I have just read an articles about the world's most expensive dishes. They were made by gold 24k or 23k. This is waste ! A small dish cost nearly a million dollars ! And they said that we can eat gold! Do you think it's right? Can we eat gold? If we can, will you eat a million dollars meal?

Yes, gold is edible inasmuch as it doesn't do you any harm to eat it. It is not digested or dissolved in any way, so it is completely harmless and is excreted normally. Special dishes served at banquets have frequently decorated with flakes of gold leaf. This was a common practice in the Middle Ages. Italians sometimes decorated risottos with flakes of gold leaf and the English sometimes decorated fruit dishes with real gold. Gold was (and is) also used in food preparation in Persia, the Mughal Empire and Japan. In fact, it involves very little gold and certainly does not cost anything like a million dollars. A New York City restaurant, Serendipity 3, set a Guinness World Record for the most expensive dessert for a $25,000 chocolate sundae. The frozen dessert contained five grams of 23-carat edible gold and was served in an edible gold lined goblet. It was topped with whipped cream and more edible gold. Edible gold is available from specialist and gourmet food suppliers.

Gold has been of medicinal value from time immemorial in India, actual the ash residue of gold, called "Suvarna Bhasma". Silver is more common on some sweets, as a thin foil and on "paan" or beetle leaf, which is taken as a mouth freshener after meals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paan

For real? Yeah I agree to you it will be just a waste. There are so many people in the world who needs help, instead of eating a dish with gold why not just give it to those who are in need?

That's right. Many people need gold or money to live, not to relax. So, I think that we should give to them.

I doubt that we can eat gold and use gold for caring our beauty. I don't think it is worth even though we have to spend much money for it. I rather spend money for traveling or the others things else than enjoy a dish with gold cover...lol..

Yep its true, you can eat gold, I have tried a little bit before at a wedding meal. I thought it was fake until later my husband a trained chef told me that it is actually gold leaf. Its non toxic to us so we can eat it, also silver leaf. To be honest I still rather have sprinkles on my pudding than gold ..hahahaha

Ya, you can eat gold leaf because it is too small enough for you to eat. But even right now I haven't seen any documents/book that proves gold is very good for our health yet. I still doubt gold effects for eating and caring beauty.

If we eat raw gold it will be excreated from our body, but in Ayurveda there are medicices made from gold, gold is burnt thousand of times in special ovens, this becomes oxide, it is called 'Swarna-bhasma' meaning ash of gold, this is used as medicines.

I think That we can eat gold mans that we can eat dishes as expensive as gold.In fact i don't believe there is a dish worth gold unless it is made of cold. Those who eat these kind of expensive dish must be luxurious, and i don't want to eat it,i would rather use the money to the poor and those in need.

I would not eat a meal worth a million dollar. I think that money could be used for more important things. Such as helping the poor. I think they should give the money to charities instead of making million dollar dishes. I guess some of the rich could careless about helping others. Best Wishes!

I think million dollars is an exaggerated value for that for. As far as i know, gold can be eaten but not the gold bars. Some restaurants offers dishes which contains very small thin sheets of golds and it cost thousands of pesos here in the Philippines. Gold can also be use in beauty products, isn't it? If you try to research more, gold can truly be eaten and is added in expensive dishes in some 5 star restaurants out there. In addition, there are also chocolates which has gold in it. :) . Do not worry, cooks cook dishes to people to smile, not to die so it is perfectly safe.

I have seen the similar from TV. And it seems they are Japanese food and they use thin piece of gold as the decoration for the food. It will just make the dish much more expensive but I don't think it will have an effect on the taste. Actually it is not necessary. I don't think it is good to eat the mental anyway. I love China

Whoever owns these dishes must be looking for things to waste money on. There are a lot of people that could help relieve them of their money, including me!

Only people who have nothing to spend on their money are able to afford this kind of foods. I have seen on TV icecream with gold powder toppings and cake with edible gold decorations. I saw Paris Hilton ate the icecream.

I also heard and watched news on TV about foods which contains gold. I really think it's such a big waste of money! If we'll just eat it, then that means, we'll just extract it from our body after a few hours so that money will be just a waste. It's is much more worthy if only that money was use to spend on charity.

I don't think this is true. Gold is a metal and it is a solid. How a human being can eat it. If he eat it he will surely effect him. I don't think this is true. What do you think ?

Yes, in fact we can digest certain karets of gold. My brother was recently a VIP at a casino and got to experience the life of the luxurious for free. He was given 24k gold dusted strawberries for desert. He said it was delicious, and why not eat it when you would be able to say that you were one of a few people in the world to eat gold!
