I'm fond of eating and i'm fond of cooking as well. Although I know how to cook a little bit (only with those very basic and simple menus), I wanted to learn more about cooking. I'm planning to take up a short course on basic cooking next semester.. I would like to learn those recipes served during special occasions such as cordon bleu, chicken galantina, arroz valenciana, and other international and filipino recipes as welll.. How about you mylotters? Do you love cooking? Where or from whom did you learn the skill? What are your specialties?

Hi I learnt cooking from my friend who is really a very good cook. My specialties are spicy Indian chicken recipes. I am mentioning some below: I. Kolhapuri Dry Chicken: Ingredients: Chicken – 800 gm Ginger garlic paste – 2 Tbsp Lemon juice – 1 Tbsp Cooking oil – 4 Tbsp Fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped – 2 Tsp Salt to taste For masala: Dry red chilies, whole – 6 Green chilies – 2 Cumin seeds – 1 Tsp Peppercorns – 6 Cloves – 3 Cinnamon – 2 sticks Sesame seeds – 3 Tsp Green cardamom – 3 Coriander seeds – 2 Tsp Dry coconut, grated – 1 cup Garlic cloves – 8 Ginger – ½ inch Onion, medium sized, finely chopped – 2 Mustard seeds – 2 Tsp Turmeric powder – 1 Tsp Method of preparation: 1. Roast all the spices one by one. Roast the coconut till golden brown. 2. Grind all the spices and coconut into paste along with ginger and garlic. 3. Clean the chicken and marinate it with ginger-garlic paste, lemon juice, salt and half of the ground masala for upto 2 hours. 4. Pressure cook the chicken with three cups of water for about 8-10 minutes. 5. Once the pressure is released, leave to cook open till the remaining moisture dries up. 6. Heat oil in a pan and sauté onions till golden brown. 7. Add the masala paste and cook till the oil separates. 8. Add chicken and sauté till the spices mix well together. 9. Serve hot, garnished with chopped coriander leaves. Serves: 3-4 II.Spicy chicken curry Ingredients: 8 medium sized pieces (about 800 grams) of chicken 1 coconut(s) grated 4 onions chopped 1 teaspoon(s) red chilli powder ½ teaspoon(s) turmeric powder 2 teaspoon(s) hot spice mix (garam masala) powder 8 green chillies chopped 2 tablespoon(s) each of ginger and garlic pastes 2 tablespoon(s) oil salt to taste finely chopped coriander leaves for garnishing Method of preparation: 1.Grind half of the green chillies to a paste and mix it well with the ginger and garlic pastes. Make cuts on the chicken pieces, rub this mixture on to them well and marinate for about an hour at least. 2.Roast coconut shavings in a little hot oil till light brown. Cool and grind along with half the onions to a paste. 3.Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed pan and saute the onions on medium level for about 2 minutes or till they are light brown in color. 4.Add the remaining chopped green chillies, spice powders and fry for a few seconds. Add the marinated chicken pieces and fry on medium level for about 3 minutes or till they are lightly browned. 5.Add the paste, salt and mix well. Add water according to the desired level of consistency and bring to a boil. Cover and cook on low level for about 25 minute(s) or till the chicken pieces are tender and fully cooked. 6.Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves.

livvy I learned to cook at my mom'sknee as she taught me when i Wwas about ten and I had a lot of fun as we served the foods I learn hatred to cook . So i had an appreciative audience tp eat what I cooked.that really helped me to become a good cook. I loved to cook and it lasted all my life too. I still would love to cook if I had a chance.but alas I do not have a chance at all here at Gold Crest.

I've studied in a state college for a year in culinary arts; I have a certificate of this course. This is really what I wanted since I was a child; to cook and to have a grand kitchen. I love cooking but because I cannot afford the grand kitchen, well it's ok.

I have never really done much cooking when i was young. At places like school and college my meals were always made for me and at home my mother mainly always did the cooking. When i was at school i did learn to cook some things, this was part of a class but we never did have many of them. Other than this i really just picked things up with watching my mum cook and now watching chefs on television. I am a single parent so it is good that i know something about cooking and i do enjoy it. You can't really beat a home made meal, they taste so good.

Hi livvy! :) We share a common passion - food. :) I'm also fond of cooking and I've been taught how to cook since I was a kid. Because I was the eldest among 4 siblings, I have been told that I should know how to do at least most of the chores in the house and cooking. I started by just watching my mom, granny, aunts and uncle. Then I asked them if I can help chop the veggies and all the ingredients, after that they let me help in little task in cooking the dishes. :) After I've learned the traditional dishes (Filipino dishes particularly), I researched other dishes that I can try to cook. :) I believe if you love food then it's impossible for you not to learn how to cook. I don't really have any specialty dish tho I know a lot of the traditional dish in my home country. :) Good luck livvy on that short course that you're going to take. :) I hope you get to learn more dishes and widen your horizon of international cuisine. :)

Like you, I am fond of eating. However, I am not fond of cooking. The meals I cook are often edible by me, it is not meant for hosting. I pick up cooking skills trial and error when I was a child after observing how my mother cooks.

I learned to cook out of desperation. Really! My mother was NOT a good cook. The only seasonings she knew about or used were salt and pepper and she used them very sparingly. I was a terribly skinny kid growing up and I figured it was because of her cooking, which I often refused to eat. Once I was old enough, I began to experiment in the kitchen with different meals and learned all about the wonderful world of spices! I learned that beef liver does NOT have to taste awful. So, I learned to cook on my own from following recipes I found in cookbooks or those passed down from my grandmother. As for my specialty, I couldn't say. I make one dish called "Chicken Tahitian" that everyone seems to love. Actually, I just got my kitchen ready for some heavy-duty cooking sessions. With the holidays coming, I have a lot to cook. Thanksgiving is this Thursday and I always cook tons of food, since I am the matriarch of my family. Everyone expects me to cook a lot and I happily oblige. After that of course is Christmas. I always make candies, cookies, cakes and breads to give to my family and friends, plus I cook the main meal, including a turkey and ham. I love cooking these huge meals because it means I won't have to cook much for the next two weeks because of all the leftovers.

No one taught me. I just grab a cookbook or magazine recipe and go to town..I'll get creative and try different spices or substitute veggies etc. I don't have any specialties so to speak..I cook a little bit of everything.

I learned to cook from my grandmother. she was my mother's mother and unfortunately she is not with us any longer. At one time my grandmother lived with us. She was always in the kitchen cooking or baking something. She was a wonderful grandmother and a wonderful teacher to have.

why is it that grandmas are usually "experts" on anything? Hehehe.. Be it on child-rearing, housekeeping, and of course cooking good food!!! Loved my grandma for that too..We learned a lot from grandmas.

Hello friend, i learned how to cook from my mom, but i know some really good tips from my grand mother. First is that every dish needs spices and it won't be so tasty, if the is no salt and spices in when you cook it. My grand mother was really a great cooker and she was always cooking with love for the people, who will eat the dish. My grand mother and my mom never cooked because people was hungry. When they started to cook, they were spending a lot of time for cooking and cared a lot, during the cooking, so they were really great in doing that. Now my mom is making experiments with food all the time. Every time i cook something, i ask her on the phone, which spices are good for the dish, because you can't put everything in one dish. And using their example when i cook, i give everything needed for the dish, to be tasty. I know some people just put everything in and wait until the dish is ready. But i'm not that kind of cooker.

I did not really "learn" it as such, it's just that I watched my mother and grandmothers! I also inherited many of their old cookbooks, which I still use and I also liked to watch cooking programs on television. What is good these days is that one can find many good recipes on the Internet, as that is sure a good help! Happy cooking!!

I like to cook deserts more than home cooked meals as my wife does most of those. I do like to bake things though and cook the odd meal but it gets disappointing when it turns out bad or when my kids won't eat much of it so i end up throwing some of it away as i've spent time cooking or baking it. My wife likes to cook italian style meals so we end up with quite alot of those for our dinner and tea.

I'm not a great fan of cooking but there are days when I enjoy it too. I helped out in the kitchen when I was younger so I watched my parents cook. Other than that, I enjoy looking at cooking books and I would try them out myself.

I don't really like cooking, but daddy thought that every girl must know how to cook. I learn cooking and other house chores from him. He taught me to prepare simple menus and foods that my siblings love. I also plan to take short course in cooking or maybe bakery so that I can expand my skill.

I learn cooking from my mom. And I think it runs in the family. All of us are good cook. maybe it is in the blood or by experience. Since I always see me mom cook because she works in a restaurant I learn to cook theoretically. I know how to cook but I don't cook. It is only after I get married that I cook and all of the dishes that I cook is delicious. Adobo is my specialty and leche plan for desert.
