~ I don't understand why the owners are not pressing charges either! It was extremely upsetting for me to watch her throw their cat in the bin so why wasn't it for them? I would want to kill her as so many others would! "It's just a cat", she said? WTF? Let me have just a few seconds with this woman and I'll show her! I think she needs to be very afraid for what she did! It was animal cruelty and the owners are absolutely stupid if they don't press charges! It makes me sick to think what that poor cat went through!

My sister told me about the video; I think she may have seen it on Facebook because she is very active there. I was outraged when I saw this of course and I cannot fathom what could have possibly be going through this woman’s head because until now she apparently gave no signs that she could be cruel to any animal. The bizarre thing is that she stopped and patted the cat before dumping it! Yes she should be charged and if it was my cat I would not let the matter go. No one should be allowed to get away with something like this. What a weird nutcase!

Hiya pye, Very cruel act too. Just a Cat. A Cat that lives and breathes has feelings, senses just a Cat. I read that on Yahoo.co.uk and I wondered why she did it but if that is the only answer she can come up with well. Here I have seen in the Vets when I used to go and buy Bird Seed from there a very tiny Alsation Puppy with it´s Paws badly burned and thrown into a Rubbish Bin on Wheels too. It moved me to tears. Luckily the Puppy survived and went to better owners but it was in a state of shock. Then when they did no one could have got fined but now they can thank goodness.

Charges would be a bit much in my opinion. I think the constant media ridicule is embarrassing and punishable enough. Shame on her thought for dumping it in the trash. I mean would stink up everything in site. Had she been a caring individual and could not afford to properly dispose of it she should have buried it.

Wow I hadn't heard about this. Stuff like this makes me sick, whether it is a cat, dog, or any other animal it shouldn't be treated like that. I hate that people get away with this stuff without being charged. If that was my cat that women would've been more than sued. I would've put her in a garbage can for 15 hours to see how she liked it. Animals are the biggest deal in my life. My dogs and my cats are treated like children and taken care of. Like I said before people like this make me sick and I think harsh actions need to be taken.

Hi there Pye, I don't understand why they don't feel that putting a cat in a garbage bin would not fall under animal cruelty even if there is no specific law stating that it is illegal to put a cat in a garbage bin! It is cruel...simple. Did she ever say her reason for putting the cat in the trash? I just can't imagine but if it were my cat then I would definitely be pressing some charges. Keep us posted on this Pye. Hopefully they don't feel the need to put another law on the books. This should simply fall under animal cruelty.

Actually I saw at least one discussion on the subject yesterday. Yeah, what an idiot. Toss her in a bin!!!
26 Aug 10
Hi pye, Yes, there is one member who had made that discussion and I have been responding to her. This case has been all over the internet and I am just too stunned that the British Police would not charge her, why??? is it because its only a cat? would they charge someone if they put a baby in the bin? as far as I'm concern the cat is someones furbaby and yes I am surprised the cat owner didn't press charges, too soft I'd say, I hope the RSPCA will charge and rightly so, I know what I would do if I live near her, so angry. Bright Blessings Tamara

Yes I am as outraged as you are! How dare she say that it's "just a cat"! I just hate it when some people don't have respect for animal rights and just treat animals like they're worthless! Animals are living creatures too, and although they don't have as much intelligence as humans they still have the rights to be respected. And I for myself believe that they also do have feelings! And so what if it's "just a cat"? Does it mean that she can just throw it in the dumpster like that like it's some kind of trash? I mean, Mary Bale, what did the cat ever do to you??? You obviously need to see a shrink, woman!! If that happened to my cat I'd definitely press charges except that in my country, I'm not so sure if animal rights are well observed, I don't know where to go to =( Well at least (in UK) the officials are looking into the case. I really do hope that they'd give Lola justice. Poor kitty! I can only imagine how scared she was while trapped inside that garbage bin! Thank God the garbage wasn't collected while she was inside! OMG, I don't even wanna imagine if it were! :( And who knows how many cats she'd done this to?? Lola's lucky coz the whole thing was caught on tape. But what if she has done similar cruelty to other cats but just got away with it!?? :( I really hope that more and more people will start treating cats (and other innocent animals for that matter) with respect! I mean, how a person treats animals really reflects what kind of a person he/she is. Coz if he/she can treat small/low creatures rightfully then I'm sure he/she can also do the same to humans!
