This is NOT a landmark discussion! I'm sure some of her friends have missed her lately. Not that she's ever been that GREAT about getting on at times. Still, 4 weeks ago she spent several days in the hospital. Her cat bit her and she got a bad infection. The next weekend she was home, but when I came to work Monday morning, I discovered she had fallen the night before so I had to call the fire department to pick her up, I sure can't do it on my own. The weekend after that, she was at home, didn't fall, but was so weak that she only got to get food a few times. Then, on Wednesday last, she ended up going back into the hospital again for an infection. When she had been in there before, the doctor said there was something going on with her heart. Well, on Thursday, her heart rate went down into the 20s so they put in a pacemaker. She got out LATE on Tuesday, but she hadn't been out of bed since the surgery. I asked if she had walked before they let her out, but she hadn't. The nurse at the hospital didn't think she should be released. I didn't think she should be released. The nurse that came to see her on Wednesday didn't think she should be released. Well, she's back in the hospital. Despite the hit my paycheck is going to take, I HOPE they put her in a rehab hospital! Have you ever been in a rehab hospital? Did her a lot of good before.

Thank you for the update. Yes, I had been wondering about her especially after one of your recent discussions. I'd noticed she hadn't been commenting in myLot like she used to do. Please give her my best wishes. I'm all the time having to step around or over my cat and worry more about falling than about getting bitten. I tell her (the cat) all of the time that she's going to cause me grave injury. She follows me around almost every time I move. Prayers for Maggiepie.

Yeah, I tell my cats the same, got a slash on the ankle because one of the dummies was under my feet when I got out of bed the other day.

hi Elicbxn just thinking odd things that happen.since I came home here to Gold crest from the rehab I have had to use a walker. I get along pretty well. but this is one for the books.I was wobbling around putting dirty clothes into the hamper, whirled my walker around and get this, banged a wheel down on my big toe. oh nmy G I jumped around and hollered, and my roomie who is deaf as a door knob finally called"are you okay" I nodded yes but am I. we will see when I try to walk to my bed after my mylotting is over. the toe is already swelling but it just throbs now so hopefully its just a bruise not a broken bone. I feel like an idiot what a bizarre thing to do.

@Hatley...Now that it has been a while, how is the toe? I broke my toe after slipping on ice in a slick-soled new pair of boots one winter. Didn't have it seen to and ever since that toe has been stiff and the foot is wider than the other. Hope you are okay.

I was in a rehab hospital in the summer of 2008 following surgery. I wasn't able to walk the hall the way they wanted me to so I got pneumonia and after a week I was well enough that I didn't need to be in the hospital any more but since I couldn't walk as well as they wanted me to and I lived on the third floor without an elevator they sent me to the rehab hospital. I did get to the point where I could walk up a flight of stairs, but most of the time I preferred to not walk if they didn't make me. I hope that she is doing ok now and that she gets the treatment that she needs and isn't forced to go home before she is ready. Have a great weekend!!!

I'm sorry Maggiepie is still having alot of trouble with her health. My Mother had never been in a rehab hospital, she had rehabed in a nursing home. They will hopefull teach Maggiepie how to properly get up if she falls and such as well as build up some of her strength. My Mother used to fall all the time before she ended up in the nursing home the FD was tired of picking her up, though I will say her emergency pendant did come in handy so she could get help.

I doubt she'll ever be able to get up on her own, between her weight and her knees. heck, I have trouble getting up without something to lean on! I really hope she continues to work on her exercises after she comes home again.

That sounds kinda how my mother was in a way. She was top heavy/overweight from chest to belly and little legs to support. She gave up doing the walking she needed to do to keep her muscles as strong as possible. She'd usually fall when she was half asleep trying to get to the bathroom.

I haven't, but my ex went to one that did wonders. It was a trauma rehab center. Something really terrible happened to him and they had to reconstruct his face and he suffered brain damage too. I remember that after his ordeal, no one thought he was going to even make it but when he came out of the rehab hospital 6 months later, you could barely tell a difference in him. I hope she gets better soon and tell her we are thinking of her.

I don't want to sound morbid, but I it seems every time someone I love goes into a rehab hospital they never come out. I get a bad feeling about it when I know someone who has to go in one. Of course that is all in my head, it must be.

I know she and I have a lot of the same friends, so I just knew that a lot of her friends would see this and know why she's not been around. Might stop by there tomorrow, kind of depends on how I feel after the family get together...

There are a lot of people sent home before they should be, thanks to the insurance companies trying to watch their bottom line. Now, I don't mind a business making a profit but when you send a new mom and baby home the same day and someone like Maggie home before the nurse things they are ready, there's something seriously wrong with the system and it needs to be fixed. My mom was in rehab after she fell and broke a couple bones in her pelvis. It was a horrible experience for us both. It was supposedly the best facility in the area but I visited several times to find a filthy bathroom with filth on the floor from the person in the next room (shared bathroom). And there was a nurse that would refuse my mom her pain meds because "she might get addicted". What?! At 82 why would you worry about someone being addicted?! I finally had to go over the head of the nursing supervisor to get something done and even then there were several times I was visiting when she would get it late or not at all and I'd have to raise hell again. The nurses and helpers were overworked and understaffed and the patients suffered--I did a lot of her care myself, the routine things like laundry, changing bedsheets and cleaning the room and bathroom, etc. NOT a good experience for her and it was terrifying for me. I hope Maggie is put into a good rehab and gets better soon. She needs to walk or she'll get more problems. It could actually turn out to be a very good thing for her, I hope so. Tell her we're praying for her.

I told her to ask for one in town so I could visit easier. That thing about pain meds, they did that to my roomie's grandmother and she was in her 80's as well. COME ON! Worry about 20 yr olds getting addicted, don't worry about the elderly, even if they do get addicted, if they can live out their lives comfortably, then GOOD!

hi elicbxnwhen I came home here from rehab I still had a lot of pain in my injured knee and the rehab docto r put me on vicodin every four hours. well the third day back in the ev ening I went to our lay medical person for a dose of prescribed pain med, and she said why are you taking so many, not good for you I told her because I am in sev ere pain and they are prescribed every four hours. there I stood in severe pain and she is asking why I wanted the pain pill? I was 84 then and never have been addicted to any medication. so she did give it to me. I think a lay medical person should be picked out who has had some real pain in their life so they are not all cold hearted like that.this time in rehab it was wonderful. I was in the same place five years early with a shoulder joint replacement and it was horrible, the aids were surly the nurses were sloppy and I hated every minute I was there but this time they had to change all the staff, nurses and nurses aide in order to keep their credentials as they had been in trouble with the medical board. these people were all kindness itself and I could truthfully say oh my God what a change,it was not like the original place at all. everyone was kind and helpful, not surly and if you need pain medication it was given to you.what a change. and I was glad it was not like what dragon was talking about .

If the doctors had made her get up last time, she would've got right to the rehab hospital, but they sent her home before when she wasn't ready and she ended up going to the rehab hospital that time, I think she will again.

I'm so sorry to hear that she is still continuing to struggle with her health issues. This is really awful to hear. I personally have never been in a rehab hospital, but my grandmother was about six years ago after she fell down the stairs at her home and broke her hip. They were able to get her up and mobile fairly quickly with a walker and she really did continue to improve after she was released and was staying with us. Unfortunately, she did end up passing away about five months after her break as a result of an embolism.

Now that you mention it, I had noticed she wasn't responding! I was in the rehab wing of the hospital after my surgery and it was good because there was no way I could have managed at home. I think a lot of the reason they kept me so long was because I live by myself, so maybe they will send her to a rehab facility also. I guess a lot of it depends on the insurance, which was probably why she was released before she was ready. With any luck she won't have to stay there for a long time, so your paycheck won't take a BIG hit.

I'd rather the big hit than her coming home too soon. She was once before and she came home so much stronger than before, but she lost ground once nobody was MAKING her get out and do things. But she wasn't living alone then either, so she might be more driven to get out and get things when I'm not around.

I really feel living alone makes you do better. As you know, I am disabled and I do get a lot of help. The last time I went to therapy I was told she was surprised I was as mobile as I am. When you live alone you have to do things for yourself unless you want to wait for someone to come over. If you want a cup of tea, you have to get up and get it. When you live with someone else you can ask them to get it for you. When I came out of the hospital I had someone stay with me, but only for a week, after that I could do everything myself. I also had a therapist that came to my home. Maybe she can get something like that. Whatever happens I hope she will get stronger faster this time.

Poor Maggie. What a lot to have gone through. I hope that she feels better soon. I don't even know what a rehab hospital is, although I guess there's a clue in the name! We have convalescent homes here but they tend to be a pseudonym for "Retirement Home". Once in there's only one way out!

we call those nursing homes, but it is possible to get out of them... other than feet first... A rehab hospital is where they can give a person physical therapy but have more care than being at home.

Greetings to Maggiepie! Behave yourself and do what the doctors and nurses tell you. Being in the hospital is not fun. It is work. No, I've never been in a rehab hospital, but my neighbor has been and is still is there. His wife says they have done him a world of good.

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that she is having such a tough time! I hope that she will be doing better soon. I was wondering what happened to her, because I usually see her avatar around and have not seen it in quite some time. We both liked The Sentinel, especially Garett Maggart, and now I think of her every time I see a picture of him.
