Have you ever came across a situation where you have to reduce your vacation days due to sudden illness? I was on vacation recently but down with a terrible flu. Not only me but my whole family include my son, too. Since it makes my son having block nose and unable to sleep well, so I decided to go home early and get correct medication for our illness. In fact, this is the only time that we don’t really enjoy our vacation. Have anyone experience the same problem like this while on vacation?

Hello Myfb, Oh that was bad luck better luck next time. If i would have been in your place i would have been upset by it because i rarely get time to plan vacations and when i have gone for vacations and suddenly i have to reduce it due to any reason certainly it would have hurt me.

True, sj. It won't be fun at all after having planned it so well, and then had to cut short the vacation out of a sudden.

Happy to be able to bounce back into here for awhile. Good to see you are the first person to respond here. Seems like, Jlyn is trying her best to jump into this first responding box as well. Yeah, although i do feel sad but nothing can prevent it. Like my aunt and uncle had said, health should always come first. Vacation can still be plan and continue in future.

Well, I'm glad that your aunt and uncle are such understanding persons. And they are right, health should definitely come first. It doesn't matter which box I am cause I am considering this as my own discussion as well.

I have had this happen to me before. I was a bummer. I have also gotten sick on a nice restful week-end. That was horrid. Miserable all weekend and the week starts again. Gotta try to muster the energy to go to work. Hard to remember all you need to when your mind is bogged down with sickness.

Yes, in fact this is my first time getting sick while on vacation. Indeed, when we are sick, our brain is not able to function well. So, even our work had to suffer due to our sickness.

Celtice, unfortunately most bosses never understand well about this matter. They only want us to work like robot and never fall ill.

Hi myfb! So that's why your vacation was cut short. That's really unfortunate. I hope you are feeling better by now. I have not experienced this but I have experienced getting sick during a vacation. We do not cut short the vacation though just because I got sick. I just try to get better and then enjoy the vacation again. Thankfully I have not gotten sick seriously that I had to go home and cut short the vacation. I have only had simple colds or cough or allergy attacks that can be cured with first aid. I hope you and your son are feeling much better now.

Hi, I can imagine how you become sad because your vacation has been messy. I ever had similar experience while I was on vacation and got situation my family sudden illness. Our program for vacation of course was changed. As you said this is a sudden illness, so beyond your control. I think better to plan another vacation to pay disappointment of your family. You still have many other days. Have a good day.

Sorry to hear that your vacation didn't turn out so good after all. I hope that everyone is fine now. I guess our own home is the best place to be when we are not feeling well because we would feel more comfortable when we are at home and the healing works much faster that way. No, I have not experienced that kind of problem before but I hope it won't happen to me or my family members when we are on vacation.

I can remember one time. I got rashes all over my body. Then my aunt said that these rashes must not exposed to air or water. (I don't know if its a superstitious belief but I follow what she said).. Unfortunately, our island hopping was scheduled at that very moment, on our summer vacation. It would have been such a great experience, right? But I was not able to experience it. So sad. However, I just enjoy myself eating a lot that day because they left me all my favorite food so that I could not get bored. Still I'm happy about it.

Pity to hear that you are unable to enjoy your summer vacation due to rashes. I remembered that when i was still young, my parents also don't allowed me to go out from home when i developed rashes. Because when you let the cold wind blow your rashes, it tends to develop more rashes and will take much more longer time to heal. But, you are indeed lucky that they prepare your favorite food, for you to ease your boring being jailed at home during your summer vacation. Hope you are fine now...

I've been sick when on vacation before but since it was just minor things like a cough and cold, I never went back home because of it. It's quite sad if you've planned to do so many things for the vacation and then had to cut them short cos of an illness. But if your whole family is sick, then the activities might not be as fun anymore.

Hello myfb, Many times it happens with me as my kids were small and they fallen ill often may be small issues but spoils the mood and postpone many programs. I would like to stay at home when there is health problem with anybody. Last time only there was no health issues on vacation and we had a great time. I am sad to know that your vacation spoiled due to health issues, don’t worry; there may be minor issues due to change of climate and place. You all will recover very soon.

Yes, in fact only today i do feels quite well, so able to online for much longer time to catch-up with my pending's discussion comment. In deed, when children are still small, they are prone to illness. That's why, when my son is sick, i will prefer to bring to see my family doctor. At least, he is prescribing the medicine which is fit to my son. Yeah, my recent illness was due to raining season.

Hi mybf: Not exactly this way but it has happened that when I am on vacation I have been sick and that's really sad because you can't really enjoy your time. I'm sorry to hear that but I think it was good what you've done because your own health must be one of your main priorities. ALVARO

I'm so sorry you had to cut your vacation short. I don't think I have ever been sick on a vacation, but I have been sick on a holiday before. I was sick on Thanksgiving day one time, and it happened to be that I had to work this holiday... I had to call in sick and I know the folks at work thought I was just laying out to enjoy Thanksgiving with the family... but I wasn't.. in fact I was out that Friday too and the weekend sick with the flu... had to have a doc's excuse to get my sick pay. Because I didn't work that holiday they tried not to pay me for the holiday pay, but I reminded them I had a valid doctor's excuse and they paid me. I know this isn't exactly what you asked .. but it is the closest to the experience that I had.

I always bring along common medication, including medication for fever and blocked nose. I think diarrhea is a more common problem. It is better to over-prepare than under-prepare in this case.

It happened to us once. Fortunately we had come to the tail end of our holiday with just the last lap yet to be covered. My husband got some allergy that set him on breathlessness. We immediately called up our doctor and he prescribed some antidotes which put matters right but we called it a day and returned to the pavilion.

Hello myfb and welcome back! I am sorry you did not get to enjoy your vacation due to illness. As you know my last one was a complete disaster. With me catching bronchitis, the car breaking down and the weather way too hot, it was a complete flop and we too came home 5 days early. I hope you and your family are starting to feel better and maybe next year there will be a better vacation for all of us.

Yes I can remember of once. We had a festival here and we had holidays for about a week or so. I don't know what I ate but I vomited and was bedridden. It was so annoying. Everyone was having fun but I was there lying on my bed

Pity to hear that you had been bedridden during holiday time. so, you are sure feeling very sad at that moment. Hope you will be more careful when eating during holiday time. I remembered that before when i was still studying, one of my friends had been missing from her class for two days due to food poisoning, during her vacation.
