I hate bar soap!

I've read or heard somewhere that bar soap leaves a lot mildew on your skin. I'd say Dove and Caress are probably two brands that leave the least or none at all. However, I just don't like bar soap. It makes my skin feel filmy when I am rinsing myself off, making sure all the soap is off of me. It also I am sure is drying my skin out more then helping it, and though I use a generous amount, I can't smell it on myself like I can body wash.
I just much prefer body wash even if sometimes it can be more expensive. The Suave brand is good, smells good and isn't that expensive, as well as the Ivea or is it Nivea? brand.
I use perfume but not that much, I much prefer using body wash and deodorant and not worrying so much about perfume if I can help it. However, I just sprayed myself down with perfume because though I know I was clean, I couldn't smell the clean smell like I can with body wash.
Which do you prefer?

I guess it's more of "what you buy the most". Of course if you're used to using body wash having to use bar soap totally sucks... which it does for me right now.

no, soap doesn't leave mildew on the skin. mildew is a mould. soap doesn't contain mould.
in fact, if you're worried about getting mould on your skin, you'd be better off with solid soap than liquid soap, as it's easier for bacteria to breed in a solid than in a liquid.
that's why most solid soaps don't contain preservatives and most liquids do. because otherwise they'll go off.
solid soaps are more hygienic.

bacteria breeds much more easily in a liquid than in a solid.
I work in a company that sells both soaps and shower gels. the soaps have a longer life than the shower gels, and the gels have more preservatives, as they need them.
and it's important to remember that a soap is naturally antibacterial.
so it might sit there, being antibacterial, with bacteria on it, and then dying, because it's antibacterial.
as well as being more hygienic, solid soap is more eco friendly, as it doesn't need a bottle for packaging. we sell ours cut from a large block, and wrap it in paper for the customer to take home. much better for the environment than a plastic bottle.

I guess I should have used "residue" instead of mildew, as definitely no mold on my skin.
I've laways thought that bar soaps were worse because they are sort of "exposed" while liquid soaps aren't. Soap just sits on the edge of the bathtub, or in the soap dish.

I am not contented with body wash. I prefer soap bar still. I use papaya soap all over my body and it has been giving me smooth and lighter complexion. Body wash to me feels too incomplete and can't fully wash off dirt. I don't know if that is just psychological because I've been so used to bar soap.

salonga,
I guess I am opposite of you. Growing up I did have to use bar soap but when I got my first job and bought my own stuff I started using bodywash as I preferred the smells. Now I feel like bar soap doesn't wash me as well, and leaves residue.

I usually use bar soap when I'm not showering, like when I'm taking a bath for example. I don't really mind using it. I was in the south of France last month and they have these great soap bars with all kinds of smells! I love using those that have a great smell, like strawberry or something. I like fruity stuff. ^^

Oh yeah those that have the fruity smells are a lot better and actually make me smell / feel clean. Now I just feel clean not really smell it. When I take a bath I still use the body wash. I don't take many baths though it's usually showers that I take.

Anything leaves a film on. Especially if you bathe and don't shower. I have been using body wash type liquid soap for several years. Suave and another one I can't think of right now. I like any soapy smelling product. A clean smell is nice and not over powering like most perfumes.

I don't know, I guess with the body wash it seems more... luxurious rather then just filmy. Suave is great, Nivea is as well. There are several brands out there but those two I've seen to be the cheapest.
Perfumes are good, but the ones that are worth spraying are usually more expensiv. I'm talking about the ones that smell natural and not fake like so many of the walmart style perfumes do.

I use a body spray daily as apposed to perfume. Perfume I have but only use occasionally. Body wash works for me. I use to wash my delicates too so it is worth it to me.

I don't like bar soaps. I use very nice brand Radox Smoothies. It's smells like real fruits and got nice texture, nourish your skin. I have very dry skin so I'm quite picky about body wash. I also like Palmolive and Nivea. For intimate areas I use special Intima wash without soap, which can dry your skin there.

Radox smoothies sounds a lot like some of the "bubble gum" type smelling stuff made for adults or children, the kind of "girly" scents. Yeah I use Summer's Eve or just a cottonelle wipe down there.

The one I'm using now is lever 2000, it just doesn't have a strong enough smell. I guess because it's mostly a antibacterial soap and not so much a deodorant soap. I've had caress bars in the past and they were good. It just needs to have moisture to it for me. Still, I prefer the bodywash.

I prefer body wash. I don't like bar soap and I don't like shower gel. Bar soap just doesn't feel as good on my skin as body wash does. Since bar soap can be cheaper than body wash I will use it. I found Ivory bar soap on clearance so I bought it and have been using it. I actually don't mind the Ivory bar soap although I still prefer the body wash.
I tend to like the expensive kind of body wash too. Such as Dove, Caress, and Olay. Since they are so expensive I don't buy them usually unless I find them on sale or occasionally as a little gift to me.
Generally I enjoy body wash more than I do bar soap no matter what the brand. I use one of those sponges that look like a ball. I think it helps when you use bar soap also. I really don't like the feel of the bar soap on my skin using only the bar soap.
I keep forgetting to buy another one of those sponge things though because ours lost the little round handle that you can hang it up in the bath with and sometimes it gets lost in the bathroom.
I find that bar soap usually lasts longer than body wash which makes me mad.
Perhaps I should use smaller amounts of the body wash when using it.

I am a Dove white user, and so are my two girls. It was advised by a pediatrician two decades ago. So far, our complexion are okay, and we are not vulnerable to allergies, pimples, nor some skin infection. Dove, I believe, has nourishing cream. Sometimes though, we treat ourselves to real expensive body wash, especially when we have parties to attend. Taking a bath with creamy and scented body wash feels so good.

I am more apt to use a lot more bar soap then I am body wash. Bar soap I feel like I don't get enough of, but with body wash I get just the amount I need, usually two quarter size dollops.

I've always been a bar-soap kind of guy. Maybe because I grew up in a time where bar soaps were the norm. It just feels more natural for me to have something to hold on to. But I don't like the Dove ones as they feel so slippery.
Now my kids are used to the liquid soap. It was the soap they used when they were babies, and they've just gotten used to it. And used to wasting it all the time!

I like both bar soaps and body wash and gels. I usually use an antibacterial soap followed by a moisturizer soap. Or sometimes I use body wash instead of a moisturizer soap. I like Dove and Olay body bar and soaps from The Body Shop.

i always think of the USA as being somewhere where people like making things, as i have so many craft books written by people from there. but in the UK there are a lot of small companies that make soap and a lot of them are very nice, so i like to use them. as i always think the less chemicals the better. and a lot of them smell very nice.
i do sometimes use body wash, but mostly i use a bar of soap, but i don't like soaps like dove much either, as its highly perfumed but has a very synthetic smell, not a natural perfume.
but soap bars made by small companies can be quite nice, if you can find them.

There is a site etsy, there may also be a UK counterpart where people sell things. Some people sell soap they've made as well. I think if it's homemade it'd be better, less drying to the skin. I think a lot of it has to do with psychological for me. I've been so used to body wash now that the other stuff just doesn't cut it for me.

It might harbor bacteria on it is what I would think. I really just dont like bar soap at all either. Thats all my parents use at their house so thats what I grew up using. Once in my own house I switched to body wash. I dont like the feel of the bar soap it feels slimy on my skin and is harder to rinse off.
