I love to make nutritious food for my family. Normally, all people would not object to fried things or interesting items like ice cream or a cake. My interest and excitement really lie in presenting nutritious food totally disguised and presented attractively. Today I made such a concoction with soya chunks and brown bread and am mighty thrilled with myself. None of my folks could identify what was given to them and they liked it a lot. If only I had revealed that it had been made of soya they would have mildly protested at being guinea pigs. Have you made any kind of food in an undecipherable manner?

Hi kala, I thin it is a great idea to feed your family with innovative balanced food.I too love to experiment with food and thankfully my children are even more conscious about health food than I am.I have a weakness for ghee and my younger daughter looks sternly at me when I smear ghee on chapatis LOL...I make brown bread sandwiches using hung curd and any and every vegetable that can be eaten raw and it really tastes yummy ! I also make a huge salad using fruits, sprouts and vegetables instead of fried stuff ...But once on a while I do make fritters and vegetable pakorahs too...

NOW...dear Kalav...you are in my Arena! I am the master of disquise when it comes to foods of nutritional value..NOT liked! Or preferred! I make Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies with a whole head of Garlic and you'd never know! Key--mince (finely) and soak for 24 hours in a bit of REAL Maple Syrup! Tofu in sauces! Spinach hid everywhere! So let me caution you dear one, when you come to visit..the menu may not be as posted! I am so thrilled you are experimenting..the Culinary World is only as small as your imagination!

Be brave! I have NOT forgotten that you have asked for a couple of recipes...and will get on to that ASAP! At last minute, yesterday...I was "stood up," ..my dear God son forgot he had a date with me (for cookie baking) and made a play date with another friend! Made me relive my teenage years...LOL! It did give me time to re-think the baking we would do, so that we could bake more fun things...like PULL Taffee, which can be hilarious fun! Have a great day..dearheart!

:)... I have not done this, as my cooking skills are at basic level.. But I have been presented with such food by a distant relative everytime I visited her... LOL... and it is always hard to find out the raw material used to get the final product... I congratulate you on your cooking skills... It must be great for your family... :)

Oh yes, we often have to hide the veggies. I have some superfood drink mix and it is actually green because of all the vegetable powder in it (seaweed and wheatgrass and kale, etc) so I put chocolate milk in it and they say "Mmmmm, this is good!" and they drink it. Well, I put chocolate in mine, too!

food... Ice Creams.. Cakes... and I was away Dear Kalav I love to cook food and that does help me try and experiment. The most recent one was a chowmein and rice combo that I did and me and my wife loved that. healthwise, I am not allowed to eat many things and to make the medicated diet more tasty, I have to keep experimenting and breaking some rules at times

Wow, you are very good. I would love to taste your foods. I like to eat healthy, unfortunately there are not many restaurants serve those healthy foods in Bali, except vegetarian food, but they are expensive...

Hi Kala! I agree with you that innovation and presentation in preparing various dishes is very pertinent, else we get bored eating the same stuff. I wish I could be there to taste your special dish made of soya chunks and brown bread. I love both the ingredients and enjoy devouring them.

We used to eat idlis on Sundays and Mondays, tuesdays it would be Upma, wednesdays it would be dosas, thursdays bread, friday bread, and saturday it used to be dosa made from other dals. But the weighing scale didnt like that menu. So I deleted upma, and dosas. Instead of upma we have corn flakes, and instead of dosas, we now eat oats. Effectively, we have brought our weight under control.

The credit for innovation should go to my maid. She uses raw garlic in tomato chutney, which tastes great on bakery bread. I dont have to fry the bread. Just heat it a little and apply this chutney. It tastes almost like pizza, without any of those fattening stuff.

Some deception in cooking is required for good nutrition and good for you that you pulled it off. We all know that over the years women become proficient at it. Today's lentil becomes tomorrow's sambar is the way many households run in India. As for me, I have surpassed all of you women, beg your pardon, but it is true. As a construction engineer I spend most of my days away from my family and have to cook for myself. Believe me, I know all my vegetables and spices that go into a curry, but even I can't identify what is on my plate. How about that?

for the last sentence but you can never surpass us women in this innovative resourcefulness as far as cooking goes. I cana ssure you that. I am sure there would be other women supportng my statement.

I am more into exotic dishes as you may call them, creating my own chopping and changing existing recipes but what I learnt from my mother will not be touched. The last I tried was making ice cream with tender coconut along with its water. I did not add any flavouring nor colour.

Exotic dishes are easier to 'sell' as far as I am concerned. I add plenty of dry fruits to a nice spicy side dish and it passes off as some 'manchurian or navratan'. But , I feel more thrilled with disguising nutrition . And how did you like the tender coconut with icecream? I love tender coconut but separately.I prefer ice cream with chocolate sauce and caramel nuts. Earlier , in my own place, the coconuts were amazingly sweet ; the trees are more than forty five years old.

Malnutrition is one major problem in third world country. That's the reason why people need to learn how to budget their money in buying expensive foods. It is not also the reason for having the initiative to have a small garden at the backyards, plant seeds to obtain a freshly crops of veggies.
