I'm ruined!

I have been on vacation for the last week and a half. I have went to Indiana for a few days, spent time with the family, been spoiled rotten, and worst of all, I am no longer on my original schedule. I am ruined. I have been staying up late and sleeping in. Oh my...4am will not be pretty on Monday..lol. I usually get up early on my own but I am thinking I might have problems with doing so now.
You know..this all started when I left my charger at home. I didn't have anything to do in the wee hours of the morning so I just stayed up late and got up with everyone else. Do you have a schedule that you've ruined before? Did you have a lame excuse like me?
Did you have a hard time getting back in the swing of things?

Yep, I've got plans ruined before. It was hard to get back first but I managed to. Mostly, my plans get ruined because of friends.
You know how friends can be so insisting at times, that's how my friends are. Whenever they plan something out they include me in it and when I say I'm not gonna be able to come, they start saying how it'll be fun. Of course I like fun so I always go.

They don't actually say "It'll be fun" because it's kinda general. They actually say "There'll booze and women" which kind of catches me everytime. Now that my relationship is kind of stable, I'm able to pass up on it. My girlfriend can be a beast when it comes to me making mistakes. Well, that and in bed.

Yes I have. Since I work in a school, I have summers off from the school, but continue to work my other jobs. Last summer, I did not find a job to temporarily replace my school job. Soooo, I would stay up late and sleep in, just like you did. This summer though, I found a nanny job just for the summer, so that is helping a little bit since I have to be on a schedule, just like a regular job. But I have been off since last Thursday, before the long Holiday weekend, so I have been in the bad routine of staying up late and sleeping in. I will go back to work on Monday and will hopefully be able to easily get back into the swing of things. I do like some spontaneity in my life, but now that I am in my 30s, it's amazing how much I appreciate consistenecy.

I enjoy consistency a bit more now than when I was younger too. I do, however, enjoy the noschedule, no appointment, and no responsibility time sometimes too. Oh..my vacation has flown and to be honest, I don't want to go back yet..LOL.
I bet it is tough to get back into a routine when you are off the whole summer. My neighbor is a teacher and she volunteers at the Boys and Girls club through out the summer. I guess that keeps her in the swing of things.
Thanks for responding and good luck with your schedule too.

I have no schedule to ruin, and that is the pits. I used to be an early riser, now I stay up late and when I wake up, even if it is early I have no real energy. I hope you get back on track really soon.

We adapt, don't we. I live with a night owl and I am a lark, but right now, I am not really anything except tired.

Thanks...I need all the well wishes I can get. I think my night owl thing is genetic..LOL..my mother and grandmother were both late night people. I was even raised by grandparents on my dad's side who were early risers and it has taken me forever to get myself scheduled. My goal when I took electronics...alot younger than now...was to hook house speakers up to an alarm clock

It is but natural that when you went on vacation your schedule would have gone hay wire. Now you are back to your place, things will fall down or say settle. It is a matter of few days. All the best.

ya know, I expected to have a hard time when I got back from my vacation, but since the roomie's mom seemed to enjoy getting up early, since her husband wants her to stay in bed while he sleeps in, I wasn't going to protest too much...
We ended up getting up earlier every morning while I was on vacation than I normally would want - and, in fact, seldom get to sleep to the alarm since...
does mean I'm rarely getting enough sleep - and don't ya know that when I do, I'm tired all day!

Just like me....can't win for losing
I tried that staying in bed stuff until the b/f gets up...he likes that too but to be honest...my mind just goes too fast for that. I only stare at the ceiling in a very aggravated state, thinking of all that I could be doing
He prefers me to be happy when he gets up
Thanks for responding and I hope you get some rest.

Shame on you! lol It will take you a while to get back on your schedule. Sounds like you had a fun vacation. I had alot of trouble getting to bed some nights when I was working. I am a night person anyway and so there were times I was introuble. Then when the stress set in I might as well forget sleep. You will get back to it sooner than you think. I might set a second alarm for a few days though. lol

I don't recall hearing the word 'brilliant' in the same sentence where I am being discussed in a long time. Thanks for that! Having rising problems for years I have had to learn some tricks. I am sure you won't have a problem getting back on time. You are too responsible not to. I do enjoy the night. You are so welcome for the advice. That's what friends are for. Have a good week getting back to it. You'll do fine.

That is a great idea....have I told you before that you are brilliant? My cellphone will serve as a nice back up...I will be setting them across the room too. No reaching over leisurely and turning them off can be allowed...that will result in instant tardiness..LOL..can't afford that.
I am up pretty early this morning so I am moving in the right direction I think.
I am a night person by birth too and this dayshift schedule adjustment really put me through the wringer for a while.
Thanks for the advice!1 person likes this

My body has always been pretty good about adjusting to sleeping and waking up when I need to. I am not a morning person at all, but my body has gotten used to me getting up at a certain time. I still usually wake up around the same time if I have to or not. A few weeks ago I worked till 5 am when I usually work 9 am -5 pm. That threw me off for about a day.

Hi Jen! Welcome Back! Glad you had a nice vacation! It has been a few years
now since I've "worked regular hours" so I am totally thrown off any schedule.
I go to bed sometimes in the wee hours of the morning and sleep during the
day unless I have an appointment to go to. Sometimes I will go to bed earlier
(12:00am). But, I do remember how difficult it was for me to ever keep a
"normal" schedule. I've always had Insomnia so some nights I would just watch
the clock and be a wreck the next day at work! It's hard to get back into
a routine, but you will get used to it in a few days!

Ewww..I forgot about jetlag...I had a pretty good case of that when I went to Japan. It affected me a little on my first trip to see my grandmother a few years ago in California but I just figured that was because I got motion sickness on the plane..LOL..I always take a Dramamine before I fly after that bout. Oh and chewing gum was another trick I learned pretty quick after that first trip...lol.
Thanks for responding!

I used to wake up at 5:30 in the morning, which was just enough time for me to get to the office by 7:30am. But ever since I've moved to the new job, I've 'ruined' my own schedule! When I wake up in the morning, the idea that I work close by, always pops into my head. So, I have been waking up closer and closer to 7:30.
The fact that we don't have any time cards to maintain, doesn't help too!

I can see how that would make it harder..lol.
I know what you mean about the timing thing. I have it timed to the minute what time I need to get up and out of the house. I am doing ok so far but I am not sleeping well at night yet.
Thanks for responding.

Hi Jen
LOL doesn't it actually feel nice to be able to do so for the few days you did? I am sure you will be tried the first couple days but then you will drop to bed thereafter and get back to your routine.
Yes I had been known to do the same when I worked offline quite a bit actually, especially during holidays and the kids were over. OMG, so much fun but then the next day I was like a zombie.
Cheers to your Early bird days again soon.

I have a feeling that zombie might be an understatement for me when I go back..lol..I have never been a morning person anyway and it has been a struggle to get on the schedule. I can'e believe after all that time it was so easy to fall into my old schedule..LOL..I guess we are sometimes born with a certain body clock thing.
I am going to start working on my schedule a few days before I go back...oh my...I only have a few more days now
I better shape up

Yes, i had a ruined schedule before but I did my best to patch up things and get back to my used to schedule. Maybe you should do that by sleeping early and not doing excuses. Have a good rest for that will cause stress in you. :)

dear Jen we are in the same boat. When I have two weeks off I will turn into the worst night owl for the first week and then during the second week I will get adjusted to my original schedule of at least hearing the alarm clock 3:30 am as normally I get up at 4 am.
Now I had two weeks off work and now the third week of sick leave and will have to return to work 19th so I make sure I hear my alarm clock even if I dont get up at 3:30 or 4 am yet.
Of course that means its lights out 11 pm so now I have another hour to mylot.

I'm a night owl so I would have your problem in reverse. I would have to try to get to bed early so I could get up to go to the beach early , It rarely happens. Luckily I can and have worked on 2-3 hours of sleep. But once vacation is over, I go back to my regular schedule.

Jen, I used to work day shift, except for one day a week when I would work the third shift and it seemed as though my body clock was always a mess! I could never seem to sleep during the day and then the next day I did want to sleep, but if I did then I could not sleep that night before I went back to work for the day shift. It seemed to always mess my schedule up. I guess it was not a lame excuse, but the employer didn't understand it.
Hope that you are getting back into the schedule and I am glad you enjoyed your trip!

Oh..that is tough. I did third shift for 6 months and dayshift for 6 months a few years ago. I did it because the third shift was a temporary supervisor position...during the busy season we had three shifts..in the summer, we slow down and only have one or two shifts. I hated it. I'm glad I got a permanent dayshift position now. I hated having to change all the time...I couldn't imagine having to do it as much as you did.
Thanks for responding and I hate we didn't get to do lunch while I was in...maybe next time.

I am a late sleeper all the time........up half the night. The last few weeks, I have been watching my 3 year old grandson 2 or 3 days a week. The rest of the week, I have been getting up earlier than I used to, until I stayed up later than I had been and started my old sleeping habits. These last 3 days, I have needed to be up earlier but can't make myself go to bed earlier. I always seem to find things to keep me occupied in the wee hours! Needless to say, with the lesser amount of sleep, my butt is dragging today. Am thinking that my grandson's nap time is looking good for me as well!! BUT I did threaten yesterday and didn't sleep when he did...........tomorrow-Sun or Mon, I will be in WV and on whatever schedule is set by the rest of the group staying in the national forest cabin with me........sister, daughter and 3 granddaughters!! I hate mornings.......early ones, anyway.

Nothing like a 3 year old to get things hopping in the morning
You should let me borrow him for a while so I can get back on my schedule.
I have always been a night person too...it has taken a lot of time and determination to get used to the 4AM thing. I can see now that it is easier to fall back into original sleep preferences than it is to change them. I actually strived for days because of my children. Maybe after they are grown I'll go back to my self schedule..lol.
Thanks for responding and have a great time at the cabin!

Yes several times I have ruined my schedule because of my sleeping habit. I know I have to wake up in the morning so I could cook for my hubby, do the house chores but nope I could not get up that early since I sleep so late. I have always been comfortable waking at noon time and sleep late into the night it gives me so much room to work and a lot of peace. But when it comes to commitments that I need to wake up early in the morning, I have to drag my butt off the bed.

I really enjoy staying up late and sleeping in too. I can not tell you how long it has taken me to get my bodyclock set on the 4AM schedule..lol. I was getting up before my alarm clock even! Now I am back where I started. I hope it won't be too hard to get reset...LOL..I have to do 4AM.

You better walk the line then...LOL..that booze and women thing can cause the bear to be released
