A Regular Visitor...... A Winged One.

A bird, for that matter, an ash colored one....a mourning DOVE is now a regular visitor to the household. The guest has become much friendly to the extent of listening to my calls, obeying and responding to my gestures. He/She perches firmly atop my forearm or sits comfortably on my lap. It pecks on the grains or variety of pulses offered in love. When prompted it picks up those food grains from within the folds of my palm. Of the variety of food grains offered this particular bird has developed an exclusively strong liking for green gram.It feeds on every single grain with meticulous care. It is very glad to learn the the visitor in question is no more fearful and in turn dances in mirth on arrival. How fascinating it is ? It is quite an experience to cherish. Developing a sentimental tie with the bird for its nice behavior is definitely not out of question. NATURE - wonderful, exquisite, beautiful, marvelous, excellent.

How interesting! We have them here, but I never tried to make a pet of one. They try to nest in the chimney and make a mess! Also when they sit on top of the chimney they make a horrible noise that is most distracting when I sit at my desk and want to work. They are very pretty to behold, though :-)

I just got done reading the series of Anne of Green Gables books and they had a robin in one of the books that became a regular part of their household, but other than that I've never heard of any situations where there has actually been a bird that is that close to a person in a household. It is amazing that you've been able to develop the relationship that you have with that dove. Enjoy the gift that you've been given because that is definitely not a typical occurrence.

That's indeed fascinating sukumar. It seems that the bird is tamed and friendly. I've never had a regular bird visitor. But there was a time a bird flew through my window. It wasn't very tamed however. And I didn't want feathers in my room so I immediately shoo it away. We do have a regular dog visitor though. It's my cousin's dogs and whenever I feed our dog, the visitor would wait for our dog to finish eating and eat what's left in our dog's food. We also have a regular cat visitor, this one I really hate because it would jump over our table and eat our food. I just wish I can catch it one time and put it in a sack and throw it away some far away place.

Wow that's an amazing experience you have there. Rarely does it happen and you sure have to cherish that. Nature has so many secrets and its wonderful creatures are so loving. Especially the birds. I hope it won't end. Birds give that relaxation to us, especially when we hear them chirping in the morning.

You have given him nothing to fear and he trusts you. It is really nice. My father's uncle had a squirrel that would visit his yard and do the same thing, taking nuts from his hands. Animals know whom they can trust and they give us a lot of pleasure just by doing so.

What a blessing that a wild bird will now share your arm or lap and eat from your hand! I am friendly with the birds in my yard but they would never think of coming near to me. You must have a special type of spirit that a bird will come near and touch you.

They are very graceful and pretty birds. Sounds like you have a nice friend. They make a lovely sound too. I think there is alot to be said for enjoying nature in one way or another. There is a saying I will share with you: When a man moves away from nature his heart becomes hard. - Lakota

How lovely! I wish I came across a beautiful bird like that! How unusual for it to sit on your arm and respond to you in such a manner. I found a baby turtle dove once and fed it hourly until it was strong enough to feed itself and then after that it stayed and lived with us for a year before passing away which was very sad but what a gift to have had the dove for a whole year! I think animals bless us with their presence.

hi sukumar, i wish i get a winged friend too. i have only experienced dogs as pets and rabbits. winged ones seems to be aloof, even chickens. i tried to make some chicken in the farm like me. i stayed there for nearly 2 months but they only like me when i bring them grains. when i already want to pet them, they ran. your experience with that dove is beautiful. ann

How wonder nature brings to us. How lovely is your regular winged visitor. It seems that it is your pet already. But a free pet since it is a bird that is free to wander around with nature and would visit you regularly. It's amazing that it will obey to your calls and respond to your gestures and would eventually sits comfortably on your lap. How I wish, I could find a nice bird such as yours. Although, there are a lot of bird outside my window right now chirping but none of the is as friendly as your bird fiend because every time I get close to it, it would fly away.
