What a week!

I haven't been around much, and there are various reasons. To start with, the roomie and I were fighting all the end of last week and over the weekend with the internet. Finally, in desperation, we pulled out the old wireless router and plugged in the one that we got as back up a month ago. Turns out the cats had dropped the old one once too often or something and it wasn't working properly. I actually could get on mylot, most of the time, but there were other places I couldn't get... Then, I had to start prep for a medical test today. I had to start on TUESDAY! That day I had to eat a low fiber diet and then the next two days clear liquid diet... Bad enough, but last night... Well, last night was time to clear out the pipes and I got an hour from about 11:30 to 12:30ish and then another hour and a half between 5 and 6:30. I can't say I spent the whole time on the pot, but since I had that first little "nap" I had trouble getting back to sleep. I had to be at the place at 8:30. Of course, that's just to start the paperwork, and it was nearly 9:30 before they started preping me. They plugged needles in, and knocked me out. About an hour later I am waking up. Don't really feel bad, but not quite normal either. The doc comes in, says my tubes are PERFECT (hey, pretty good for an old fart huh?) and unless I have something change, not to come back for 10 years! As I told my sister, it'll take that long before I start to forget this ordeal! The other roomie - the one who can drive - is the one who brought me home, and we stopped and got subs from a local sub shop since I haven't had anything more solid than jello in 2 days. I eat, and then go to bed. I slept from 1 until 4 and then rolled over and slept another hour and a bit. So, I've been kind of distracted from the 'lot. I can't promise I'll be back full time for a while, but I do check my mail, don't always open the notifications, but they are there... may delete some of the oldest ones - we'll see. I hope the rest of you guys have had a better Holy Week than I have, or Passover, or whatever it is you decide to celebrate. And tell me if you've ever had your plumbing examined... I want to sympathize!

Hi Elic, I've never had one of these done and didn't realize they put you out for it. Doesn't sound like much fun and I know my doctor wants me to have one. My mom had one years ago and that's how they found her cancer, but they didn't put her out back then. So you have to do this for 3 days? Wow, that's a long time, good grief! I'm glad to hear you're feeling better after such an ordeal and you're perfectly fine, nice to hear. Now you can eat and sleep all you want.

They have been after hubby for quite a while to do this. Medicare is supposed to pay for one. I took my sister to a clinic for one, and I think her prep was only twenty four hours. Hubby is scheduled in May. The prep here is gatorade, anything but red, and Miralax. He is on for a Monday after noon. Nothing but clear liquids after 9 am Sunday. Only a half gallon of prep on Monday morning.Procedure is to be at 1:00 pm. They will do a type of sedation that will allow him to be responsive, but not to remember anything. Kind of like what they did for my foot surgery.

well, I could've slept, if I could go to sleep, but I've always had problems sleeping at the best of times! They change things all the time, I wasn't totally out when I had it 7 years ago, so I'd guess you would have to see what they do at your endoscopy center, maybe "shop" to find one that does. I don't remember doing it 3 days last time, I think different docs like different ways, so I guess you could "shop" that too... I wasn't ever really HUNGRY, just wanted to chew on something!

Really good to hear from you. Sorry that you had to go through all of that. I have never had to go through that kind of thing yet but I am sure my time will come one day, hope to see you around again soon.

It was unpleasant, but at least I know I'm good on that end! Now, just need to get the pipes back to normal - whatever that is!

Good luck with that, Elic! It took mine a good month to get back to normal, although that could be due to the fact that I have IBS.

I would've been more worried about you, except that I was hearing from you in other places. I know you are having problems, you know, you might do better in a warmer, dryer place, too bad there ISN'T a place like that in England!

Dear Heart, you KNOW I can sympathize! Of course, I was completely out of it when they examined me, so at least I can't recall what that was like. It still boggles my mind that I was able to have a conversation, or so they tell me, while utterly unaware of it! Just as well; I'd probably have been embarrassed...! I guess it must have been 10 years for me, because I don't recall the long prep, either, however! From the sound of your ordeal, that's probably just as well, too! Anyhow, I'm thrilled your innards are fine. clink!

I've had only one colonoscopy, but it's about time for another opne. Not looking forward to it. I was not required to prepare for more than one day. This is the first time I've ever heard of it taking 3 days. Everyone that I 've discussed the procedure with has agreed that the preparation is worse than the procedu re. I'm not sure that I spelled the name of the procedure. Not only is it not in my dictionary, but spell-check is not picking up on my errors.

the last time, about 7 years ago, I don't remember doing 3 days either, 2 days, maybe, but I do remember the last evening was miserable! They told me, no driving, drinking or signing legal documents for 24 hours. Told them I had just signed all the legal documents I planned to sign for a few weeks...

Something must have prompted you to go through this experience as it is normal for all of us to wait for something to happen before subjecting ourselves to the ordeal that you have had to go through. But all's well that ends well and that seems to be the case with you.. Congratulations! Honestly routine checks are necessary these days what with so many nameless diseases that have no symptoms at all until it becomes too late.If that is what you did you are truly wise I must say!

well, back in early March I was having a low groin pain, we decided that it was probably a pulled muscle, but since it had been 7 years since the last time, I decided to go ahead and do it again according to the nurse, the youngest person she had seen that day was 32, and yes, he had problems, so she was happy to see an older person without any.

Well, the way you phrased this at first, you and the roomie were fighting. Not fighting the internet, which you were. This procedure sounds a little different from what we will have hubby do next month. I never have had any form of this little procedure. No money, no insurance, no test. No symptoms, no problem. I hope. We will see you around as you get back into the swing of things.

I guess that's what I get for doing it just before going back to bed... In all honesty, tho, I've been fighting connection problems for over a month and she didn't see it as a problem until it affected her, so there might be something about us fighting too... I'm glad I have insurance, but I don't remember last time having to pay so much money... at least I'm good for another decade

Hi. ElicBxn. No. I have never went through this before at all. I am sorry that you had to though. I hope that things will get so much more better for you though. The only time that I have ever had to go onto a strict diet is when I had to get a lipid and cholesterol test at the hospital one morning. I don't like getting these kind of tests because, I am usually hungry in the mornings when I can't eat. I hope that you are feeling so much more better though. Take care of yourself.

I have something for you to watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ry5nrogktmU It's "How to enjoy a colonoscopy." Actually, it's funnier if you're a guy but even I laughed so hard I almost felt like I was doing the draining of the plumbing again. Hope you get a laugh. I had this done not too long ago. Unfortunately, they were going in each end of me at the same time. I had an endoscopy because food was getting stuck in my throat. They stretched it out with a balloon thing and I've been fine since but, like you, it'll take me at least 10 years to forget THAT end of the procedure! How very rude! I felt like saying a line I heard Steve Martin do in the movie "Father Of The Bride II" when he accidentally got wheeled into a colonoscopy room, came running out, pulling his pants up saying, "Do I know you???" Yep, I was told the same thing... I don't need this done for another 10 years. Yippee!!! Isn't the prep fun? That's the WORST part of the whole thing! Glad to hear your plumbing is okie dokie!

That is pretty funny! The prep was the worst! Not so much the not eating, I wasn't every really uncomfortable about that, maybe weak a few times, but since I was only putting down around 600-700 calories I guess that could be expected. But last night was a whole other story! Maggiepie got it down the throat once, and they said she has a cartilaginous ring right above her stomach, that is the reason she has for so much reflux... I suspect I might have one too, a bit further up since sometimes things get stuck until they can pass on down, but it isn't bad enough to go looking, yet anyway... But he said its "perfect", hey, its nice to know SOMETHING is perfect!

Re: getting things back to normal, I suspect it may be a few days/weeks before things are quite right, but IBS sure can put a kink in it. The roomie (the blind one) just turned 50 so she needs to think about a "base line" soon.

Oh yes! Your post brings back traumatic memories! I had a similar test done many years ago. I was still quite young and you can imagine my horror to discover that one of the nurses that had to assist the procedure was a neighbor of ours! It was so embarrassing! More so because I was younger. Luckily the test was clear. I don’t quite remember why I had it done but I will never forget having it done! I sympathize! Take it easy...

Oh, now that might've been bad. I remember thinking that I probably didn't want to see a certain cute young doctor when I ran into him in the apartment complex looking for his dog. One thing to see him in the office, quite another to know he was a neighbor!

I had it done once and will never do it again! The only reason I had it, was I was on birth control pills and they wouldn't give me any more until I had it done. Talk about blackmail! As you probably know I am disabled and had to stay near to the bathroom the whole day before, it takes me so long to get there. The procedure itself wasn't bad because I was out the whole time. The day before was something I never want to experience again! On the way home from the test, my friend wanted to stop and eat but I couldn't. When I don't eat solid food for a few days, and I start again, it goes right through me. I just came home and went straight to bed.

I was awake the first time, but didn't feel anything. I told the anesthesiologist that I was hoping to do that again, I like watching that "TV - inside - me!" But no, I was out before the 3rd shot!

I had my plumping checked 4 weeks ago! The doctor decided to do it bacuase colon cancer runs in my family. The worst parts were fasting for a day and a half! Then cleaning the plumping out the night before! So fun! Then 2 nurses had trouble getting an Iv started! Finally the doctor got a good vein! Well my plumping was fine.Just internal hemerrhiods! I have 5 years beofre I go theough that again! Since then I thought those darn things hadn't heal. So I saw a surgean yesterday becuase I would need surgery to remove the problem! Not! The darn things did heal and the problems I still am having is a rash of all things! So I was given instructions to get that healed up! That wasn't the worst part! The worst part was when he had to examine me! That was not pleasent! I never want to go through that again! Hopefully if I do what I am suppose to I'll be ok in a few weeks! Hopefully ,on Easter when I see my family,I'll fell better! I am still frustrated!

I had a great aunt who developed it in her 90's, but they weren't sure if the cancer or the strokes would kill her first, I think it was the stroke effects. As I tell people, I'm going to die of a stroke, I just want to go quickly.
