Most of the time I will just buy the common fruits such as apple, watermelon, oranges and so on. But in these few years I found there is a new fruit called wax apple. The best wax apples seem to come from Taiwan. Have you seen it? Or do you find some unusual fruits in the market?

I haven't seen the white wax apple yet. If I see it here, I will doubt whether it is ready to eat yet

CT, indeed that fruit tastes very delicious, especially if you eat them with the asam powder. My family loves to eat them that way. But, sometimes it is really hard to come by those very sweet type.

wax apples or tambis or macopa is very common here in the Philippines. we even have one tambis tree growing in our front yard that is almost fifty years old. during the rainy season its fruits are very much like that in the photo you posted... very red and pointy and the skin is very shiny and when you eat it its very juicy and sweet but during the summer its fruits changes in shape and color and is not very juicy and sweet anymore.

yup...that is the advantage of being in a tropical country. all kinds of fruits grow on our very rich volcanic soil and we get to enjoy all kinds of exotic fruits all throughout the year. fruits that seem very strange for you are actually very common here.

Yeah youless, I could see this fruit every now and then for it's a common fruit available here all the year round. It's also called bell fruit for it looks like a lovely bell. But most of the chinese people here call it "shui yong" as it appears very much like an old earthen pot that people use to keep water There are two types of wax fruits available here. One is red in color like those shown in the picture in your discussion whereas the other is greenish or yellowish in color. Both of them are equally delicious. They are juicy and it's great to quench our thirst during scorching day There are fruits as well available in the local market here which I'm not familiar with. Most of them are wild fruits that I dare not taste even some of them look really attractive and tasty. But wild rambutan and some wild bananas look rather weird to me due to their darker color and also the bigger in size

Yeah, it would be more lovely if it's called bell fruit. You are right I‘h got confuse as well when I at sight of the word "wax". What come in my mind first was the wax melon or winter melon (dong gua) The skin of the gourd has a waxy look

My most unusual fruit is probably a kiwi that I have eaten. i have seen the blood oranges in the Co-op and they are lovely. We have alot of fruit stands around here in season and I pick up grapes, oranges, cantaloupe, watermelon, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. Love my fruit!

Hi Youless, it is a common fruit in my area here. Most of the time, we will buy and eat this fruit especially during warm weather. Some of them tastes very sweet and delicious. But, i do came across some of the fruits where they tastes a bit sour. So, usually we will put a little of the plum powder to it, before we eat them. It makes this fruit tastes very delicious. Is the price of this fruit expensive in your country? As for here, sometimes it is quite expensive to buy them.

For me a lot of exotic fruits are unusual, because we live in a colder climate most of our fruits are exported in from other hotter countries, so we don't get to see the wider arrange of unusual fruits that other countries have. To me I think the Star fruit is unusual as well as the ugli fruit. I don't fancy eating a wax apple, because that would remind me too much of artificial fruit that people have on show as waxed ornaments! I am not a great apple eater and prefer to eat bananas.

I think so. In fact I have a friend who comes from UK and one day he showed me the dragon fire fruit. He even doubted whether it was eatable.

I love to try new and unusual fruits. I sometimes go to a store that has things I have never heard of. What is a wax apple? I have tasted grapples which are supposed to taste a lot like grapes. I did not feel that way, but they were very sweet apples.

If not mistaken the fruit in Taiwan is called "Shui Lian Wu". This fruit can only grow in the hot country like Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and also Southern Taiwan. It is big, sweet and juicy with the better breed.

In fact this fruit is also available in the trees of some parks here. But we don't eat it. Perhaps we don't really think they can be eatable.
