Have you made real friends online?

A few years ago, I didn´t know this could happen. I started playing games at the computer and soon discovered it was a lot more interesting playing with real people than with robots as they soon became predictable. But the most some human bweings taught me was a new kind of online slang in English. I learned the lol thingy, the lmao and some polite ways when we were playinf poker (nh, wd, nj, ty, u2 and all that). My first online friend came from a poker game. He asked "where are you from?" the answer was silence except from me. He said he lived in Canada and asked whether the rest of the players had communication problems

. That started it. I loved the guy and one of the ladies in the room said that she had visited Canada but that it was too expensive. No comments!

You don´t go to other countries to smuggle unexpensive goods. It turned out that my fellow player and I had a lot in common. Since then I have learned a lot about that huge country. Then it was just a big part of the giant map of Northamerica. What is your experience with online friends? Since this beginning, I have lots of stories. I´ll tell them one by one because some are lovely, some are moving and some are just happy tales.

Morning, dearheart! Honestly, I don't spend much time on the computer, other than my mornings before work..so honestly have NOT, other than myLot, met any friends! I just find it incredible..that I met you, love ya, and that I am the second person in the province of British Columbia that you know! I told you about my friens in New Denver...WELL, I will be you, your friend would KNOW them...reason being, the wife, Julia is politically very active in trying to keep Cell Phone towers out of the Slocan Valley! She makes the news..often! And that area is small enough...!! You usually know everyone, in the next town..as the area is very rural....and very lush! Maybe things will change when we both get our laptops!!!!! Marguicha..I wince each time you say it is so expensive in Canada...it may seem so to some visitors...but us living here, it is relevant! Income versus outlay! Question; have you done any "laptop" research...I'm going to start, and I will share my info! LUV ya, lots!

Hi Shirley, I had a connection blaced by my bedside as the idea is to have fun with the computer while I have my feet up. But my brother thinks I should pay a bit more and get a wifi. I will check on laptops after my appointment to the doctor next week. I want that to end soon as I dread it as you can imagine.

I´ll take care of computers and some other things after that.

I was not able to gain real friends on games like you had from playing poker. But there is one Chinese girl who happens to have a FIlipino boyfriend whom I sometimes interact with on comments. We played lots of common games, like Pet society, Farmville, Sims Social and CityVille. We used to ask help from each other. She quit CityVille but playing other games still. When I got hooked with myLot I finally announced on my wall that I am quitting all the games I am playing. She commented and also said that she's also fed up of all the games. Now both of us are not playing those games but we still are friends on Facebook and sometimes I and her used to comment on each other status. Can't say that we are friends but I think we are okay still being friends even without those games on facebook.

yes. mostly because I join forums it takes time to know them better I am very cautious who I am friends with I want quality not just quantity, it pays off in the end

Most of my online friends are real. There is one I know from facebook. I found out that she lived in the same town. She wanted to go further into a relationship and wanted to meet me offline but since I realised that I was a married man, I was not brave enough to meet her. I just wanted to make friends with her. Though we didn't go further into a serious relationship, we managed to continue our online friendship.

Hi Marg, i get to know one close friend through Mylot. Since from the very day we met each other, we are always planning to have more activity to be done together. We even planned to do some online business together in future, if everything goes right. Just need a good planning and i am sure everything will be fine.Now, i am looking forward to get to know more mylotters, who are willing to be my friends. Hope you are doing fine there, Marg.

I´m glad that you have found a good friend online. I used to think that that couldn´t happen, until it happened to me. Of course not all the people I accept as my friends here are real friends, but I have some close ones and some that are becoming closer.

That was an interesting story. Well, we never know what life turns up. I was logged into skype one day and a friend request popped up. Out of curiosity I accepted it. It was a young guy from China and I have been friends with him for a couple of years. We have never met each other face to face but we chatted a lot online, send each other pictures and greeting cards. Finally we exchange mobile numbers and the year before last, I was surprised to receive a sms on my phone from him. It was a new year greeting! Since then, we have still been keeping contact, updating each other on new developments in our lives. It is amazing how we became friends just like that.

We have even sent us presents with my canadian friend. And I was moved some years ago when he phoned me when I underwent a surgery. It was SO thoughtful of him!

Oh yes, I have found some great friends, one is marguicha from Chile..

I also have at least three in Canada and in many other places. We learn so much from each other, so if we use the Internet right, it can be a real blessing.

I agree with you, dearest, about using the Internet the right way. I´m afraid the people who use it in wrong ways have found yet another way to not do what´s right. One hears things from realtion through the web (including illegal ones) but when there was no Internet those people found other ways. I remember when I was young we had pen pals from other countries. This is the same but easier.

Hi marguicha: I have conversations with the people of the forums, Mylot is just one example and I really have fun discussing things with my friends online. However I must say that I have never experienced a deep relationship with an online friend. I wanted to try, to have a friend whom I could care about and share our time together you know? I haven't have an online friend that I know from a game. But I have a friend online from chatting and haven't really met in person. Knowing other practices, beliefs, cultures of other people sharing with same interest is good. And it kills the boredom.

In my case my first friend came from a game room. But it has not been like that with all of them. If fact, the only real reason I keep on coming to mylot is for the friends, the knowledge and the fun.

To me, something like that happened about 10 years ago. I installed a program to chat only in Italy (I'm Italian), looking in my city (Genoa), I found a person with whom have immediately entered into friendship. When I proposed to meet really, she was initially a little hesitant, but then one evening she invited me to her house, and I also did meet her husband. We then revised at other times, I also met her with her ??friends. Then time passed, things have changed and everything is finished.

Hi marguicha... I have got lots online good friends. Most of them are boys. They are from different places. It is cool to know different people with different background and different culture and I learnt many things from them :) I like making friends online.

I have made a few good online friends and have gotten close to them through emails and phone calls. We have all yet to meet each other since one is in Canada, another in Georgia and one in Texas. It is really hard to travel so we keep in tough by phone, emails and cards through the mail. One day I hope to meet these three people in person. I am sure we will have a wonderful time visiting. When I think of MSN I think of news...never new that there was a way on that site to communicate with others. Since I haven't been online much, just the past few years there is a lot that I am learning about many different avenues on the internet. Hi, I can say that since I opened my professional page on Facebook I started to have sort of friends or followers with whom i interact regularly and I like this. Before when I was only relying on my blog I was giving informations but with little feedback or interaction, now I kind of know my readers and i know better how to serve them with my blog.

Yes I have, a few or so have been better friends to me than real life friends in ways. I have a few who email me whenever they can and have been there for me when I have had some problems, gifting me various stuff out of the kindness of their hearts, etc. Of course I do things for them too to be deserving of their friendship. I think if we met the friendships would remain too. I just haven't had the funds to meet anyone like that yet.

I have made a few real honest to goodness friends online. I have one frist who I have been friends with for the past four years. We meet on a chatsite and we just began talking and are greatest friends. We talk about alot of different things and webcam chat from time to time. He's a great friendandI am glad I met him.

Sure I've made plenty of real friends online. I've made one good friend here on mylot. Otherwise I've made good friends from other forums I have visited over the years. I have even met my hubby online, which today isn't very uncommon anymore.

I can't believe that I found some discussions of yours that I hadn't responded to. My brother married a girl from Canada (later divorced and married one from Taiwan). I have known several Canadians while I was living in China and other places also. It is really interesting what you learn when you get to know people whether it be online or in person or some other way. I have met many ovarian cancer survivors through online support groups and learned many things coming from many parts of the world. Unfortunately, not all of my "sisters" have survived, but many have. Thanks for sharing!

You don´t have to respond to all of my discussions, Deb. Some must be a real pain

. But I do like this one as mylot has helped me very much, specially during those months when I could not see anyone for fear they would bring other illness. You know that chemo doesn´t go well with natural body defenses. You have been my top suporter here and have become such a good friend that if you did not live to far away and money (and health) was no problem, I´d go and visit you

. I met online a friend that became very close. She was terminally ill and wanted to forget about it. So we played canasta online while we told each other of our lives. I still write to her widower.

Well, I guess the ultimate real friend that I've made from time that I've spent online is the fact that I met my husband through the internet ten years ago. However, I've also made a lot of friends through my digital scrapbooking over the last five years. These women are people that I've never been lucky enough to meet in person, but there are people that I can trust with the problems that I've had in my life and people that have helped our family out a lot through the difficulties that we've been through during this last year.

I used to play an online game where players fight monsters , do quests , buy new weapons and get stronger with the experiece they get. Once upon a time , I fought monsters together with a random player that was around and we had a nice cooperation. We became friends on that game and she always tried to follow me in the game , she said she loved me and it started to disturb me. Well , it went on , sometimes we hunted monsters together and I suggested her to add me on facebook but then she didn't accept it , she told me she just loved me in the game although we talked about many things... About here , on mylot , I really hope someday I will go abroad to the U.S.A and maybe we can all meet at a coffee house and chat for reall , but , untill then , I will have to earn some money to pay the flight so I better find a job.

I had more luck with the two friends I met while playing. With one of them we have our emails, are friends in facebook and we send presents once in a while. I had another darling friend that passed away. We played canasta and chatted until wee hours as she was in great pain at the end and had trouble sleeping. I still miss Sheila.
