Ive searched mylot and cant find anything on Hurricane Irene. Im really worried about my many friends there from mylot. ive been watching CNN faithfully over it all. anyone know if our friends are evacuated? maybe thats why ive seen nothing on here about it. im praying for all our friends out the way of the storm. anyone know or have anything to say about it? it looks quite scarey.

well, there's a black cat in New York City who didn't evacuate but she's fine - a few other friends I know are also fine... I do have a friend who's not from here who doesn't have power until the middle of the week... other than that, she's fine

you must be talking about pywacket? glad alls ok. this morning watching the news, people were out celebrating the passing of the storm. just floods and power loss. but good thing they decided to be safe some people. better then risking the worse.

I have been watching the news broadcasts on the TV about hurricane Irene. Many people in New York City are leaving before the hurricane arrives. It is really getting very scary. I am not sure, but very probably there are members of the myLot community from New York too. Probably evacuated by now.

Hi Bon! I have not been very active today and have not seen if they are or not online. I will be trying to contact one that I do know lives there and we have spoken on the phone before. I do hope they are all okay as far as I knew last night the one in particular stated she did not need to do so. But perhaps things have changed because she normally would be here by now.

All I can say about hurricane Irene is, she was not match for NYC. It was nothing, no flooding where I am and very little happened here. New Jersey and PA got more flooding then we did. I guess it pays to live in the concrete jungle.

By the time Irene hit New York, she had weakened to a tropical depression. She didn't cause too much trouble in Manhattan, but areas to the north of Manhattan got worse. That is what I heard.

I have not seen much here either, neither have I seen much on Facebook about how things are going living in the areas where people have been evacuated, etc. All I can say is that I am praying and wishing the best for those who have been effected by this.

I'm in Southeastern Pennsylvania about 10 miles outside Philadelphia. We've had the same low lying evacuations, total transportation shutdown and tornado warnings as New York. We've pretty much dodged the bullet so far and it's almost over. I think New York will probably come out of this about the same as Philly did. There will be some storm surge flooding in the days to come but very little injury, loss of life or wind damage. The municipalities were prepared for this one and it really paid off.

yes i think being prepared was a good idea. although the media made much about it. im happy it turned out ok for that area and NY.

I have been watching Fox News and the people have been told to evacuate the area. It is now in Long Island New York. Also it depends on whether your friends here on my lot who live in that area have cell phones and if they can get free wi fi where they are. Or they have a good data plan. However it depends on where they are. The place where they are staying may not have free wi fi and also they may have been advised to not use their laptops or iPads, etc. unless necessary.

Good. I am sure as soon as the internet works and the power lines are all right and your friends are back home, they will get on my lot again.

I know that there was a lot of damage in some areas. I spent two weeks there with the Red Cross and the first week I was in the field so I saw some devastation even though I wasn't in the worst areas. I hope everyone from MyLot was ok. Have a great week!!!

I'm in Virginia but, so far, we've had almost no rain at all, even though radar says we've been getting rain for hours now. I don't get it. We're in northcentral Virginia, on the very outer edge of this storm so that's probably the reason. We need rain desperately so I'm upset that we haven't gotten worse. Maybe some more will come later. I have two sisters-in-law who live on Maryland's Eastern Shore and also a good friend who also lives there. Two of them are right on the ocean, one in Ocean City. I believe she has evacuated but haven't heard about my friend. My other SIL has called my husband to let him know that she's okay so far. They have about 6" of flood water in their yard but still have electricity. (This is the one who lives farther from the ocean but still between the ocean and the bay.) I think the weather gurus are making more of this storm than it really is. Oh, I know it's bad but Florida gets far worse than this. From what I've heard, Virginia has seen two deaths from this storm and there have no other deaths in any other state. I hope it stays that way!

Seems I spoke too soon. We're just starting to get more rain and stronger winds. I've been watching the news and it seems that the majority of New Yorkers have been evacuated and are safe. Still, those who have stayed behind are going to be safe, for the most part. This storm, although strong, is not a strong hurricane. As a matter of fact, I believe it is a tropical storm at this point. It may increase again to a Category 1 hurricane but those don't produce too much damage. I wouldn't worry too much about your friend. Most people would rather be safe than sorry.

I don't know who you mean. I only know one person in NY and she is fine. They may have some heavy winds but I will wager that they will be fine. I guess we all need something or someone to worry about. They may just be busy with Summer and family. I am hoping that is the case.

The one friend I can think of from New York had discussions yesterday. She has a boyfriend in NYC, but where she actually has her apartment they are not being evacuated but were told to have enough supplies and to stay inside and away from glass.

Please don't worry about it so much. A friend told me in Weibo (a website similar with Twitter) and he said that the hurricane seemed to pass by and it just rained right now. So far so good. I love China

Hello Bunnybon, if Filipinos can survive storms with less structured homes, then the people of new york can too. knowing you guys have the best facilities there for rescue and food donations or something. i believe they will survive since the storm isn't like the ones in the movie "the day after tomorrow". i hope they do evacuate when things get worse.

I also have relatives in friends over in NY. The only thing we can do right now is pray that they'll be safe and that hopefully Irene will go away. I've been watching photos and videos and tracking the news, its really scary.
