Is God a male or female...?

India

In many religions God is worshiped as a male.In some religions He is abstract with no form. But in Hinduism God is worshiped as male by some people and as a female by some other people though they are all Hindus. If God is a male only How we could be His children. Then His creation. If it is only His creation Why as male only.He could be female also. All these thoughts are really baffling to me..I do not mean any insult or offence to any religion or person. I may be pardoned if I have failed to choose correct words to express my doubts. Can any one clear my doubts...

According to you God is neither male nor female and at the same time both. Then God must be only supernatural power or energy like electricity. In that case we have to worship electricity also which is only an invention by a human being, but God is creating human beings. As electricity is only energy and has no form similarly God must also be energy only without any form.Again a doubt comes that when electricity works through some form say machine or bulb God should also work through some form...male ? or female? ...

It's whatever you want God to be. Isn't it possible that God is neither male or female? Can't God be considered something other than a sexed being?

Ha'Shem is beyond our comprehension. He is neither male or female. Humans put human attributes on Him to try to describe Him in terms that they can understand, because our minds cannot handle the wonder of Him. He is our Father only in the sense that He created everthing including us. That does not make Him male or female or both. He is incomprehensible.... Hinduism and christianity are earthy religions. They need to be tangible. Judaism is an abstact religion...It does not need for Ha'Shem to be tangible to believe in Him. We do not need to see Him. We did not need a false son to come down and die for us to believe in Him. We do not need saints and idols to pray to. All we need is One Ha'Shem.

You say that God is neither male or female.Excuse me I have not heard of Ha'Shem.Kindly explain. According to you God is beyond our comprehension. Can He be unseen energy like electricity. He created us all including animals birds etc.Why there is so much difference in all creation?According you we need not see God...

Ha'Shem is "The Name" in Hebrew. It is a way of writing the name of the Almighty without actually writing It. Jews try not the write the name of the Almighty out except in a place where they know it will never be desecrated. They also try never to say His name except in prayer. We do not physically see Ha'Shem. We know that He is everywhere, because we see His creations all around us. He does not have to be male or female just because He created us male and female. What of the other planets in other Universes. Do you not suppose there is life elsewhere. Do you think that it is just like us? Maybe it is way different and they are not male and female....Interesting...

In Hinduism, there are number of Gods which includes Male and female both. We have Shiva, his wife Parvati, again Bajranjbali a male GOD. We will start Navratrs very soon which is special for DURGA MAA.

yes. For Hindus there are different forms of God..both male and female and even elephant faced Ganesh. But the underlying theory is that there is only one God.As you rightly said ..one who says there is one God...one believes in number of gods...one who says there is no God..and one who says I am God.{Ahum Bhahmosmi} all are considered as Hindus only.Am I right...?

God can't be male or female. In Christianity we can assume that God is a man when Jesus calls God His father. But those are mammal characteristics and God is not a mammal. He made us according his spiritual image and not his physical because he is not physical either. If He is not physical and not mammal why would he be described as male or female? Is mother nature a female?

Actually male and female are not specifically mammalian terms, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and higher plants amongst others are also male and female all the best urban

In the creation of God there are so many things like human beings, animals, birds, tress, fish etc.Why should God create so many varieties. Why not only specie. He has no beginning and and has no end, but all His creations have a beginning and an end .Therefore how can we, being temporary in nature, comprehend an infinite which is God.Therefore let us all enjoy the discussion with getting personally hurt.

in addition the two holy books says that he created man in his own image that in the begining he first created adam who was the first man, so for this reason i ca say he is male.

God is the creator of the entire universe including human being. He is beyond the imagination of human beings. Some view Him as male but Hindus view Him both as a male and female and worship and pray God. Whatever it may be it is enough if we believe in the existence of God and have faith in Him so that we can be properly guided by His Grace....

According to my religion and belief He is male and we see Him as male. It is hard to explain but i can share my own thoughts and belief with faith. He is God and infinite, He begins with nothing can explain, He is more than enough and no one can know Him above many things. Really He exist. Only i know He is He. By image as male. Religion and belief with faith of every one of us can hard to explain clearly...Thanks and have a nice day!

God is neither male nor female and above.God can be felt but cannot be seen by human beings.Just like electricity we can understand the existence of God but we cannot see Him through human eyes as we cannot see electricity. We should believe Him as we believe in electricity. As mortals how can we see immortal God...

I can understand your confusion, especially when there are many gods and as many religions. I am a Christian. In my faith God is a man. I base this on the scripture that says that he created man in His image. He created woman to be his helpmate. When I pray, I pray to my Father, who is heaven.

So you say as a Hindu that God is one and people worship Him in different forms..as mall and as a female. In many places we have no freedom of expression for various reasons.I hope this forum for discussion is a place where you can express your views without fear or favor and also frankly.Am I right or wrong..?

I think there wont be any god in the world , we have to consider our neighbors only as Gods

As you say there may not be any Gods in this word.Your view is not acceptable to many in this world because all religions advocate the existence of God.Only atheist say there is no God.Atheists my belong to any religion. That apart how do you say that only neighbors are God.This is anew theory and we have to know what others say about this theory...let us watch and wait...

I only say that God is a person. Person is defined as someone who is rational and able to think and do things. For me, God is male and despite you cannot see GOD, it is still believed by all that GOD is male. Though he made as human it doesn't mean that we are born in HIS womb.

well i don't think god to be either male or female. god if exists will be another state which we can't even imagine of. actually he is non reproductive according to my beliefs. he can create different species but can't reproduce itself to make his own variant and is immortal. and it is perfect

well when i was a kid i heard a story in which someone asked where is god and why can't we see it. then the responder asked him to fill a tub with water and asked him to bring handful of salt. then he said suppose this salt is god and this water is universe and then put salt in water and dissolved it and said "now the salt is everywhere in water, we cannot see it but we can taste it the same way god is everywhere but we can't see it".

I fear I may add to them. I see G-d as a Being who can take any form , male or female. He Knows He Better come down as a male to speak to me. If she came down as a female , we would fight . I would rip my faith into pieces in front of Her. For me ,everything makes more sense if He is male. But If He Is Female , A lot of things look like cruelty.

In the Christian faith, God is referred to as Our heavenly Father. However, He does have characteristics of both male and female. I think He is what one needs Him to be at any given moment. If we need God to be strong and protective, He is. If we need God to be gentle and nurturing, He is. He is the great I AM.

God is neither male nor female! The God Almighty possesses all the quality of being a God not of being man or the created. He is God so gender issue is not applicable to Him. In Genesis (Bible) God declared that man was created in His likeness. He is not talking about physical tributes (male or female body parts) bu referring to "righteousness and godliness (godly characters)". In this aspects men and women are not alike too. So I would say that masculinity and femininity are characters that God possesses, but not limited to these characters only, He is more than that. God bless us all!
