Have you ever had a biopsy? My dad is getting the results for his biopsy today. He isn't too worried. It's a biopsy on the prostate, so I guess if I were a man, I'd be worried. But he's got a lot of faith that everything will work out okay. I have had 3 biopsies in my life time - which is 29 years.
They were never looking for cancer with mine. One was on my liver, one was a muscle biopsy, and the other I'd rather not mention. Anyway, they all ended up telling the doctor something, but to me it didn't worry me because since I knew they weren't looking for cancer, I wasn't scared.
So many people on mylot have battled some form of cancer. How many of you (even those without cancer) have had biopsies?

I had a muscle biopsy done on my right calf muscle way back in 1978.Since 1970 i had been steadily losing strength in both my legs and had started limping. Thos had affected my mobility and i wasn`t able to run and had started experiencing difficulty in climbing stairs. I had got several tests done but nothing came as the doctors could not identify what the problem was. I had also started losing weight and this had alarmed me. Finally the Orthopaedic doctor whom i consuled suggested i take the biopsy. After the results came out i learnt that i had Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive neuromuscular disease in which the body muscles start wasting and do not regenerate. He advised me not to get married as it would cause trouble in my life later on.He also said that eventually i would come onto a wheelchair, which i am on now, but i would otherwise lead a normal life. Now i am disabled but mentally i am strong and cheerful.

Hi, AmbiePam. Hope all goes well with your Dad. I've only had one biopsy, and they did suspect cancer. But, fortunately, the results were negative. I remember not being scared at all. I guess I should have been, but I wasn't, and all turned out well. Anyway I'm here 30 years later...

I have had loads of biopsies. Too much sun as a kid about ruined my skin. Have had several surgeries for skin cancer but have been very fortunate it was carcenoma which is the easiest to cure. The cancers were removed and that was the end of it. Have stayed out of the sun as much as possible for the last several years.

I have had a biopsy and yes the waiting is hard. Many members of my family have to be concerned about skin cancer. Hope all is well.

I have had a biopsy, and it coincided with two different times of new, "up to date" state of the art machinery not work. I had to go back a second time, after trying for over four hours to get the sample the first time. Many men test positive for some type of prostate cancer, but it is a slow moving form of cancer and often the approach is just to watch it.The treatment is sometimes worse than the disease. I hope all is well with your dad.

I've had a biopsy done when I had an operation in 2006. I've had cysts on both ovaries and my doctor has the mass biopsied, and so far the mass has been benign. I've had another cyst removed from my left wrist just this June and the results are the same, it is benign. I come from a family who has a history of cancer, my mother is currently battling liver cancer now. So I am always able to breathe freely when my biopsy results come out benign.

Good morning, dearest Ambie! My blessings to your Father, with all good thoughts for a positively good result.
Early this summer a cyst was found on my ovary..and it was biopsied! I think the fear is there because there is a 50/50 chance that the result could be negative! My experience with biopies is that there are NEVER done unless something precarious is found, hence the fear! I should say, the biopsy was benign...but there were many days of apprehension before it was done...and the days after waiting for the results...put's one in a rather funky mood!
I will be getting a new computer this coming Saturday (am a Library now--public computer) so will have time to respond to all your discussions and PM you with where I am in life. DO SO miss your warmth/good spirits....HUGZ!

No I am blessed with good health, but I will pray for your dad, and I admire him for not worrying, he has enough to deal with right now..

I'm a year older than you.. and I don't think I've ever had a biopsy. I'm sure I'd remember if I did. I probably would not be too worried, even if they were looking for cancer. I'm just not much of a worrier when it comes to my own health. I've always been really healthy, never any major problems.. so I guess in a way I have that "It won't happen to me" attitude. I also know that sometimes cancer is curable, even though the cure is pretty much torture. A guy hubby used to work with had cancer and went through kemo (or is it chemo?) and now it's gone.

I don't do pain well, so I also pray not to die like an animal screaming in pain from cancer. I did have a colonoscopy a few months ago and two largish growths were removed. They went to the lab and they were cancer free, thank God. My last mammogram was a bit suspect but an ultrasound showed nothing, thank God again. I have cardiac problems but would prefer to die in a heart attack than die slowly with a cancer. But dear Lord, please, I do not want a stroke. I hope that your father is ok and will pray for him.
