Thanks for the Advice (update on previous discussion)

Some of you may remember my discussions about my grandmother taking my mom (with dementia) to a conference where my dad is speaking. She was supposed to take care of her while my dad was speaking (it was 2 1/2 hrs. away so I couldn't do it). I had called her and told her he preferred that my mom did not come (because she takes all his attention), but just didn't want to say it and hurt my grandmother's feelings.
Anyway, I knew she didn't change her mind, but I think my call to her did help some. My dad said he didn't even realize they were there until half way through. So that means she didn't bring my mom up to talk to him and thus didn't upet his concentration. Which is great. And my sister showed up, and she said my mom and grandma didn't so anything to make a scene, so that's good. My dad said it went very well.
Thanks for everyone who gave me advice. I am glad I made the call, and I'm even more glad it worked out well for my dad.

Oh AmbiePam, that's such wonderful news to hear and I'm glad for you and your dad that it's over. And the best part is, it all went well, yea!
I can't even imagine how stressed out you must have been that whole night, just thinking about it all and how it was going at the lecture.
Good for you making that phone call, it must have helped quite a bit, and it's always good to give people some food for thought. I'm sure your grandma kept hearing your words in the back of her mind, and finally realized you were right all the time.
Very happy for you and your dad!

I am so glad that it ended well and that your father’s speech went ahead without incident. I was concerned for him when I read your first discussion about this. It is a difficult situation to be in. It sounds like compromises were reached an it all went well. I am relieved for you!

I am glad to hear that it all went well. I am sure your dad was relieved. It is just so hard to know what they will do and when there will be a commotion.

Oh, I am so glad that it all worked out. It was not so hard, once family became involved in the situation to help out.

Ambie, thank you so much for sharing this good news! Your situation, for some odd reason..touched me deeply, and like you, I was so concerned for your Father...and for YOU! I think it is the respect, and love you have for him, and the fact that he is so giving & understanding thru these trials and tribulations...and he has YOU as his biggest support! Vice versa! I am absolutely thrilled that this whole scenario did NOT have any glitches. Take care, Ambie!

It seems like it worked out well for everyone. Your grandmother was able to hear your father speak, your mother as well. Your father didn't even notice them until halfway through and it didn't seem to effect him at all. Glad it did go well. It seems like we as humans worry over some of the silliest things, but I understand your worry, just glad it went well for everyone.... AND no hurt feelings were involved.

If I hadn't made that call I'm pretty sure things would have gone differently. My grandmother always makes her presence known. This time to avoid drawing attention from my dad, they slipped in at the last second. That's not normal for her.

This is really a lovely discussion. I just love to read positive notes, and about people being able to help the others, with that help really helping. It is a good thing, and this really makes mylot an even better place to be, with the purpose of one supporting the others.

Dear AmbiePam thats great news you share with us here.
I wondered what would happen at that conference and I am really glad things went so smoothly in spite of the fact your Gramma insisted on taking your Mom with her to the conference.
Glad your Dad was not interrupted with his speaking and nothing embarrassing happened.
