10 for 10 sales, we get 10 items for $10. Sometimes that's a deal and sometimes

it's not. My husband bought 10 for $10 cake mixes. Since it's cheaper to buy the mixes than to buy the ingredients separately here, it's a deal. 10 for 10 when it's tuna, the first time that came out, it was not a deal, but it's getting to be one. Unfortunately many of the cake mixes are sugar free and I can't stand the taste of sugar-free stuff. Some of the sugar free stuff makes me go to the bathroom really fast if you get my meaning. Even the natural stuff like stevia tastes bitter to me. I thought cookies instead of cake would be a good idea. I looked up converting cake recipes on line and they say to cut down on the liquid. Either just eggs and butter or eggs and oil, but no water or milk. What kind of sales do you have where you live? Do you have 10 for 10? Do you like sugarfree anything when it has fake sweeteners in it? Have you used cake mixes and converted them to cookies or anything else? My favorite quick cakes are a box mix and a can. Like chocolate cake and cherry pie filling. You make the cake and then you put the cherry pie filling on it. Or a can of pineapple and a mix for upside down cake. For Christmas, I'm thinking spice cookies from the yellow cake mix.

our local tesco's has deals, especially during the summer on fruits, like strawberries, and you go in one day and its buy one get one free, then the next time its 2 for £3, then you go again and its another deal completely. they do this with other products as well, and you have to be a mathematical genius to work out whether they are a bargain or not, as they keep changing them.

We have unit pricing in my state. It's a double tag on the shelf. Let's say you have $1 for 8 oz and $1.10 for 10 oz and $1.25 for 12 oz. Next to each of the prices is a price per unit in a color (like orange color tag with black writing) that will tell you how much for a unit. So if the unit of measure is a quart (32 oz), then it will be like this: orange/black (unit price) white/black (price of actual item above) $4 qt.. .$1/8oz $3.52 qt. . .$1.10/ 10 oz $3.34 qt. . .$1.25/12 oz You will be happy to know my new friend that politicians and regular people in various areas fought for unit and item pricing to be on the shelves under each item. Yes, you may use this subject as a topic. Any questions?

I don't know, that might be something you could ask around or cleverly craft into a discussion. When unit/item pricing came out, it really, really made a big difference. Otherwise you have to bring a calculator with you. I had to do all the above with a calculater except for the 8 oz one. Sometimes we get people from Canada or other counties who don't understand the different price tags. So if I overhear them wondering, I will help them.

no questions, writersedge, but that is a very useful and interesting piece of information, that i shall file away in my brain for future reference, its a shame we can't bookmark a mylot comment, or maybe we can and i just don't know how to do it.

I don't care for Sugar Free items either. If you look at what the 'sweetner' is alot of times it is one that isn't good for us anyway. "Can cause cancer in lab animals" used to be on the packets of Sacirin. Ugh! My mom used to use the cake mixes to make cookies or cupcakes. We used to get red grapefruit for 10 for 10. Loved that! Don't even see them much anymore. Kids toys at the Dollar Store is about all I see for 10 for 10 much anymore.

Sometimes we get pink grapefruit here. That is to die for, I just love it. Yes, most are not good for you. But I have two really bad diabetics in my family who will not go without desert. I've tried making desert where you just leave the sugar out, but other than stuff made with pineapple (one of my brothers breaks out in cold sores and won't eat pineapple) or I made trail mix desert one time without anything sweet besides the fruit. There isn't much for recipes for them without the stuff. If they could handle real maple syrup or honey even, but they can't.

I can't eat most cake mixes because they have corn starch in them... only Krusteaz http://www.krusteaz.com/ makes mixes I can safely eat at this time. There have been times when other brands were safe, but not now.

I know, one of my favorite things they put corn in, darn it! I saw about the soups, finding corn free soup is quite the challenge - (we got several cans and after SPECIFICALLY telling the OTHER roommate hands off, she ATE them! now we put my initials on them to keep her hands off!

Good point! When my husband had thyroid problems (he's in remission now), the pills he was taking were blocked by soy. At first not many items had soy in them. Then it became the latest thing and then more and more items had them in. So it might not have something in it today, but an item could tomorrow or down the road,so you have to keep on looking.

I like to try to get any kind of deal that I can. I work at a grocery store so I know what the deals are for the most part, and well I work at a high end one too. I didn't know you could convert cake recipes to cookie recipes, but that sounds like it'd be delicious. I'd be afraid I'd mess it all up in the conversion though. I do like sugar free, but some things just don't taste good sugar free. Cakes? meh, I'm not sure, I've not had many sugar free cakes. Though years ago an aunt and cousin made cheesecake with somersweet, YUUUUCK!

I can't imagine sugarfree cheesecake, that does sound horrendous. If you've made the thousands of drop cookies I have, you notice that it's just less liquid to make the batter so when they tell you how to lessen the liquid, you know it will work. So at a dollar mix with a little egg and oil, be brave. If you can find dollar mixes in your area. Your grocery store is High End? Unless it's totally organic, I don't usually go to those and only if I have enough $ for organic. Who shops at high end grocery?

hi friend, we don't have 10 for 10 deals here ( at least none that I know of, besides I don't do the shopping). What we have are price cuts or what you call plus. it's like you buy this quantity and you get a plus or free. Certain things like pan cake mixes and sandwich spreads are convenient to use especially if you are gonna use it for children's lunch boxes so we have a seperate stock for these purpose, but for slow meals like "merienda"( afternoon meal) I still prefer it done the old fashioned way like tuna and mayo etc... cause you have control of the reins on what you would specifically like to do and how it tastes or certain ingredients that are not good for other members of the family ( i have a 79 year old mother to check what she eats) or what you have to set aside for future use. So we have both depending on the situation.

Very nice. Our family meal is at supper, at the end of the day when my husband comes home. I think it's good to try to find a meal that everyone can be together and eat things homemade. Whether it's breakfast, lunch, or supper, it's fine. we have to bring a lunch or buy at work here. Thanks and take care.

There are no sale like 10 for 10 here. We only have buy 5 get 2 free for some products, or if you buy whole sale then there will be ten percent discount. I haven't tried anything that is sugar free. I quite don't like it because I heard that it has after taste.

Buy 5 and get two free is interesting. We have not had a sale like that here. I think it's interesting the different kinds of sales in different places and I'm so glad that this discussion has done so well. 13 responses when I awoke this AM. this gives me a good knowledge of what goes on in other places. Often the deserts are all diabetic when we have big meals so everyone can have some. So if I want desert, I don't have a big choice. Right now I have 2 brothers with diabetes, when my parents were alive they both had it.

We do get ten for tens. We also get "buy ten and save five dollars." Mix and match any of the specially marked items. I bought 20 the other day. I had gone in the store to look for socks on clearance cause I knew they had some. It was not women's socks. I bought something with a coupon that was also buy ten save $5 so I decided to find what I could. In and among those twenty items, I went to the sock aisle and they were clearing out light weight socks, which is what I wanted. I bought twelve individual pairs of socks and with the savings ended up paying 59 cents each for them. I got black, white and brown. I do not like artificial anything. I would take any one of those cakes and add mashed up bananas and nuts if you like and make either a "quick bread" or muffins out of them. It will help cover up the fake taste of the sweetener. I would be tempted, now that I mention it to add a little maple syrup, some pecans, the bananas and a half cup of oatmea;. Spice cookies would be good as well.

The sales that people have around the world and in the states are quite interesting. I'm glad this topic "took off" (American slang). I would love to buy 20 pairs of socks for my husband and give him 5 pairs of socks at a time. The savings would be unbelievable! The problem is finding socks that fit him, so I have him buy his own. I have the same problem, finding socks that fit me.

Call me old fashioned, but I still make cakes from scratch. Maybe because it brings memories of my mother when I was young and I used to watch her bake. I come from a family of diabetics so I am used to sugar-free foods. But I don't like the sugar-free orange juice mix and cocoa. I still prefer the regular stuff. There are a lot of sale items here in groceries where I live but it's not 10 for 10. It's usually buy one take one items and you have to be aware of the normal price because I have found out that some sale prices have been marked up. When I calculate and find that there is little to no difference to the price, meaning I am not really saving on money, I don't buy the items.

Currently, I have no money, and not a lot of energy. So my husband is buying the food. Good advice. In our state, if you catch them jacking up the prices so a sale isn't a sale or if something is a continuous sale (like same price all the time, but they say SALE), our Attorney General will bring them up on charges. Michaels had a continuous frame sale. They would do frames for %50 off. They had that in the newspaper for a year. So it was not a sale. I forget what store put the prices up to double before a BOGO (buy one get one, they write BOGO here next to an item) and they were brought up on falsifying sale prices. Right now, we have no flour. I put it on lists several times. Has not entered the house yet. My husband gave me $40 for Thanksgiving, so I will have to summon the energy from somewhere and "give it a go" as some of the Brits say on here and on tv. Thanks and take care.

we do the 10 for $10 when Claires has that. these items make for great gifts for my daughter's friends. we try to go the the nearest outlet mall that offers this all year round a few times per year to stock up on gifts.

I have not seen that at our Claires and I would absolutely love it if they did. I use stuff from there to decorate, but the prices have gone up high for most things. I'll check this holiday season to see if they mark things down to about a dollar.

I think, writers...you are missing a huge financial opportunity here! Buy up a truckload of them...nip across the border into Canada..and make yourself a fortune...selling them to us a even a 50% mark-up...LOL! I have never ever heard of those kinds of sales here...really lucky, and find cans of Tuna at $1.29...mostly over $2.00! Cake mixes (which I don't use, don't like the Chemical taste, no matter how many spices I add) are always over $2.00! Your fortune awaits in Canada!

The Border would charge me or disallow much of it. Your prices are real my friend to keep your people employed. Our jobs are mostly gone to other countries. Many cheap prices are on the backs of illegal aliens. Be very careful what you wish for. Canadians have not been hit so hard with the recession and on the news one night they said, "Canada has much to teach the United States, but they won't listen." I soooo agree. Every country in the world has a piece of the puzzle, some have bad pieces and some have good pieces. But all voices should be heard. There has to be a better banking and realestate system than the mess that got us into this. I also went to islands during my visit to Alaska and island prices are out of this world compared to mainland. Most Canadians that want the sales come down here. As long as the weather is nice and the money is favorable, then they will continue to come. We just got your cold weather, 19 degrees F this AM. It's been 50F and then went slowly to 40 and 30 F, then this sudden cold chill. Take care, peace.

A lot of stores have the 10 for $10 sales. The thing is that you do not have to buy 10 items to get the deal. If you buy one then the item will ring up for $1. If you only buy 2 then it will be $2, etc. So many people get confused and think that they have to buy the whole 10 items to get the 10 for $10 deal. That's not true.
@writersedge (22563)

It depends, on most items, true, but on some it says, "Must buy ten to get sale price. Single items at regular price." Not many items are marked that way very often, so most of the time, you can just buy what you need and still get the sale price.
