i remember i was 17 my parents are like allergic to computers, I guess they belong in the typewriter generation LOL. I remember how my mom and dad cant type, My dad got free lessons at work and my mom learned cos all of her grandchildren. I got phone calls from my mom cos she and my dad wants to have a facebook account. Its the most stressful phonecall I received cos i have to tell them how to register, log in, log out and upload pictures. My sister brought them ipads and they were not unboxing it for 8 months, Until I gave them a visit. My aunt, who is the sister of my mom have the most hopeless situation, its so severe, she cant use any gadgets,c omputers and cellphones. she tried to used them but she really cant elarn how to use them. Are your parents updated to the latest technology?

My parents both know how to use the internet, but their knowledge is limited. They can send emails and search for information, but they don't know how to chat, use social networking sites, online forums, YouTube, online shopping, netbanking and the many other things that the internet has to offer. My mother finds it difficult to renew her library books online, so she usually calls me when she needs to do that, on the phone she gives me her password and the names of the books and then I renew the books for her. My mother-in-law has just started to use a computer. My husband and I help her and at the moment she is trying to learn how to write an email and how to use Facebook, but she finds it very difficult and she often calls us and asks us to guide her on the phone. She was 70 when she used a computer for the first time, and it is still a new world for her, but she is eager to learn more.

No my parents not ignorant of computer but yes when my daughters use the computer regular 2 to 3 hours then I told them to close it. I want to ignore more time spend on computer. Because I feel uploading, downloading songs means wastage of time.

if you cant stop them drom downloading songs, teach them how to do multi-tasking, make them do earn online programs while they download the songs. Multi tasking is possible with computers. or make them search info for their homework as they download songs.

copyright is at the bottom of the barrell in India's priorities, there are pirated CD vendors in the streets. Cops are not interested at catching Torrenters and downloaders. Only the pirated CD factories. No one goes in Jail in India for downloading.

I really wonder why its hard to tech my parents how to use computer, cos no one taught me how to use computers, the first time I encountered windows 95, I was surfing the internet all day long. and you know by 1995 I am only a little kid. the first time I touched a computer, I was already surfing the internet joining some message boards.

My parents are not updated. However, my dad has a cellphone and he knows how to use it. I'm also a parent and I know about computers and other gadgets. I had studied computer education during my younger days but it was not like today where windows is so easy to learn. I studied wordstar and it was hard because we have to use something like DOS to open the computer. During the advent of windows, I asked my sons to teach me but I haven't learned from them because they were impatient. They only say once without explaining on what to do so I enrolled in a tutorial school for this and studied once a week. I had only attended that school for a month only and I stopped and continued to study on my own.

It seemed like its natural for kids to hate tutoring their parents how to use the computer, I felt like having a heart attack on trying to teach my mom and dad at phone. They can use cellphones now too but they dont like those touch screen phones, those things intimidates them. I think during elementary My computer teacher taught how to use Lotus and Wordstar, those are complicated.

I know what you mean. I think the computer scares my parents because my dad will not even touch it. My mom has to use it a little at work so sometimes I have to repeat the same thing over and over again for her to get it. It must be such a phenomenon to them.

Hi, I have to say your mom knows more than mine.My mother is in her 60's and she's scared to try to use the computer. My daughter tried to teach her and she acted dumb about it. She thinks you have to be a scientist to know how to get on the internet. It's pretty funny. She doesn't even bother to learn or try it.

my mom is that stuborn too, LOL It took 20 years for her to be convinced to use a computer. she also have that "scientist" mindset before, she became determined to learn it, when I moved out and all of my siblings when abroad. Its just her, my dad and my nephews and nieces there. (my siblings works abroad and my parents keeps the kids) I guess my siblings are trying to escape parenthood by working abroad.... My parents were forced to use computers now as its their communication to me and my siblings.

Dear friend, I think I'm with my parents in a situation similar to yours. You have to know that my parents were employed in offices from the 80's and 90's, but with computers, they have never seen one. Then, not exerted themselves, as indispensably to the present day. Their two (I speak of my mother and father) have never wanted to be in step with the times, in essence, a stage of their culture in the field of computer science, he has never interested in both. I sincerely regret, but their generation was actually different than mine. I conclude by saying that however, in all ways, for everything, it's never too late!

My parents are technophobics for like 10 years and out of a sudden they try to catch up, I do admit getting annoyed of the phone calls they give me cos they have a hard time using computers but I give my best to teach them. My dad have a hard time to learn the most but he did improve but he still cant type. My mom just learned how to play Zuma, thanks to that game, she learned how to use the mouse, she still struggle with keyboards though.

I think both of my parents are in different situations. Of course, both of them aren't as computer savvy compared to myself and my sibling. And when they do encounter problems with a computer, thy normally shout for our names. My mother is quite competent with a computer and cellphones in general. However, she often wonders about some online environment and activities like downloading, updating and sites. she thinks that the computer and Internet have a general premise. However, she is quite competent with social networking sites and how they work. My father is a different story. Someone needs to be with him to assists in his activities and answer some questions. He is usually more familiar with typewriters and leaves the computer-related work to his secretary. Overall, they learn to use the computer but their lives don't revolve around it as I am. They always seem to peer on what I am doing online and ask a thousand questions. It is usually irritating but the advancement of their technology to ours is understandable. Not many adults can cope with the fast and emerging technology trends. Even teh young can only take one gadget and trend at a time.

I responded to this comic weeks, ago, why the heck its deleted, I didnt say anything offensive.... I have to repeat everything I said,.... My mom adapted to cellphones easily but she hates those touch screen tablet phones, she is so emotionally attached with her Nokia 3310. yeah I know that model is so old and ancient but she cant let go of it. My dad uses emails and social media sites only.

Both of my parents have facebook account. I made it for them so they can just use it. It's so difficult teaching them, especially my mom sometimes. Although now she knows how to login, chat, view photos, and comment to her friend's pages. The uploading part is a little complicated for her. So it's either me or my dad who uploads her photos.

I remember how much of a struggle it was for my dad and mom to type, teaching kids how to use computers is easier. I am happy that they can use it now but they still struggle and give me phone calls. I remember my mom panicking about a screen saver, she thought its a virus and the computer is broken.

a virus! My mom, when in Facebook, always looks on the right window. Asking who those people she's seeing. Remember facebook is suggesting people we can add, she's always saying she don't know those people and why are they there. Yeah kids easily learns using computer. My friend's 3 year old daughter already knows how. She just don't know how to spell many words yet but she can type already

My dad likes to keep up-to-date with the latest technology. His job entitles using a computer after all. My mother, however, still has a hard time using a computer. She barely knows how to operate it. I have to constantly help her with it. She's able to only use Microsoft Powerpoint and browse the internet nowadays. Even then, she still gets stuck when using them sometimes.

Hi! My mother knows how to use the computer but only the basics. When she was still working, she only did little computer work because she had people to do it for her. But it was still after a long while before she learned how to use the internet. She has her email for a long time now, though. But it was only yahoo that she knew how to use. When I made her a Facebook account she didn't know the difference between yahoo and Facebook. She confuses her username and password for the two sites! She even thought at first that they were the same! She used Facebook for a while but she stopped already. She doesn't even check her email anymore. She just wanna watch TV.

My mom is going to have her birthday next month. She will be seventy nine years old. Before she retired she was a reference librarian. She liked the people asking questions and she showed them where to find the information. It wasn't to her liking when the library got computers. She retired at age sixty five years old. She does own a computer or a laptop. She doesn't know much about computing. She is going to remain computer ignorant. She does not yet to know much about the latest technology. She likes books, magazines and television. She enjoys watching television programs in the evening most of all.

she likes it oldschool, I think. Its actually nice that some people still prefers books and magazines over websites and ebooks. Its a tradition that is slowly dying. They grew up not depending on technology so yes they can live without it and even if they learn how to use it the interest is still small.

Hiya captain You know at times it feels good to have worked as a Technical Support Guy at the Call Center My parents are no different. During early 1990s Computers started popping up here in my state. Prior to that, no one had any idea of what it was. So my parents know nothing about it. Today, they teach computers from standard I (at the school of my nephew, who is now in standard IV). My parents had hired one of my students about a year and a half back. But he had to leave as he got admissions into some college to pursue his Masters Degree..., and now the parents are on their own. Still unwilling to learn. But my mom has been trying to read and learn all that is needed to teach her grandson.... And I have been helping her. Dad has now a FB account - a cousin of mine had been here a few months back and had shown his account to dad wherein most of our other relatives are! That was enough to get dad opening his account and I have been his Tech Support. Though I too was forced to re-activate my account (I only learned then that an account with FB never gets deleted, it only gets de-activated), I dont do much there...

By far my mom and dad have emails and a facebook account. they were not interested with twitter. They always skype me and my sisblings. I dont know but my parents are sweeter in skype than in person. in person they always nag at me about my failures in life. if they remember a past mistake I did, They will try to scold me and lecture me. and they wanter why I moved out the moment I was 19 years old. My sister purchased my dad an Ipod and he called me and asked me how to put songs on it.It took him a 3 months to elarn how to do it. My mom, hates the keyboard, she is more comfortable with onscreen keyboard.
