To borrow, to buy or to download?

These days there are a lot of ways to get your hands on a book. You can borrow it from the library or from friends, buy it from the bookstores and you can even get the electronic versions. Personally, I prefer borrowing a book. I get to read the story and wouldn't have to worry about shelf spacing and where to place the book after I've read it. Also, if the story doesn't turn out to be one that I like, I wouldn't feel like I've wasted my money on it. What about you? Do you prefer to buy, borrow or just download?

Those who have the passion for reading books can not handle the need to read it either borrowed or bought or else from a library. Those who have interest in reading books if they have friends can share the book .If not if there is time then they can go to a subscription to a library. My friend has the hobby of reading ebooks, however i tried a lot to get or read some ,it was not possible for me,unless the book had really something interesting i dont go for reading.

Thanks for your response! I sometimes stop reading a book halfway if the story is not interesting too.

Books - Are best friends.
Yes me also ,not that really read the entire article of anything if it starts to be boring and not intersted. Some times the people who write go off their topic ,so at that time it becomes boring.

Well they have a very simple rule take the book and return it before a specific period usually a year or 6 months and get 30 to 40% back most of the college student use such stores to buy the book as after the term goes over there is no specific use of that book so it always better to sells those back as the other students can use is and same things goes with all other books too

Usually, I would like to go to library to borrow a couple of my favorite books. Lately, I would rather get it from internet, those ebook version, in PDF format. I would love the convenient of it, since I don't have to return them on time, otherwise, they will charge me for it. Now, I got this iPad 2, I feel much more convenience to read those ebook from this device.

Yeah having an ebook reader or an iPad and other such devices do make it convenient to read books. They're light and the can be easily carried from one place to another. Thank you for your response!

I nowdays download, i find that i get to view and read more compared to buying or borrowing. For one reason that the bookstores here are not that customers friendly, they will put a big note that No free reading are allowed, also they will sealed the books. With downloading i could have all the books on a go and i get to take my time to choose. Thanks.

Thanks for your response! Most bookstores actually do not allow you to read the book and I can understand why. I know some people who would go to the bookstore everyday and read a book till they finish it and not buy a single book. They regard the bookstore like a library. And the book they've been reading ends up getting creases in their spine and no longer looks new. So hardly anybody will buy that copy.

For books, I prefer buying them since I am the kind of person who loves collecting my favorite books. But I make sure to read all the reviews regarding the book before buying it so I will not feel that it's wasted that I spent something for a book. For electronic books, I prefer to buy and or download. I never delete them after reading, and it's all stored in my iphone.

Hmm reading the reviews beforehand doesn't really appeal to me. It spoils the story for me and how the reviewer interprets the story may greatly differ from mine. So I generally do not read many reviews.

i think, in fact, read a real book very interesting than read in komputer or laptop. But read e-book can be alternative if that book can't to buy or borrow to our friends, We can download at the internet.

Hmm. I don't think reading an ebook would be any less interesting than reading a real book if they're both the same books. And e-books also require some payment unless you're reading those that are not official publications like fan stories.

I'm lucky i dun like reading so i'm spared from all these problems.. lol :D My brother is fond of reading and he has lots of books at home. Those books are usually borrowed from the library since it's of not much importance to him, but just interest related. Whether to buy or loan or borrow a book, depends on how much u wanted it. Some readers can read the same book over and over again, while some only read it once and give it away. So it depends on u.. haha

I read some books over and over again too but you wouldn't know if you'll really like the book until you've finished it. Thanks for your response!

I use the library a lot. I have more than one library card, because there is a small library on my island and a bigger library on the neighbour island. I visit the small library sometimes, they don't have a lot of different books, but it is very easy to go there, because it is close to my home. I also visit the big library, because it is much easier to find some interesting books there and there are lots of books to choose from. Sometimes I buy some books as well and I have a collection of my favourite books in my home. I prefer to borrow most of the books that I want to read, because it would be too expensive to buy all of the books that I want to read.If I don't like a book that I have borrowed I just return it to the library, and I don't waste my money on books that I didn't really enjoy.

Wow two libraries. That's nice. You have more variety then. It's good that you prefer to borrow. You get to save your money and also save trees that would've been used to print the books. Thanks for your response!

I like borrowing books too. But for those bestselling authors I like to keep a collection, such as Mary Higgins Clark's books, Paulo Coelho's, John Grisham's and yes, J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter (although I only had the Sorcerer's Stone coz Harry Potter books are expensive, hehehe, but someday I'm gonna buy all the series!) For Mary Higgins Clark and John Grisham books I only buy them at book sales where it's cheaper. But for Paulo Coelho books I always wanna buy brand new ones, although just the paperback. You wouldn't be able to find his books in book sales anyway. I have tried electronic copies but it's hard to read one thoroughly coz I don't have a tablet. For arts and crafts books I like to buy even the second-hand ones because I like keeping books in crafts and arts even though there are tons of references in the internet. I just like the feeling of ownership and versatility that even without internet connection I can still do some crafts

I agree with you. It's actually better to buy some of the really good books so you can always reread it again at your leisure without having to borrow it. Thanks for your response!

I think that these days, if I want a book, I'm likely just going to buy it to tell you the truth. Granted, I might buy a slightly used copy of the book later on from a second hand store or garage sale if the opportunity presents itself. However, if I want to read a book, I want to have all of the time I can with it and I find downloading books to be rather agitating to me. Therefore, I would have to say that buying the book is the best thing for me. That is just how I tend to roll.

True if you buy the book then you can read it at your own leisure. There won't be any time limit for you to return it. Thanks for your response!

I rarely buy- I usually borrow from friends or from a library, since I can return it if I don't like it or borrow it again.. I only download if I can neither borrow or buy. I don't like downloading since I don't lie reading from a monitor..

Oh well I suppose if you can't borrow or buy then you have no choice but to get the e-book if you still want to read the book. Thanks for your response!

Personally, I like all ways to get a great book. Sometimes, I go to the library, sometimes I go to a second hand shop or I buy books on Internet. Others, I download them and I also ask friends to borrow me some of their books. The matter is that I love reading whenever I have time to read. So all options are great.
• Malaysia
25 Oct 11
True. All of the options are good. As long as you're able to read a great book at the end of the day then it doesn't really matter how you got the book right? ;) Thanks for your response!

I used to buy books, mostly self help books of financial, motivational and inspirational theme. After reading it, I would love to share it to my colleagues, hoping they could also get some insights like I do.

That's nice of you to share books that inspired and helped you. I myself don't enjoy reading self-help books but I don't mind hearing little excerpts of it :) Thanks for your response!

I usually buy books at yard sales during the summer. Right now I have such a stock of books built up that i haven't read yet, that I haven't bought books in awhile. Other than the twilight books. I wanted to read them and my so called sister in law wouldn't lend me hers. Every once in awhile my mom will give me books she's read.

I borrow from my local library all the time, it's saved me a ton of money and I've used it to write reviews so I earn money from reading free books. It's a great way for me to get books for free and still earn extra money.

I like doing all three. I like buying books and reading them like the old times. I also like borrowing some if I can't find one in the bookstore. I have tried downloading e-books as well and it was fine. It depends on your time or budget I guess.

I like to buy so I can read the book when and as slowly as I want to, make annotations, and come back to it whenever I feel like it. I also like having books in my flat: I feel like they contribute to the atmosphere. But the thing is I have too many right now, so I'm considering borrowing or downloading more.
• Malaysia
25 Oct 11
Oh. I like my book to look as though I've just bought it so I don't like to make annotations or any crease in it if possible. Yeah I have quite a lot of books now too and hardly any free space left for more. Which is also why I try to borrow if possible nowadays. Thanks for your response!

Practicality wise, I will prefer to borrow because it will save money. Or, browse it first in the internet, if I like the content, the story, everything in it, maybe that's the time i will buy that particular book for keeps.

I like to browse on the internet too before I buy or borrow a book. But it's disappointing sometimes if I come across a book that I find really interesting but can't find in any bookstore or library in my country. Thanks for your response!

I still going at the library and bring some books and depends which kind of book do you want is easy to download it. We can find thousand different book in the internet but have a book in your hand and read all the way to go work or go back home it's a different feeling.

Yeah a lot of people would love to read while on the way to and from work. That's why they made those e-book readers I guess. So people can buy e-books and be able to carry them around on a device that isn't bulky. Thanks for your response!
