If People Are Really That Sick?

Then why do they at one minute complain about their aches and pains, but then the next minute these are the same ones heading off with buddies to go Fishing, to the Casino, etc? When in reality these are the same ones who are going to the Welfare offices needing help with Money, Food Stamps, etc. and then given the Free medical from the state and going to doctors getting tons of pain medications like Percoset, Morphine, Vicodin, etc. and eating them like Candy, or in turn probably selling these to their friends for excess $$ as well.
They also are the ones who get the Medical Marijuana and then brag to all of their friends telling them the price, etc. so they can hook their friends up without anyone getting in trouble for it as well.
Personally I know we need Medical coverage, and there are a lot of people who are on SSI, that need the coverage, but as a Tax payer, I am getting tired of people who abuse the system, do not care and never get caught. When the US goverment wants to cut out prescription help and funding for Medicare, and Social Security Disability of other Social Security benefits which people have worked to get, and leave Welfare and help for a lot of others undeserving, it makes me sick. As many know I am Disabled with having Diabetes and the Chronic wound not wanting to heal but they forced me to go back to work mostly because of being married, but in reality I am glad.
We rented out a room to someone actually feeling Sorry for them because he said he had severe medical issues, but now sometimes I wonder, and hoping in a lot of ways he really decides to move on by May 1st. He is like the person I described getting help and either taking the pain pills like kids do candy, or selling them, etc. I overall think there is better ways for our Tax dollars to better be spent.
Any thoughts? Opinions?

I recently went and applied for food stamps. Having spent most the day there you get pretty well aquanted with the fellow appliers. This one woman claiming she had 7 kids. By the days end was awarded $1,000. in food stamps. Im guessing she had all the birth proofs. But she told all of us in the waiting area that her kids were not actually with her but soon would be. I do not know if the worker knew that or not.
I know there are plenty of undeserving people out there. While riding the bus i always hear of people claiming to be disabled and collecting ssi because they cant or dont want to work. They make me sick because here iam struggling to make ends meet working. Being in so much pain and still im working. While they get paid for being lazy.

Yes, I have heard about and seen things like this myself, and it does make you wonder. Why is there not an easier solution? My Doctor is finally starting to believe me and wanting to help out more, but since I am married anything I try either ends up costing a lot of $$, or no one wants to help due to the income we make. It is so Sad that society is so twisted. If anything they should be willing to help out more those that help themselves.

Anymore it seems like they make it too easy for ways to find to cheat the system and not offer enough help to those who choose to want to be Honest. Personally I have always thought they are doing it all wrong, and should offer more help for those needing it who are trying to help themselves and make the others see a need to have to work for it somehow.

Yes. the whole system is twisted. Example the welfare system. Long ago mu sister told me that if you are trying to inprove your life like going to school they dont help as much as when you stay at home and do nothing. Making it harder for those who wish to improve their lives. The same was true still when my daughter was single trying to go to school while she had her first child. Also they help women who are single and they have livein bf's but if the childs father is in the home they dont help as much. So they also promote loose immorality. I also know that when you find a job and dont want asistance anymore that you cant just go and cancel the aid. You have to re-apply and be rejected. Thats so messed up.

There has been people abusing the system since the FS and other systems were created. There are always going to be those people that want to push the envelope and get whatever they can get for free. I knew a woman about thrity years ago now that kept having and admitted to having more kids just so she would get more money from the state. I was astounded when I heard through the grapevine of some of the stuff people pulled to make money from the Government. It just keeps getting worse because technology is becoming more advanced. It just changes, it doesn't stop!

It is Sad that people with real Medical issues just because they are Married cannot get any help from anywhere, and then if you are single, they tell you if you had children we could help you so it forces them to have a child. Why not hand out contraceptives or make them get their tubes tied?

Well, with my latest Medical issue I might really start calling around and see if there is any Help and suggestions for everything I am going thru. Sometimes it makes me wonder why do they make it so hard when you are Married without kids? But either way I guess if there is something it will be found?

They do hand out contraceptives at Planned Parenthood. The laws are really weird at times aren't they? For me I am usually just afew dollars above the amount where they can help you. It really gets agravating at times when you really need the help. But there are places, around here anyway, that will help you regardless of your income.

I think a lot of this is generational and it has gone on so long that many do not realize it is not a way of life. If I had the money back that I had paid into taxes, I could pay for things I need, but as it is, I do not. I probably would qualify for the free government phone, and for food stamps and maybe for medicaid, but I do not want the government in my business. We have so many people who believe it is only wrong to do these things if you get caught. I think the benefit of you working, Tina, is it keeps you moving a little more and it keeps your mental processes sharper. I would like to see us go back to being proud of what we do, and achieve, and feeling a need to become independent and support ourselves.

This is so True... There are a lot of people out there, like me and you, that should easily qualify for some of this help, but at the same time the government would also say maybe not due to us being married. But I do Celebrate and congratulate the ones out there who could be getting help and don't. They choose to hold down jobs, etc. just because they know it is a better way of life. Too bad everyone else can't leave it for those who really need it as well.

Hi!
I think, there are some who are not so seriously ill, however, even if they are half ill, they will make an issue of it so that others could come and ask -What happened to you. Their basic intention remains to seek others attention and for that they do not mind saying that they are ill.

That is the Truth. There are those out there who want everyone to feel Sorry for them even if they are not, just so others will want to reach out and help them never stopping to think of do they really need it?

I'm so there!
Maggiepie is disabled, granted, if she lost a couple of hundred pounds and had her knees replaced, she could be less disabled...
still, I think that there are LOADS of people who are cheating the system!
I wish there was a way to get them caught!

If there was a way for some of these people to get caught with having someone from the State, or whatever to really check out their background more as in a Credit Check, etc. and watch them on a daily basis and send them to real doctors to have them evaluated better they would be surprised at what they would really see, and how much $$ they would save. Just because someone owes $$ on their taxes, and Child support they never want to pay, they find someone to feel Sorry for them, and say they have a problem so they can hope others continue to want to help them as well.

There does need to be a revamping of the system that is for sure. But no matter what changes are made some of the people will learn how to abuse it too. I don't know how to make it better so I just don't complain. Plus I get housing assistance (not too much) and still a small amount of food stamps. My plan is by next year when it's time to redo that I will be totally off all of it. My son does get SSI since he was injured in the wreck over two years ago. That's actually what pays the rent!

Well, in cases of your Son I would hate for anything to happen to where he did not have that. But the problem is too many times the wrong people often get effected when cuts are made, and the people who are abusing the system never get caught, to where others always pay for it. Personally it is not Fair and wish their was an easier system all around.

It is sad that some people abuse the system and then people who really need assistance cannot get it. I wish there were stricter rules. I have a friend who is on SSI due to health issues, but cannot get food stamps. She has tried for a while, but has had no luck.

Have you notified the authorities on this guy? If you know of someone who is ripping off the system in anyway it's your duty to let the authorities know.
On the other hand, just from what people have said here and there in discussions...many people are on disability when they are quite capable of functioning like a healthy person.
I think a lot of people who have been ill continue to make out like they are still ill even though they are better. They have themselves in a routine where they don't have to go to work and the disability pension takes care of them. Who would give up such a lark if they didn't have to?
I've seen people on ssi comment about how they drive here and there, go shopping, go out to dinner,do numerous other things when they are supposed to be disabled. These people usually complain about how poor they are and yet they are working from home and making money on the side. Then there are the others who are genuinely incapacitated or ill and spend a lot of time in pain and misery.
I think the government should take each case on it's merits and do check-ups periodically. That should weed out the cheats and liars.
We have that happening a lot in my country too. It's quite shameful that the genuine ly needy people are cheated of their due by these liars and cheats.

One of the main things is it becomes hard for the Welfare system to ever catch on to people like him without them having a real Address to send mail to him too. You would think that would also stop them from wanting to help them, but I am seeing people needing places to live that are classified as homeless all the time anymore. It makes you wonder though how many times there are people like this out there, and what if anything will ever be done.

We have the same problem up here in Canada with people abusing the system. WE see them getting into taxis while we have to either walk or take the bus. Now I am talking about ordinary people who cannot afford to drive and live in a residence the same time, not about those who can afford cars and even those worked hard for their cars. And as for prescriptions and health insurance, I have Blue Cross, and I was supposed to receive a prescription card that I could get some of my prescriptions for free but they did not send me one. Anyhow I do not need to get prescriptions because I am a health nut, but had I, it would cost me a bit. Yet welfare cheats get free prescriptions, etc.
Decades ago, when I was between jobs and had not enough for unemployment insurance I had to jump through hopes to get enough welfare,(like you was not on it long, took jobs that I was overqualified for just to start working and not rely on handouts) yet these could get it and claim all sorts of worries. And I bet that someone like you would have just a hard of time getting help if something bad financaily happens. It seems in this case, honesty sucks.

Personally it makes no sense at all where people once they get married, if they have chronic Health issues, or need help with Food, etc. everything continues to be based on Income, never need. Even when it is something as bad as my wound that will not heal and having the Bills after my insurance going to collections instead of having someone out there that will offer to help. But if I was single and would sit at home and do nothing then everyone could help me? No wonder people out there do not care because they know if they are Single everyone will help them no matter their income or situation as long as they continue to not go out and work.

Personally I think instead of the government wanting to mess with Medical and Social Security benefits they need to deal more with the Welfare system, and food stamps and make sure that the people out there saying they are disabled, unable to work, homeless, needing help, etc. are really that, and not just trying to use the system. Somehow be able to do more of a check on them... Find out what they really have doing Credit, Background checks, bank account checks, etc.
Also making them go thru Doctors visits with Doctors who do the Testing for Social Security Disabled and then deem the real truth from there. Would save us Tax payers a lot of money for sure.

There is a lot of fraud going on in these federal programs. If they were put into the hands of the states I think there would be less fraud. Anything federal seems to get bogged down in red tape and incompetence, even though they begin with good intentions. Most state things do, too. I think we should privatize entitlement programs. It would save the feds and the state money and since a private company wants to protect its investment, it would be sure the clients met guidelines of eligibility and weren't defrauding the taxpayers.

Hi. KrauseHome. I agree with you!
There are so many people that are abusing the benefits that they have. They are also people that are wasting the taxpayer's dollars on nonsense and on things that are very harmful! It is just so sad! There are also people that are on government checks that don't need to be on it. They go into the Mental Health Center acting "nutty" like something is really wrong with them, when nothing is the matter with them. They do this just so that they can collect a free "crazy check" every month! How sad!
There are also people that are taking someone SSI check and using it to pay their own bills. And whatever is left after all of the bills is paid, then this amount goes to the person that is indeed receiving the SSI benefits. Not to mention the people that are selling just about all of their EBT Food Stamp benefits just to make a living. They won't even get a job and work, they would just rather sell their EBT benefits just to make ends meet. It is just so awful that people are misusing and abusing the little bit of priviledges that we all can have when we have it.

Yes it is so true there are way to many people who abuse the system! I wish the goverment would look into this more and get rid of those people who don't need assistence! The goverment never thinks about that! The first thing they do cut medicare and stuff like that for people who really need it! That is not the way to go! I know a few people who have tried to get the assistence they really need but have been denied! A friend of mine his mother-in-law got social society like 10 years before she was ready to retire! She says she is to much pair to work! My friend knows she doesn't want to work anymore and found a doctor that is a quack to get her on early social security! Abuse of the system is everywhere and the goverment is wearing blinds so they can ignore it! That really makes me angry!

Yes, it is really beginning to frustrate me the number of people getting help out there who really could be working. Then they continue to want to cut Social Security and Medicare to ones who have worked all their lives, or injured while working, etc. and continue to hand out to anyone else. It is discusting, and not Fair. If they could only really evaluate people more like they did when they removed me off of SSD less people would be getting help for sure.
But hey, if people like me with Diabetes, and Severe Chronic wounds not healing have to work, and enjoys doing it, and the extra $$, why can't most everyone else? It would sure save a lot of people $$.

It is sick. I know of someone who got a really big tax return and wasted the money by buying a big screen tv instead of uisng the money wisely to pay off bills and to get their heat turned back on. If I was behind in bills I would be paying them off first, then buy food and clothes for my kids then maybe splurge if there was any money left over. Once my check comes in I will be getting the deck redone (I was not planning on it, but if it does not get fixed soon it will completely collapse and I do not want anybody to get hurt). I know there are many people who abuse the system. I have seen people who use food stamps to buy soda, chips, cookies and candy instead of nutricious food.

Yes, too many people use their money from Tax Return, etc. on foolish things when they really should be using it for something else. In this case of the person I knew it was a lot of unhealthy food he was always eating as well. And then trying to get everyone to believe he had a problem with Chrones as well, while weighing over 350 pds. I think it was a ploy for a reason to be LAZY and use the system instead.

An ongoing issue friend that seems like some really take way too much advantage of. There are so many who are truly in need and cannot get the help they need, because perhaps there are way too many taking advantage of something they do not need.
I do know someone who is on medical assistance and strictly taking pain medication as if it were candy, over exaggerating his conditions to simply get the free pills. Shame they are not only hurting themselves but others who truly can use the help.

while these people do what is called gaming the system. they always seem to know how to get pain medications for the oddest
complaints while the rest of us have to toe the line and limit ourselves in order to gelt any mnedical help.it is simply unfair to me.

Well, I am one of the ones with a lot of Medical issues and it seems like it takes forever, even with working, and having Medical insurance thru my job to get anyone to really want to help me. All they want to do is refuse any types of medication, even when I am in dire pain, and just continue to pass me on to another doctor without wanting to give me anything to help as well. So I can seriously relate, and wonder when the system went backwards for sure.

Can see your point of view there. What a wastage of precious time for People who are really ill and cannot get that help.
Here we cannot get that kind of Medicine like that it´s very rationed and controlled and even more so now. They would not be able to get away with it here like that.

Would be nice if they could make it harder around here. When they want to take away from the Elderly who most of their lives worked to get what they have now, to give to people like this, it makes you wonder what ever went wrong. There are a lot of ways that the system could be made better before those who really need it have no hope and no help for them because of the government to allow people to continue to take advantage as well. Honestly I think if they really kept wanting to cut from Medicare, and Social Security which people worked for all of their lives, and went a case by case basis on everyone else they would be able to see where they flaw at, and who really needs the help. When so many are take take take instead of what if I really do not need it, it is sad.

Personally I just wish that the people who are like this would really have to find their places in life, and do without if that is what it takes to wake them up and realize just how bad they are really hurting themselves as well. I think too many times these are the ones who die early because they never had anything to show for their lives, and eventually everyone sees thru them that were their friends to not want to really be around them or support them anymore as well.

These people are the reason why the allotment for those people who are really in need decreases. They are the ones who would opt to deceive people just to get easy money and then just waste it regardless of how important it is for other people in need.

Yes, I can relate with this, and then most of them never realize that they are in the long run hurting those who really do need the help and will be part of the reason why they are wanting to cut any help for medicade in most states for sure. If there was only a better way for people to be monitored and checked we would save so much more $$ for those who really need it as well.
