Pets and moving

Are you the type of person who has to find a place where pets are allowed if you have pets, or do you just find what is in your budget and either give the pets to your family to keep, to a friend, a neighnor, let them out or take them to the pound? I know there are some people who are pet lovers and would do anything to keep their pets, but then there are some who could care less. Which category do you fall into? My husband and I were at a restaraunt with a friend the other day when we saw two places for rent and it said "No Pets". My husband and I do not personally have pets, but we have a friend we're talking to about moving in with who does. He's fine with keeping them where they are now because they'll be taken care of... But well that's just what brought the questions above up.

I would never give up my Pet ever they will come with me or I do not go I am also fed up with People getting worse of not allowing a Pet, they could say a month trial and if the Pet is not under control then get rid But it is always NO PETS and it is starting to aggravate me But no either Gissi comes with me or I do not go

I would not want to do the month trial thing because it would be money wasted if the pets weren't allowed, I would definitely want to take them with us if not give them to family to take care for us. Of course I imagine we'd have to stay atleast six months to a year in the place depending on the rental agreement.

I'd do everything to keep my pets, i'd scout all around to find the right place where it's all right to have pets. But if in case I could not find the apartment and it also will be detrimental to my job like the distance to the work place, how many minutes or hours do I have to commute back and forth if I keep them and rent a place where I could keep them, then I would find a home for them. Families or friends who would really love them and take good care of them. And if by chance my situation gets better I would like to have them back if that would be okay with my friend.

It is true we have to think of the distance to travel to and from work as well, and so this can cause it to be even harder to find a place where pets are allowed. My husband and I are looking for a place to rent in six months to a years time if not longer with friends, and atleast three of us have pets. Luckily we can keep them at home with our families as they are family pets.

We have been in the same apartment for nearly ten years. If we had to move again and had animals we would probably have someone take them until we got moved and then figure it out. We have only the outdoor cat now so we would have someone nearby watch for him and be sure he is fed. We had to get rid of our other cats. Had about a dozen and we bot in trouble with the housing.

I would be afraid going that route would mean hubby and I would have a place to live but no place for the pets. Luckily we have family pets so even if we go they stay, though I am sure if we asked they'd let us take one of the animals, but it'd be cruel to the other one who would miss him. I am sure a lot of people already feed your little out door kitty as it seems a lot of people like to feed strays thinking they've not been fed. Months ago we fed a little chihuahua that acted as if it hadn't been fed in days, the owners of the dog were neighbors or we would have taken it ourselves.

I love my pets and I would never give them up. My husband and I live in a house that we have rented and we are allowed to keep pets here. Before we found this place we looked at a lot of places and there is no doubt that it would have been so much easier to find a place to live if we didn't have any pets, but we would never give them up, they are a part of our family We have talked about moving to another part of the country in the future, and it is really hard to find a place that where we are allowed to have a dog, a cat, 6 rabbits and a guinea pig. If pets are allowed there is often a rule saying: One cat OR one dog, and I couldn't make a decision like that

My husband and I are looking at houses as we may be moving in with friends, not in the near future most likely but in six months to a year times as a goal. In any case, a lot of them say No pets or some say small pets only. We don't have to bring our pets as they are family pets and so not solely ours (they are his parents pets as well). However, if we did have pets of our own we would leave them here with his parents if we absolutely had to because we know they'd be taken care of, but we'd also try to find a way to bring them with us.

I remember prior to my husband and I buying the house we had that problem. At the time we had three cats and not many people wanted to rent to us. One place we looked at would allow dogs and birds, but not cats. We felt discriminated against because cats are quieter than birds. I would never move into a place that did not accept pets. I remember my mom telling me that when my brother and I were younger they had a hard time finding apartments that allowed kids. One place her and my dad looked at would allow my parents to move in with one child, but the other child would have to move elsewhere. My mom said how can you expect my husband and I to choose between my daughter and my son.

They would allow birds but not cats? Cats are quieter then birds any day. In any case, that and the fact when your parents were looking for a place they were trying to say only one child, what in the world, who would ever think to even THINK that? My husband and I are looking at places to move into in six months to a years time with friends of ours, and all of us (well atleast three of us that I know of) have pets. We can keep them at our current places because all of us still live with family, my husband and I with his parents, and our friends with theirs.

I am currently looking to move and looking to rent, i found the most perfect little apartment home and it was the best price that i could find, i was so excited to have found it and then they said no dogs....not no pets, just no dogs...i was so mad i have a little 10 lbs chipin who is like my other child...i could not believe they would not allow dogs but welcome cats. Now im not an expert but i was told by a professional carpet cleaner that there was no way possible to remove cat urine from a carpet....yet they dont allow a 10 lbs dog who is trained to be almost human....rediculous

That is ridiculous, and I am not sure if cat urine is harder if not impossible to get out but I am willing to bet it is. We have two chihuahua's that like to pee and poo everywhere and some of the pee has proven not to want to come out. We have a cat as well, but she throws up more then poops or pees anywhere.

I have pets, would never give them up, no matter what the situation was. Where I am, it's illegal for landlords to have a no pets clause in the lease. You can simply move in, and they can't evict you based on that fact. However, if someone is allergic to them or can prove that they are destructive, that's another story. I'm glad that where I'm moving, the landlord is fine with all of our animals. He was a bit wary at first, but once we told him more about them, he warmed up to the idea of allowing all of them in. I would never give up the pets, I consider them family, like my children.

Oh really so where you live it's illegal for landlords to say no unless there's a way to prove allergies or destructiveness from the animal itself? That's a very good thing to hear that means more animals are allowed in, but does that also mean the pet deposit is higher, or is there no pet deposit because of the clause? I am glad you were able to move all your animals with you.

Where I go, my pet goes. I'd search forever if I had to, but if I had to move, it would be with my dog. If they didn't take pets, they wouldn't be taking me.

The pets are family, and they come with me, period. I'd have to be absolutely destitute to give them up over where we can afford to live.

Glad to know people are compassionate about animals. I love animals too, luckily our animals are the family animals so even if my husband and I move the animals will stay here. The last time we moved we missed the animals, and they seemed to miss us too.

I used to look for apartments that were willing to take a cat. I now live in a house that i dont rent and havent had to loook for a new place in about 6 years. If i was looking for a place however i would be looking for soomewhere most definitly that would allow me to keep my dogs. I'd have a very hard time giving them up. I am however not the kind of person that takes my dog shopping or out with me to resturants. I dont think they belong there.

We have a freehold home, with a mortgage, and no pets right now. But if we have pets, they come with us, or we don't move.

I like that attitude in people. On another note I had to look up with freehold home meant!

I won't move somewhere if they won't accept my pets. They are part of my family and I love them all dearly. I would never give them away because I couldn't take them with me when I moved. I mean would you give your kid away if you didn't want to take them with you? That is how I look at it anyways, my pets are my kids.

I can definitely understand that. A lot of people consider their pets to be their children as well. I am just glad so many people here on mylot refuse to let go of their animals for the fact that they can't find a place which allow pets. I've seen a lot of places are either No pets or negotiable.
