Did someone purposely cut our cable lines or was it an accident unintentionally?

The cable guy came by last month to take a look at our cable. Well, apparently our phone and cable was not working at all. We just got Vonage as our new phone services. And, me and my husband was really trying to figure out why the cable and the phone was not on. I had to use my cell phone to make calls that I needed to make. My husband also let me use his cell phone. He has the plan of unlimited minutes while mines is just prepaid. The cable guy took a look at the line outside. He came back in my apartment and told me that my cable line was cut. I asked him a bunch of questions because I have never seen a cable line cut before. He told me that this was not an accident. Someone cut our cable line on purpose. I was trying to make all of the excuses about how it could have been cut. But he assured me, that it was not cut by accident. I told my husband about it, and he thought that it was an accident too. I believe that if he was here on that day, the cable guy would have shown him exactly what he is talking about. The cable guy looked at all of the lines, and the line that ran to our apartment was cut. Now this is very strange? Is it possible that someone knows exactly whose line to cut and whose line not to cut? This is why we was not getting any Internet and phone service at home. The cable guy said that there is nothing that can be done about it. He told me that if it happens again, all we can do is call them, and they will come and replace the cable line for free. You mean to tell me that someone can just get away with cutting peoples cable lines and not have to be punished for what they have done? That is silly, so silly! Now, if this was done on purpose, I am wondering whom is responsible for cutting our cable lines. The cable guy knows how to do his job. He knows when something has been tampered with vs if it was cut and pulled by accident.

I used to work for a company that mapped the lines for power and cable and all such lines. They were the ones you are supposed to call when you were going to be building in a certain area so you didn't cut lines. I would wager there are no building going on in the area. I would still report this to the authorities. They may have instances of it happening in the area to others. Do you think that guy would do something like this? I doubt it but.......?? I would report it.

Hi, celticeagle. I had the same thought as you have had too. I wondered if the guy downstairs knew anything about this or if he did cut the cable line himself. I will never know who did it. Guys stand around almost all day outside of this apartment building that we live in. Most of the guys that stand around this building, don't even live in this building at all. So since they are always outside, surely someone had to have seen something. It is really weird because I just don't know who could have done it. It was very mean. I don't talk or bother anyone out here. I stay to myself.

That is probably smart of you. I would contact the authorities and they could tell you if there have been others cut in the area or if they have gotten other complaints. Maybe it is just someone who is jealous that you have cable. People can be so mean and idiotic.

Good thinking! That is a good idea. I plan to move from out of here by this month. If it happens again, while I am here, then I will make sure that I say something about it. When he first told me about it, I asked him if there is anything that can be done about it, and he told me no. I was ready to start reporting.. I know that this was no accident. I will never believe for a second that it was. If the cable guy knew what he was talking about, then I have no choice but to believe him. I don't really deal with many people that I live out here. I will speak and keep on going. These people that live out here don't hardly speak to me. They act as if they are carrying a chip on their shoulder about me. I don't know what is their problem, and I am not going to lose my hair just trying to figure out why. If you ask me, I think they don't like the fact that I am living out here. They may think that I am too "clean" for this type of area. Well they thought wrong! I am people just like they are. The only difference with me is that, I tend to my own business, I am very mature. I don't smoke nor do I drink. I don't hang out a lot like they do either. I take care of what is mines and I don't be running in and out of others homes. If that is what they are mad at, then they sure will more angrier when I am gone for good!

It sounds to me that someone has cut that line on purpose, sweetie. I know you get really low people, but this is just absurd. When did you say you were moving? Get your foot on that one and make it snappy. Just get out of that place, okay. TATA.

Cutting cable lines seems to happen frequently. It happened to me just last month before I moved. It was a line I didn't use as we didn't have cable anyways, but you could clearly tell that someone had cut it deliberately. The line ran from the box up to our bedroom, but luckily the main line was left alone. That was the line being used for internet. There was also 2 more lines that were left alone, one went into another bedroom, and the third one went to someone else's apartment. I know where I am now it wont happen as it's a good area to be in. Sorry it happened to you.

it probably was.some people like to do stuff like that just to be jerks. they don't even have to know you. if it happens again,i would call the cops first.then you have a report to present to the cable company so they definately don't charge for it.

That is awful this happened to you. That would make me so upset. I would think if it would happen again, there should be a camera installed or something like that to ensure the perpetrator is caught. I am sure a cable worker would not be so quick to tell you this unless he was absolutely certain it had been cut.

Hi. aurorastorm. You are right. As a cable service technician he knows his job well. And if he did not know what a cable line looked like being cut, then he would have never said anything to me. It was just someone mean that did it. It was no accident. I tried to tell myself this over and over again. There is just no telling who could have done this or when. So many people stand outside and it is so hard for me to know who is the guilty party. I am tired of living out here. Moving somewhere else would be just the thing that me and my family needs about right now. The only person that I have had a problem with is the guy that lives downstairs. I don't know if he could be the one or not who cut our cable line. No other neighbors has ever been inside of our apartment. Just only the manager and the maintenance guy.

hmm maybe its a guy who doesnt like you and your husband but i guess someones just playing a joke on you two :/ yes i too have experienced that here in our place we have a cable line for the TV so we could watch more channels than the usual local, well while watching T.v one night everything got blurred on the t.v and we thought that maybe there is a maintenance or something so we just left it like that for the night then when the next day came it was still blurred and we cant watch any channel at all so my dad tried to check everything from the t.v to the cable then he saw that our line was cut and my dad thinks someone cut it by using a plier and the end where the cable is coming from is missing so we called the company and they said there were people who was stealing our connection (duh) and they said theyre going to fix it :D then after 3 days we got the cable back and were good now :D we didnt bother to know who did it ...

Incidentally I could just recall - the same thing happened to me few years ago.. The cable was cut and it was replaced and then again it was cut. I repeatedly filed complaint. And each time the staff would come and repair. Finally, they gave up. And I had to move higher authority direct. They probed into the matter only to find out a nexus - a gang - who theft cable lines. Finally it was resolved and by that time I lost every hope of getting back my Internet connection again. I hope things like that is not your case. May just some casual works.. may be mischief done by someone, nothing so serious. I can only hope and pray to God for you.

More often than not, it is an accident because sometimes those cable lines aren't as secure as the cable company thought, or sometimes they just break. In my city, and in other cities, people turning to FIOS and underground cables because the above wire ones are outdated. My city is slowly, but surely moving towards underground cables.

I am sorry that happened to you. Hopefully someone just hit it by accident. I don't know why someone would cut it on purpose. Hopefully it will not happen again. I thought cable lines were hid better than that. Perhaps if the get cut again then you will know it is on purpose and possibly he can move them to another location.

Thats just awful, I don't know why there are people out there like that, who want to ruin other people's things, I guess just to be mean, it don't make any sense tho, it may just be some young kids doing it, thinking they are being funny or whatever. Have none of your neighbors had anything done to them? I hope you find out who did it, and they be punished for it. Thats just awful and mean...

I think it might be some thief that might want to go into your house and before he went in to your house, he 1st cut off your phone line so that if anything you all cannot call out for help using that phone line. This is normally what I seen in movie... Who knows someone might imitate what people do in the movie? This might also happen because someone or your neighbor just like to sabotage your family and trying to get you all problem. Many people who have minor criminal mind will do that to you. Just recall back have you ever argue with someone or is it it is done by your downstairs neighbor that always knocking the ceiling to make you notice that you children are noisy. May be he trying to do something just to revenge to you. That just my wild guess, but may be it is true, all you need to do is to find out..
