proof the old saying is true?

So there's this jokish saying, "if it moves and shouldn't, use duct tape, but if it doesn't move and should, use WD-40". I had to put half of that one to the test today. Got a call from Dearra around 4:00. She and Naomi had taken the dog for a walk, and when they got home and unlocked the door, the key got stuck. They were able to get in the house, but the key would not come out. So I told her I'd be home in a little over an hour, and I'd see what I could do. "Sure mom, I'll be hiding under the bed when some guy walks on in." Way to lay on the guilt, but really I know the dog would protect her if anything like that were to happen. Anyway, I got home, located the WD-40, sprayed it in the lock, removed the key, and gave it back to Dearra. Mom to the rescue. I still know everything. Yeah right....

Yes our children would be lost if it were not for our motherly heroic ways. Good thinking on her end though as one could never feel too safe about a key left on the door though. But yeah WD-40 does wonders on a great many things, and hey here is a thought, how about spraying a tad on R and maybe that would loosen him up a bit. Hmm why did I not think of this back when I got divorced. I better stock up on it as you never know when it will come in handy.

I love WD40 and always have some around. A few years ago I also found some duct tape and not having seen it available before and having heard of it's wide uses in the US, I grabbed 5 rolls of it. It's useless. It comes un-stuck and rolls back after 5 minutes. Reckon I've been gypped and it's not really duct tape....just some el cheapo imitation or something.

It works when the key is not broken in the lock. I use also wd-40 and it works most of the time.

So, is WD-40 good for the joints as well as the wheelchair parts?

We are the 5th, and I was surprised to not have read something about my virtual wheelchair this month. I use virtual wd-40 indeed.

I don't have any WD-40. I should get one and keep it handy for something like this. Why was she even complaining? You live in a safe community.

Glad to know you were able to save the day, so to speak... yep.. the dog would probably protect them for sure. I can remember when we never locked our doors, but that is a long time ago!

LOL! Yeah, I hear ya! I also like the graphite, that's pretty good stuff too... another is "if it moves and is noisy, use WD-40"

These two items, plus a hammer, screw driver with changeable heads and plyers are my household standbys, everything else belongs to Hubby and is down in the barn.I like the new duct tape that comes in colors.

Good on you Dawn! I love it when I can resolve things like that on my own without having to ask for help! It is true that if it wasn’t that some jobs require a lot of physical strength we could easily resolve most household problems especially with products like WD-40, very handy stuff!

I know what you mean . I occasionally had to remind my husband that I knew it was difficult for him to be married to someone who was 100% right. I adore WD40 - wonderful product. The girls could have put a scarf over the door hiding the key and gone for another walk

WD-40 is about the best invention since the wheel. I´m glad you solved the problem of the key. It will be a little more difficult to learn how not to feel guilty when your children manipulate you. My children are fortiish and I still have trouble with that sometimes.

Oh yeah, WD-40 is some great stuff and it has gotten my family out of a lot of sticky situations during the course of my life. However, I can think of one situation in my life where this didn't work. It was when my husband had the truck that he used to have and the key broke off in the ignition. We were never able to get that half of the key out of the truck and that meant that I was able to start the truck with a screwdriver thereafter.

Thank goodness for WD-40 (and duct tape)! I've never heard of that saying, but it sounds about right! Maybe I should apply this saying to the spare tire on my van which is already rusted through, and completely un-detachable from the van's underbelly. Maybe it'll work.

It helps in the short run, but someplace I read that doing that often is going to cause gunk to gather in the lock. I would probably do the same thing though. I think you mke an excellent example of a self sufficient woman.

Way to go mom! maybe a quick squirt of graphite will amend the problem again....though you found a solution anyway....

I don't use the WD-40 too much, but I use duct tape on almost everything! It really is my favorite tool. Heck, I've even used duct tape to pluck some facial hair when I was desperate, and it works too.. but only on longer hairs.. which is generally the case once I'm desperate enough to use the duct tape, LOL. I found this out one day when we were all fooling around together, and I put some duct tape on hubby's arm and ripped it off and all the hair came with it. LOL. He had a bald patch on his arm for months!

Why couldn't she have looked in the same places you did and find the WD and sprayed in there if she was so worried? A women needs to be independant and I sure learned it early. My mom worked the night shift and I was scared at first but my grams was a block away. Lot of help if some interloper came in. I stayed in the main bedroom which was in the middle of the house so I could hear clear around the house. Nice thing about old houses. You can hear them coming.

For some strange reason, though, people tend to frown on you using duct tape to keep a child in their seat, even when they are "moving when they shouldn't".

WD-40 - what a miracle! But I prefer to have back the time when I was living in a house with a simple lock that wouldn't be a problem to anybody. And during the hot seasons the door stayed open all day long.
