Finally I have my diagnosis: lymphoma.

So, after months of tests, doctors, administrative stupidities, I went to the right doctor who saw all my tests. I have a lymphoma or lymphomas. It is yet to check after a bone marrow biopsy. S***!!! To begin with, it seems I will have 6 chemos 21 days apart one from the other. Funny enough, I was hysterical when noone told me anything but now that I know, I feel I´m in charge of my life again. So I decided I will NOT change the bathroom tiles but spend more more money in heating. I will call a friend to help me check my books and I´ll donate some of them to the public library. I have lots of books and many of them are the kind that students have to read. Some others I might give to the university if they want. I´ll keep the ones I know I will reread. I was talking about one of them with the friend who went with me to the doctor today. I would never give away Crime and Punishment or any of my Steinbecks. I don´t know yet how this could be a discussion: it´s more an anouncement to my friends here. It is not a rant either: I have too much to do to spend time being angry because I´m sick. And I might start knitting awesome headcovers as I already know that my hair will fall. I need possitive energy. If you know what I should do, tell me. I´m not going to have this thing win.

Thanks a lot! Today I´m going to another doctor only to see whether there are other ways of treating the lymphoma. Meanwhile, I have a friend that will help me do some house cleaning, specially with books.

Miracles are everywhere if you care to look at them. Today, a friend came for a visit and I told her that the 6 chemos were ambulatory. She said that that was easy. We would have to find 6 friends to take me and wait for me only once. Before 2 hours had passed, I had 4 friends signed for them. And I have not told my daughters yet. So that problem is solved.

Dear marguicha First, I am so happy reading this - I´m not going to have this thing win - as this indicates something about the positivity you already have with you and as they say - A battle well begun is half won. Many people fall to their negatives once they come to know of something so prolonged. But now that you did not, I can share with you things that I have been doing during the past month and hope they can be of any help - 1. if you are interested in reading, prepare for some lighter reading that would keep you engaged and stay positive. (Not the heart-rendering stories or anything that makes you feel bad and sick) 2. You can also try finding some small work online - small in terms where there is no time frame and you can go ahead with things beyond the strict time frames - I find a blog much suitable. Whenever you have time, say a post or two - maybe about your illness, or even anything that makes you feel happy. 3. Some rest. I know the medication will make you weak and drowsy but the rest I am reffering to is not the one as a result of this. I was subjected to medicines that made me sleep 18 hours+ per day, but that did make me feel more sick. So I took out some extra minutes of rest - listening to songs, looking out at the nature from my room. 4. A little of MyLot. And stay away from the gloomy discussions that talk of illness and bad things happening at your friend's life. Yes, I am sorry that this is added here because I found when we are low and weak, such discussions do make us feel more sick instead of staying positive - it should be - well I am at least better than this thing, but unfortunately it did not happen with me and I felt more sad reading a couple of such discussions. Whatever you do, just take care that anything that brings sadness on has to be shyed away from. And I am sure, you would recover soon for good of all (and more specifically for me as I too am headed for cancer of colon sometime or the other.) Prayers as always. Sids.

Thank you both dear friends sophiecheer and shengcruz. A warm to you both for appreciating the view. Sometimes when we feel low, it is only dear great friends that comfort us. Maynot be able to take the physical pain off but still we can contribute towards being friends and standing together when times are low. have a great time friends.

My dear friend, you have the right spirit, there are lots of people who have got back their health with positive thinking. When we feel relaxed, and happy, our cells work much better, so with this attitude you will be a winner, I am sure of that. You can always back up your health by good nutrition, as that is also helpful. Wish you better health and a happy life...

Great I read a book about the power of oxygen, that can heal almost anything in our body. But we have to be relaxed as otherwise our cells don´t let the oxygen in... Another thing is that we need to eat the right fats so that our cell membrane lets the nutrition in and the waist out. The cell membrane consists of fats, so to keep the fats fresh we need vitamin E from cold pressed oil (not heated nuts too) and vitamin A which we can get as carotenoids from red and yellow vegetables (also green veggies, I think). The carotenoids need oils too as vitamin A is fat soluble. I´ve learned this from some top scientists that work with Stanford University and also compose food supplements for www.gnld.com - the food supplements may not be available in your country, but the principles they teach work all over the world. Welcome to ask if you wish to know more..

I will check that, dear. I think most f the food supplements are available in my country, and very near my house as I live at walking distance of the biggest supermarket in town. I live in a city of several millions of inhabitants so that there´s about everything, if you are willing to pay for it. As for today, I´m going to eat a homemade yogurt with homemade apricot jam from my very own tree and a big salad with greens from my garden and a bought avocado. I make my own salad dressing with olive oil, vinegar and salt and some grated cheese and dry oregano (also from my garden). Thanks for caring! I need that now.

I will do all that. I thought at first that if the tests said I had cancer, I´d start smoking aging. But now I discovered it was dumb. I´ll try to take care of my body as much as possible and live a happy life.

The six chemos seems to be common for many types of cancer. I know that is what I had for mine both the first time and this time. Did they tell you what you would be on? I'm glad that the knowledge of what you will be going through gave you the feeling of being in charge again. I've always heard that knowledge is power and your statement there just proves it! Your post is just like my first one was! Let the world know what is going on! You may want to consider cutting your hair short either before it starts falling out or as soon as you start shedding. As soon as my hair started coming out in my brush I had it cut to a couple of inches, but when it started coming out on my pillow and in the shower I just cut it all off (as far as you could get without a razor). This thing won't win because I know you are strong!!! Hang in there!!!

I have not heard of those, but there are different chemos for every type of cancer it seems. I know things will go well for you so don't lose hope! It will take longer (probably) for you to lose your hair because it is your first time around. My first time it wasn't until after my third treatment (over two months) before I started shedding at all. This time it was within a week of my first treatment. But since no two people are alike, you will have to wait and see. Have a great weekend!!!

Dearest Debbie, I have been thinking about cutting my hair short, in part because it is straw like now and I guess that if I cut it, it will be better for some time. The name of chemo they will give me are CHOP-R and Rituximab. I don´t know much about it yet though doctors say that it doesn´t have many side effects as other chemos, besides the fall of the hair. I´ll tell you more when I have time. A BIG HUG!!!

I don´t want to donate all my books. But I have an extensive library and I will not read again all those books. Many of them will be interesting for students or scholars. This has nothing to do with the pain of chemos, but of doing some things that I´ve been meaning to do for a long time.

Hi Marguicha I want to say that I admire you for taking full charge of your life. I honestly can't say I know how you feel as that would be wrong of me. What I can say is that your friends including me will be praying day and night for you and sending all the positive energy we possibly can. Though I feel you will not allow this "thing" win at all. You will defeat this as you are not one to take anything lying down. You will be an inspiration to all those who feel that life is not worth fight for. Do all you need to do and definitely allow us to continue to send positivity your way. I am glad now you are no longer waiting with the what if, as now you will be fighting the "it". We will call it the "it" because we want it out and gone for good.

Yes me too, am glad you will have a friend there with you, this will definitely be help for you. Especially as she was there for you and your family before. As I have said to many here on myLot that although some may not respond to discussions, we never know if some are reading and can learn and be helped from the discussions. Therefore, this is very helpful dear friend as some may be dealing with similar situations as well as you and or the others we know who have experienced similar illnesses and can be inspired with hope.

hi marguicha I am sorry that you have to deal with this but I have read those people who do approach lymphoma with a positive attitude are the ones who get cured. seems ones out look soes something good in your body as regards healing so you have got the right ides. be positve and hang in there as if you feel you are not going to let that thing win it will not. Also I am sending my prayers to God to help you win ou t and not have to suffer a lot.I am sure other mylotters willalso send prayers and with all our prayers going strong you willhave help in defeating this thing.

I wish you all the best and please try to stay positive. Just try to take care of yourself and pray that the chemo will kill the cancer cells. I hope that you have the love and support of your family to help out.

So how were the egg plants we were talking about last time? Yes diet is one of those things that would greatly reduce the effects of a Chemotherapy as I have read so many times, fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts I suppose, again I really admire you, would you be my friend?

I am eating a lot more veggies and fish instead of red meat. I´ll behave as much as I can as nutrition gos. But sometimes it doesn´t work. The firt day I went to the doctor, I had to send the firend who was with me to go and buy a Tobblerone. I suppose it was anxiety. Nw that I know the diagnosis and prognosis I´m ok. It´s no big deal and I´m going to pamper myself insome ways while the chemo is on.

Toblerone!I love Swiss Chocolate, Yes anxiety is what kills, I was once depressed for a long time because of a cyst that grew in my armpit and it really made me very feel very terrible, although I have a Medical background, it's different when we are the one with a condition, so finally I decided to have it biopsied and it was benign. Yes pamper yourself, oh thanks for accepting my friendship request

Soory to hear this sister, any way now you know, what you will have to do particularly about the treatment, i know you have a very positive attitute towards life, chemo is costly here, my friend underwent last here , she had cancer in boobs, one was removed, she lost her hair completely, used a wig, but now the hairs are back, wears a padded bra.. You have to face this my dear sister.. I underwent several operations too in the past years. Thanks for sharing Happy mylotting, cheers. Kalyani ‘Namastey’. .

Dear sister, I will try to live as best as I can and it has given me a lt of energy to start preparing myself for some changes. I´mm checking costs but this illness is paid in a great part by the goverment here. Besides, my youngest daughter bought years ago an extra health insurance that will probably help too. It´s intersting, but to know what I have has given me new energy because I feel that I have a lot of things to do. I´ll keep you posted.

I gues you got off with a good start, being positive about it! I am convinced that the will to live is very strong. I don't know you at all but I just wanted to respond because you have reall balls announcing this here. I really respect that!It must be a difficult time starting chemo and all that $@#@@#$. Well, as terrifying as the diagnosis may be, at least you have one. Hopefully you will beat this cancer and live a happy life. I just had a friend my age (17) die of lymphoma after a 3 year battle. It was absolutely horrible to hear, because she'd always been so strong and brave throughout the entire thing. Katie never let the disease get her down, and I hope that you won't either (it already sounds like you're determined to do the same). I wish you the best and hope that you have a wonderful life.

It all depends on the type of lymphoma. Mine is a slow grower and was caught at an early stage. Besides, young people are more prone to die of cancer than old people. their metabolism plays against them

If my hair grows back beutiful, it will be a first, friend. Now it´s awful althugh I had a reasonable hair a long time ago. I will go today to another doctor, just to check. If nothing changes, I´ll be at the hospital for a few days. Isn´t cancer a pest? When human beings get rid of TBC and siphilis as big problems, other ones appear. Maybe we are not meant to feel we ca reach immortality.

Hello marguicha! How are you today? I've researched about lymphoma and it's only now that I understood what kind of disease it is... Anyway, I am not here to give you some advices because I am in no position to do that for an obvious reason-you're about the age of my mom...and I am just like a daughter to you, unripe and inexperienced. When I read your post, I was reminded of my mom-in-law whom we took to the hospital a few months ago. She underwent a major operation. Her doctors told us that she actually "won't make it" because of her old age and complicated health condition. We cried hard but we never ceased praying fervently. We kept our hopes high and never gave up. We didn't believe what the doctors said. Miraculously, after a week in the ICU, her doctors said that she'd survive. One thing that really amazed me was the observation of her doctors. According to them, all her organs were infected and affected, except her heart and brain! Isn't it surprising and inspiring? The thing is, our brain and heart must work together to be able to surpass whatever difficulty we're facing each day. I realized that if we have both a good heart and a positive mind, we can possibly overcome all our trials, but of course, we also need faith... I do believe in the power of prayers and I know that miracles happen to those who believe... I hope you will preserve both your mind and heart! And one more favor, please do keep me company here in mylot...thanks!
