Maggiepie update

For all Maggiepie friends this is an update. Maggie has been very sick. She was ventilated 2 weeks ago Sunday and then this week they put her on a trachea tube so she could wake up. Now, she went back to the hospital 2 weeks ago in hopes they would send her to a rehab hospital, before she go so sick, and they discovered air in her chest - where it didn't belong. So, I'm laying in bed, recovering from my procedure and they call me to tell me they are sending her to the rehab hospital today. I mean... WOW! I really expected they would send her to a floor room before the rehab hospital... Her cousin was there when the transport people came about 5 - oh great - they are moving her in the 5 o'clock rush on FRIDAY! I guess that's better then sending her HOME at 9 o'clock! I hope she can talk soon, the tube in her throat was keeping her from talking... So, don't expect her to show up anytime soon, she's going to be there a bit. I am checking on her cat.

Thanks for the update. Things don't sound very good with her. Hopefully she will improve. Has she lost some of the weight? Did you think about bringing her cat in with your menangerie?

I hope she improves in a hurry, since I'm basically unemployed while she's not home... but I'd rather she get better than rush home. I hate to bring her good cat over to learn bad habits from my bad kitties!

I had been missing Maggiepie, but had not asked about her. I am glad they are not sending her home before rehab or anything silly like that. Tell her we are thinking about her, Okay?

We are delivering a paper route tomorrow- Saturday is the only day it is early morning. We have to finish in time for me to go demo at the grocery for six hours. Ugh. but it is money, and it will help pay the bills.

That's part of the problem, they did send her home from the hospital just before Thanksgiving instead of rehab. I'll probably go by tomorrow, sometime, I hope, and then I can tell her - I've got other things I've got to do there too... It'll be tomorrow or Sunday I guess... gads this weekend is just too busy!

The first rehab hospital they sent her to wasn't so nice, but then she went to a second one that was great - she wasn't real thrilled because they made her walk

I do seem to remember that name, but since I am over 8 months behind on discussions I don't know the details of the situation. I hope things got better for her one way or the other. I find it getting really scary for me over the last month or so between the swelling in my legs and the fact they tell me I have blood clots in my lungs and heart failure. I find it hard to believe how they decide the times to transport patients to new facilities, especially when it is rush hour on a Friday of all days! Are there any worse days? I guess right before a holiday weekend would be even worse, but not by much. I hope your friend made a quick recovery. Have a great weekend!!!

She's been out of the hospital now since mid-Feb. She is slowly getting stronger, but she's still not where she was last year. We are trying to get her a wireless router so she can get online again, until then, she's got a little laptop but no way to get online. She was sent to the hospital Friday a week before Christmas - so, it was sort holiday rush too!

Sounds almost like my Christmas, except I didn't go in to the hospital until Christmas eve and had a tube down my nose until new years! Not the best way to spend the holidays! I'm glad you said she was ok. I was afraid you were going to say she was gone or something. Now to see if I can get caught up on posts. Only another 1200 or so to go!

I was wondering how she was doing. She has been through so much! At least she doesn't have to worry about her cat. I guess it is better to send her to rehab right away, instead of putting her in a room and then just having to move her anyway. Did they discover why she had air in her chest? I hope they can help her!

I don't remember what they did from last time, too many sleeps ago... (like 2002 or 4 or something)

I haven't heard that they figured out why she had air where it didn't belong, I think baring injury, they have never figured out why that happens. Maybe so, sending her to rehab rather than a room, I'll have to check in with her and see what they are doing with her there over the weekend... Gads... I'm feeling very overwhelmed right now, maybe because I can't do anything for another bunch of hours...

A lot of rehab places don't do very much on the weekend. I was in the rehab wing of the local hospital and on weekdays, we had therapy 3 times a day. On the weekends it was only once a day. Maybe a rehab hospital will be different though. The reason at the local hospital was they weren't staffed like on weekdays, and a rehab hospital might be.

I guess sending her straight to rehab might be good news since she doesn't have to be in the hospital anymore. I certainly hope they know what they are going and Maggie gets better soon! Don't you work too hard and run yourself ragged, but let Maggie know we're all pulling for her.

well, its sort of a "half-way" hospital... less than a major hospital but more than a nursing home... and obviously more than being AT home with pt coming to her!
