year or during some kinds of celebration time of year. Like whole nuts including the shell are usually only this time of year, fresh cranberries are usually only this time of year. Egg nog used to only be in the spring or during Easter, but now I see it. Fruit cake is generally only this time of year and pecan logs here. So what kinds of things can you usually only get for food or drink either during this time of year or during celebration times of year?

Cheese logs and fudge. Those things don't altogether disappear other times of the year, but I never think of them until the holiday season.

I've seen recipes/directions for making cheese logs but I've never tried it. One of these years, I will! They are expensive, that's for sure.

I love candy cane pie. The one product we use the most is the special Coffeeemate Creamers daughter loves the holiday ones. Also enjoy special Oreos and daughter bought 2 packages.

I've never had candy cane pie. That sounds really sweet. Candy canes in general are not here other times of the year, so the pie, must not be other times of the year either. What are the special coffeemate creamers for this time of year since I don't drink coffeemate?

gee, egg nog is something I used to only see at Christmas and now sometimes at Halloween, I've never seen it in the spring or at Easter. I've only seen fruit cake this time of year, but cheese balls, that I only saw at Christmas as a youngster, I can now find year 'round. I think that is because people discovered they weren't that hard to make and started making them for other get togethers , and stores decided that they needed to make them so they wouldn't be put out of the cheese ball business...

Maybe they did decide that. Cheese balls are nice for any party occasion. Sort of a more solid dip that's easier to transport. I like the ones coated with nuts. That way I get cheese and nuts both.

Usually only the pre-made foods, like the fruit cake, but I honestly can't answer, as I never look for those, I make my own! As for cranberries...they are usually available here at the end of October, as Richmond, B.C. (outskirts of Vancouver) is the cranberry capital of Canada...and our Thanksgiving is always second Monday of October! Egg nog is now just surfacing on shelves...and raw nuts are always available year round with the shell at Health Food stores!

Well...that is all the more reason to come and visit...I could use a few good "make them myself lessons." I was just talking to my b/f on Thanksgiving about checking on my passport renewal.

I like to have sweet pickles for some reason. And I have the dressing and I fix banana pudding. I layer bananas, vanilla wafers and bananas. It is pretty good. Liked by all. I never liked that green bean casserole or some of the favorites you hear about. They don't taste good to me.

That greem bean thing they have on tv all the time, big salt lick. Give it to the cows and horses. That banana pudding again. Going to have to try some!

Pumpkin pie is one food that I really only have during this time of year...oh and I love that pumpkin pie. I have been a little peeved because McDonald's introduced a Strawberry Lemonade over the summer that I fell in love with...I know it doesn't have anything to do with this time of year but I was devastated when I pulled up to get one and they told me it was seasonal and there would be no more until summer. Don't they realize how far away that is!?

Someday you'll have to get a piece of land, put a greenhouse on it and "grow your own."

I know! I was fussing one day that everything I start to really like gets taken away. I just have to stay with the oldie but goodies. I can always find white tea with raspberry. At least so far.

One of my favorite treats available this time of year is gingerbread - either freshly baked or in forms like gingerbread cookies. My local grocery store's bakery section puts them out fresh only from December 1st onwards, and I look forward to it every year. I also love eating goose, although a lot of my friends think I'm crazy. There are only a few stores that sell it, but luckily I'm near one of them that I can enjoy my roast goose this time of the year. Finally, I enjoy buying candy canes and I find them so refreshing. Most people use them as stocking stuffers or even as decorations around the tree but I think they are the perfect desert after a big Christmas dinner!

Welcome to Mylot. I love gingerbread and gingerbread men, too. Candycanes are fun, too. Esp. peppermint ones. I'd like them after dinner, too.
