Terrible news day...

Some days I wonder why I read the newspaper. First thing I see this morning is an article about the elderly and broken bones: http://www.sacbee.com/2011/04/14/3551823/surgical-advances-rehab-help-active.html Couldn't read it right away. That's basically how my mom died, bad fall, broken femur, two months of bed rest, boom, gone. Then I see this one about a mother who drove herself and her children into the Hudson river after an argument. Her 10 year old son got out, but she and the three little ones drowned: http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-mother-drowns-kids-20110414,0,221941.story?track=rss And to really cheer me up, I saw the one about the special education teacher on trial for molesting two boys: http://www.sacbee.com/2011/04/14/3551647/arraignment-accuses-sacramento.html There really has to be a special place in hell for people in authority who use their power to do things like this, but special education? That's taking advantage of kids with disabilities who may have a diminished ability to take care of themselves. Awful... Every had a day when you were sorry you had read the news?

Anytime I read or watch the news I regret it. There are too many horrible things in this world and it's depressing, and terrifying. I do my best to avoid it.. but then I come on here and someone else has to post it so I can't escape it!

Bad Dawn. Which reminds me, I wanted to make this part of the discussion and forgot. I was going to say that although it's depressing, it does make for a good discussion with the kids.

I don't discuss that sort of stuff with my kids.. I know how bad it affects me and how terrified I get when I hear these sorts of things, I wouldn't want them having those feelings so young.

The girls read the paper, so they are going to see it anyway. Better that we have a discussion, and anyway Dearra sees something like that, watch out, there's going to be a rant!

I always regret watching the news. And the media, particularly El Paso news, which we get, seems to be fixated on blood on the street after a car wreck, bullit holes in the side of a house after an apparent gang fight, more blood on the street and a helmet where a motorcyclist was run over by a semi, etc. I can't stand local news because of it, but then national/international news isn't much better. The media thinks we won't watch, read, etc. if they write about, show, good news. I'd be perfectly happy hearing good news for awhile, or at least ALL the news, good and bad.

So sad, The news can definitely bring your spirits down; I guess that is one reason why my pastor says not to watch the news, instead read the Bible and concentrate on the Lord. That's what I try and do...and when I see news about the children it becomes really hard to watch.

Hi. dawnald. I am sorry everyday that I read the news. The news is very depressing when it wants to be, which is everyday mostly! They mention the bad things first then they go onto to mention the good things last. It makes life so depressing when you hear about all of the bad things that has happened so far in life. I have heard about the mother drowning her three children into the Hudson River. I read so many comments on this issue. It is just so sad, so sad, dawnald! I have three children, and I have been through some stress in the past with their father, but I could never I mean, NEVER punish my kids and myself for something that their father has made me feel about. I don't care what it is! I have not heard about the other articles though. I am going to read through them all one more time. It is just a shame that the news is like the worst place to receive information from.

If you go up to one of the other responses on this page, you'll see a link to a site about happy news. I thought that was pretty cool.

THis is exactly why I don't read or watch the news that much. I can't stand to hear bad news about how mean people are or the idiocy of what people do to one another. People drowning, seniors being mistreated or their maladies, and those in control hurting young children. I really don't care to hear it! Makes me feel so helpless!

Personally I just think this continues to show how close we are to the last days with all the people doing such Stupid things, and crimes and never stopping to think of anyone but themselves. I know things might be hard Financially etc. for some people and Health care might be getting worse, but why do some of these things continue to happen and people just never really seem to notice or care? Things are getting Crazy and I think personally this is only the beginning. Does make you not want to watch and follow the news.

Sigh.....I know how you feel, I really hardly watch the news at all. I saw so many crimes against children from the sickest ones in the world that are allowed to live for some reason that I felt it was ripping out my heart. SO I just quite. Enough was enough. I figured if there was something important enough someone would let me know. It really can get into your spirit if you let it.

I rarely read the newspaper. I get most of my news from the internet. I heard and read the story of the woman who drove her minivan into the Hudson river with her 3 youngest children and her oldest got out after the minivan went int water. That really disturbing when you think she could of gottan help or someone got her help! I also hate the other stories! I don't know what the Hell is with people molesting children! They are some sick people!

The osteoporosis related article was heartening, especially since I am on the wrong side of 50's. :) And the article on molestation was sad. Actually just yesterday I came across an article that said one in every three of Indian children undergoes molestation... that is appalling. And the second highest number is in orphanages and other institutions. Cant trust anybody who does good these days, can we? And I perfectly agree with your views about that special education. Somebody is bribing somebody somewhere for some ulterior motive...

It's just awful when a person in authority uses their power for that sort of thing, and it's even worse when they're taking advantage of somebody who has reduced capacity to defend themself.

I listen to the news evey morning before going to work and every evening after work. I also read the paper daily. We really have some wack jobs out there. Where I live. A male nurse at a care center took advantage of an elderly woman who also had a diminished mind. He took her to his house for a weekend. I don't know how he managed that. I don't want to know either. Her family from out of town came to visit her. No grandma. The man was busted red-handed and then plead not guilty. The system failed this woman more than once. The man was sentences to 3 months in jail and his RN license suspended. Suspended not revoked. Best Wishes.

Local news always have killings and all the weird things you can imagine to happen. Here in our country tabloid newspapers contained most gruesome crimes I never could imagine happens. It is really a sad world we live in. Evil is everywhere. Sometimes you'll ask yourself what if this happened to you? but maybe we can just be thankful that we are still here surviving and doing fine dealing with the world's challenges:D

Well that's why i make it a point to be real careful when i read the news. I only read the side paper and not the main paper. If i have to hear any important news i would do so from my friends only. That's a good way to hear bad news! Cheers!
