again i started having a bloody nose this morning. my son says its probably the dryness of the air conditioning being on so much in this dry hot weather here in AZ as it gets up to triple digits every day now and theres not much rain here ever! Ive figured out a little tip. I knew those little packets i save from fast foods would come in handy some day. you know the McD's ketchup, etc. I keep them in a zip lock bag in the frig. I hate using ice, as it melts all over. anyway, I had looked up some of the advice of what to do. ive never had so many before, bloody nose that is. it said apply ice at the base of the nose. so I happened to think of the cold packets from the fast food places and folded one of them, and held it there. it helped and ive went through 3 now. think i might have it beat again. have no idea why im getting these all of a sudden about once a month, but thats a lot for someone thats never had them. any suggestions? have you ever thought of using those for other things like that? the packets. ?

When it gets hot and dry I get the bloody noses too. I think you have a good idea. I usually just grab whatever is in the freezer that is small enough to work. Usually a bag of frozen vegies works too. No, I haven't thought of using the packets for other things. Nose bleeds can be caused from injuries to the nose and are usually more common in the Winter because the air is usually drier. Medications can also cause nosebleeds. Upper respitory infections cause them as well. Just some interesting info I found on the subject.

well the frozen veggie packs are to big to stick right on your nose base comfortabley so its why i thought of the little packets of ketsup.

Its a good idea. I would just put the veggie bag on my forehead so it come down that far. But the packets would work better.

I recommend saline solution you can get from CVS or Walgreens. It will moisturize you up there and reduce the nosebleeds. My sister and I used to have them all the time because of the weather. The dryness was killer. My doctor also said once in a while you could lean your head back, and sprinkle a couple of droplets down your nostrils, with your head tilted back.

it is the dryness-when i lived in tucson,i got bloody noses too. what i used to do,was wet a q-tip,and just lightly wet the inside of my nose.it sounds gross, but it helps substantially.

Hi bunny, we had also experienced tremendous hot. I compelled to buy an air conditioner. But now Monsoon started. It is raining. The temperature brought down. Now we are feeling some comfort. But we need more cool weather. My wife suffered heat allergy. Her hands and under arms covered with small moles. I connected a small electric fan at our kitchen as she spends most of the time at kitchen. Now she is under treatment and recovering. I hope now you are in better condition.

I think that the only time that I have ever gotten a bloody nose is when I was hit in the nose with a ball, but I have seen other people get them, and it looks very scary. I also have heard that dry air can cause them, but if it keeps happening, then you should probably talk with the doctor again just in case. As for those little packets, I think that was a neat idea to use them like that. We used to save them up, and when we went on picnics or things like that we would take them with us and use them rather than having to bring a container with ketchup, mustard and relish.

Hm I have never heard of using ketchup packets as little ice cubes before but st least it works! I used to get bloody noses during the summer all the time when I was a kid. However, it is not a good sign for bloody noses to start all of a sudden and happen frequently. Could be you have a sinus inflammation or something more serious as cancer. Not meaning to scare you but if it keeps happening you need to get it cartelized and look its it being a possible symptom of a bigger issue.

Neat idea. I have always heard to use frozen veggies, usually they say "peas", but for a small place your idea is great. A couple of suggestions for you. . . my doctor recommends saline nasal spray for many things, including bloody noses. My hubby used to get them lots. Doctor says when that starts happening he can se the spray up to ten times a day with no harm. The other thing is that taking vitamin C is supposed to strengthen your capillaries. That also helps my hubby.

thank you. i just had a conversation with my son about that and he said you are absolutely right. in fact he said before that he uses this sinus spray himself because his nose gets to dry in this heat he works out in. great advice

That sounds awful Bon, I wish I could help but I just don't know. I would not be messing about with things though because I reckon that many nose bleeds is not normal. Better see the quack as soon as you can. Meanwhile, I looked up a site for you...have a read here, you just might have your questions answered: http://www.medicinenet.com/nosebleed/article.htm

Oh I'm sorry for what happened to your nose I hope your all fine now. I have a ice packed that has a gel inside I don't know what are those It is like a silicone to me because it is soft hmmm what ever. Maybe it is just because of the weather my niece is also like that when it is summer and if she stayed out for too long.

those are wonderful. the ice pack gels. my one client used to have one of those soft things you could either put in the freezer for cold or throw in the microwave for a few seconds for warm! great idea.

I can't say I've ever had that happen but my skin was like a lizard's! We just aren't meant to live in such heat. Do you have swamp cooler (evap) or A/C? If you have both and it's dry enough, turn on the swamp cooler. If you don't have one, put bowls of water around the house. It's cheaper than buying a humidifier. A lot of people get nosebleeds because of the dryness while others, like me, suffer with dry and itchy skin. I feel so good right now--my skin is soft and smooth, my hair is soft and healthy. I know what I finally move back there to be with my sons that I'll dry out like an old prune and feel like crap.

well i sure hope not! maybe if you move back we can meet each other at some point. i really miss Ohio. its where i was born and raised. so no wonder huh? anyway, yes we have the air conditioner and right now with so many people in small rooms it runs often. nearly all the time this time of year. no swamp cooler. but plenty of water bowls around as i have coco and worry over she might want water and if one bowls empty she can go to the other one. see, we take good care of our little girl here. lol.

Sounds like something u need to ask the doctor about. That is not normal. do u keep a close check on your blood pressure.I would have never thought about the packets if i had any which i don't. I don't eat out very often.

neither do I. thats why i keep them in the frig so they dont get so old quick. but the kids eat out more then they should im always telling them thats where their money goes some more then should anyway. i mentioned it to the doctor a couple months ago and he just said its probably the dryness. you know how they pass over things if you dont get pushy about them.

Wow..that is a creative use for those packets..lol..I would have never thought of that. I would be freaked out a bit if I started getting a bloody nose too. I have known children to get them quite often but me or my children never got them. Maybe the next time you go to the doctor, you could just ask them why you might be getting them. Take care.

ive talked to him but he just says its likely the dryness of this hot summer here and get a nose spray. yes myself or my family have hardly ever been prone to bloody noses thats why it freaked me out so much.

hzi dear bunnybon hope you are much better by now. I never had a problem with nosebleeds but my husband does so I know how you feel and how nasty the whole thing is. He seems to have a dry nose too and uses salt water for relief. I will tell him about these condiments packets for emergencies. Thanks for this really good suggestion.

oh, so sorry to hear this bunnybon! the psychoartist has been through this sort of thing as well, and always found it very distressful and embarrasing...when i was a small child i always got nose bleeds in school and was very shy, so it was horribly embarrasing to bleed all over myself and have to leave the class and wait what seemed like an eternity for it to be over...as i grew older things got better...i have always had allergy problems and so sometimes will still have nosebleeds rarely, i take allergy medication every day and every night...but i also will get horrible nosebleeds if i am suddenly overwhelmingly upset by or scared of something, so i have decided that the nosebleeds i had as a child were the results of stress...is there undue stress/stressors in your life, or allergies or both? if so, maybe you could determine some ways to help with stress relief or allergy relief...i hope this gets better for you bunnybon! i certainly empathize with you!

go to the pharmacy they have saline solutions that can help. or getting a humidifier for your home, or even a vaporiseur to add moisture to the house.

thanks winerose, thats a smart idea. its just what my son told me just now and its a great idea. i knew about the humidifier because my son has one in his room but i have to be careful not to get to much moisture in my lungs because of the emphezema. but lately im thinking thats not so bad any more either as since i quit smoking its a lot better to breathe
