Hi busybee10, this haven't happened to me even a single time in my life Not because I'm alert that I may cross my destination, just because I have the bad habit that I can't fall asleep while riding on public transport, no matter how exhausted I'm. I really envy people who can enjoy sound sleep in either their short or long journey. If I could fall into sleep easily during the journey, the monotonous travelling time will be passing fast It's sad that I'm not. Anyway I'm always the one who awakens my friends a while before reaching our destination. Happy posting

Wov,that is really great and I am happy to note this. Yes,as you say some really enjoy the journey with sound sleep but cannot help as they are accustomed to. Very happy to note that you help your friends in waking them up durihng the journey before reaching the destinations.

Not only some of my friends, my husband as well is another sleepy head. I'm so jealous he can fall into sound sleep that fast and easy . I think it's within 30 minutes or so. Another friend, a former female colleague of mine would fall asleep faster than my husband. It's really unbelievable that she's already in her sweet dream as the driver had just set the machine going It's not fictive it's authentic, believe me, I really have such a friend with her unique sleeping habit.

Wov - you are so free in expressing the thoughts... Some get tired I feel and hence go to sleep. This may be the case with your husband too. Any how, I just enjoy the sleeping people in the bus and observe their movements during the bus turns they move left and right proportionately with the movements of the bus. Some times I feel pity too. Now,I just ask the co passenger about the destination he gets down and if he/she sleeps then I wake him/her up to see that he does not miss the destination. Life is wonderful...I am just enjoying that...

There have been times that I have fallen asleep and missed my destination where I was needing to get off at. One time by the time I woke up I was not even sure where I was at and had to ask how to get back to where I needed to be. It was quite embarrasing and so now I really try and stay awake if I can.

Yes KrauseHome,I just wanted to hear such experiences and I appreciate your transparency in expressing your beautiful thoughts. I too came across some public who are accustomed to sleep within a few moments from the boarding of the bus..They are addicted to this - and may be face the situation which you have suffered,

I was listening to a personal stereo. I got on a train but I fell asleep and woke in Ash Ford. It was a shock and I stayed awake all the way back to the station I had meant to go to. Another time I was sleepy after a long haul flight and being in a different time zone made me feel like a zombie. I was in and out of sleep plus I felt jet lagged. I decided to get off at the town station instead of my walk to and from it station. You see I didn't think I could manage to carry my luggage home from the normal station I would depart and arrive at. I found out it was carnival in town! There were no taxis outside the railway station! I was worried about getting a taxi when I saw crowds in the taxi office. I had to wait hours and got a taxi with three other people. We shared the cost of the taxi and so I was very happy to finally get home.

Hello Busybee, It has happened to me many times when i was in college every 5~6 months i used to come home. My college was around 2500 km away from my home. And it was so boring to travel in train for almost 24 hours. It was difficult to spend time in train so i used to spend my most of the time sleeping in train. From then i have developed a habit of sleeping while traveling even if it is a small journey also. Once i was traveling in a local bus i slept and gone far away from my destination and had to come back that was bad result of my sleeping habit while traveling.

OK - I do understand that in long journeys you will surely sleep. Nut make a habit of being alert and active expecially in journeys, this is more important,or make friendship with the co-passenger to be busy for avoiding sleep.Use your own techniques to be active. As my suggestions will not work .....

Some years ago when I was a nursing student I worked at a hospital in another town. I had to commute every day, and it only took half an hour by train. I always tried to stay awake in morning, because I was afraid that I would miss my stop if I felt asleep. It was often hard to stay awake because it was very early in the morning (5:30 a.m.) One day I was especially tired and I didn't manage to stay awake. I woke up when the train arrived at my stop and I ran all the way to the door. I managed to get out of the train on time, but if I had slept a few more minutes I would have missed the stop and I would have been late for work...

I have to say that this has never happened to me anytime. If I am alone on the bus or the train or whatever, I never fall asleep and am always alert. If I am travelling with my family, of course I sleep beside them with their being on guard. I remember once I was on a bus and I was very tired that I yarned a lot. I could not help from falling asleep and knowing consciously that sleeping on bu with nobody familiar neraby can be dangerous so that I stood up from my seat, gave it to an old person, and cling to the bus bar and kept on yarning. I was standing so that I wouldn't fall asleep. Never have slept when I stands.

Wov flzmlady, it is great. OK your kindness of allotting a seat to an old man because of avoiding sleep is also highly appreciable. Anyhow, to be conscious on a journey is of utmost importance especially if we are alone.

hello busybee10, i dont remember that situation happened to me though i am not saying that i have tried to get a nap while travelling. its just, i am setting my alarm under a low tone to wake me up after some few minutes. since i already know my travelling hours, so i am just setting my alarm just in time to wake me up. in that case, i already wake-up before reaching the place of my stop.

I used to take the train to work and on my way home I would always fall asleep on it. I wasn't trying to sleep, it just happened!! Fortunately I would never miss my exit, I always woke up just before I reached my destination. It was always a scary thought to me to go further as I would have had to wait quite some time for another train to bring me back.

Hi Soleil05, that is what I wanted to hear from some one here and you have expressed in a decent way. That is right - different people have different habits and hence very glad to note that you are cautious just before you arrrive the destination. That is really great as the point of waiting quite some time for another train makes you alert.

Gladly, this situation never happened with me. When I travel by bus, I usually fall asleep for a couple of hours, but it's incredibly how I always wake up when I'm arriving at the bus station.
