Hi.. I live in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia and now is dry season here. Very hot and lots of mosquitos. Many sleepless night because of mosquitos' bites. So itchy and some times, I awake because hearing their sound. SO annoying. Do you have some experience with me? How to chase away the mosquitos? preferably with herbal or traditional way. Please share :)

I am fortunate enough to live in a country where we do not have mosquitos, which is a real benefit in my opinion. I cannot remember ever having even seen a mosquito, although I have heard reports from many friends of having problems with mosquitos while on holiday. This is definitely something that I would not enjoy experiencing and I hope that I never have the misfortune to encounter any.

It's a worldwide issue and almost all the countries have tried their best to eliminate from 100s of years and even after there are 1000s of preventive measures are around, we all are suffering from mosquito and it is too late to find out a better off solution for it. However, the best harm less solution is use mosquito nets while sleeping. Get the large and big ones and properly tie somewhere so that it won't bite from the sides while we are sleeping. If

.... They are so smart enough to enter into any closed homes. I have made as much closed all the windows and netted windows and did my level best to ban the entry into the home. Still, they will somehow manage to enter the room and will remain hiding somewhere and the moment we switch off the lights and then they will start their feast. We feel that the mosquito also got the hi-fi training to deal with the people. Whatever the repellent or any kind of preventive measure we use, they have the power to overcome the situations. The other useful method is use the electrified bats which are now available and the plus point is that we can kill them and we won't get the disturbances much of them. Anyway, whatever we do, we cannot escape the bites once they enter into the room. The appropriate measure is that depend on the mats which can prevent to enter inside the place where we are sleeping. But need to be careful that we use the mats properly and need to be sized enough to get adequate airflow inside the area.

If you look on line for bed netting you will find many resources. Here is one link: www.bedbathandbeyond.com/1/3/bed-netting There are many others also. I hope you find one. Mosquitoes can carry many diseases. Nasty little things!

Yes dear mosquitoes, my mom was calling them the cousins are here ( mean same blood then ours you know). So what I usually do to make them go away is to put on my ears tee tree oil all the ear lob and all around in the the back of it too and they don't bite you when they smell it. That what I used. Hope it will help you.

Does it work? I wonder if that would work on fleas. They tell you to bath your pets in Tee Tree Oil if they got fleas.

As well as the Listerine mentioned above I have also used Neem oil. It works well and is all natural. It comes from India. A good way to stop the itch if you've already been bitten is to wet the bite with water then wet an aspirin and rub it on the bite. It leaves a little bit of white residue on your skin. Don't rinse it off til later. It should stop the itch right away. I like this because I am a scratcher and the next thing I know the bites are bleeding from me scratching. Blood streaming down my arms from mosquito bites is very unattractive! When I go to Maine the mosquitoes up there are somewhat aggressive and large. There is a rumor in Maine that the mosquitoes are so large they have their own hangar somewhere. They even have humorous postcards depicting this scenario.

what is Neem oil, deazil?

It is from the Neem tree in India. It is used in Ayurvedic medicine and you can buy it in a cream or oils. I don't like the smell of it but it's very good for many different skin problems and bug repellent. It has other uses, too, but I'm not sure what. The kind I buy is in a jar and does not smell much. I had some Neem oil in a small bottle but hated the smell of it! It can also be used to kill the mosquito larvae, but I think you have to buy it specially made for that. It is very good stuff. I believe much in Ayurvedic and oriental medicines. If you would like to read about Neem oil here is a link: www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neem_oil It's very interesting. Hope you have a great day!

I have heard the best way to keep mosquitos away is with dryer sheets. You know those little sheets you put in the dryer to keep your clothes from getting static cling. I have heard to lay they around the house and they will keep mosquitos away. I have also used "Listerine" antiseptic. It is a kind of mouthwash that is sold in the states. Put it in a spray bottle and spray it around your area and it will keep mosquitos away. I know that one works as I have tried it. Happy swatting!

Yes. Listerine works very well! I got that tip from some hunters. I guess they get plagued pretty much by mosquitoes. I figured if they use it, it must be good. And it is. It's the only thing I use now.

There will always be a solution for every problem. Mosquitoes are no different from any other pests. There both electrical and mechanical types of mosquito traps. You can check online for them.

I haven't had any mosquito troubles but there have been some in the area with one case of West Nile Virus. I am originally from Texas and my sister lives in the the Dallas area where they have had a large problem with nine deaths, the last I heard, from West Nile. They have started spraying from the air at night there trying to fight the problem. Here they are saying to try to prevent standing water and things like that where the mosquitoes bread. Maybe you should try that.

Hello welcome to mylot and thanks for sharing, yes mosquitoes are menace every where, not only in your country; the mosquito repelling coils, liquids, tablets produce a vapor that has the same chemical; but the present generation mosquitoes are resistant to that, even DDT is no more effective, herbal creams that has sandal and turmeric is good. Try this or burn incense sticks

Amandaputri In Chennai we have a lot of mosquitoes. When the outside temp is nearing 100 deg. f we have less mosquitoes because they cannot bear the heat. When the outside temp is between 90 to 100 we get a lot of mosquitoes. We use mosquito repellents-- Banish--Goodwill--also switch on the AC so that mosquitoes hide themselves in cold.

In my experience, the herbal ways of dealing with mosquitoes don't work very well or last very long, unfortunately. I like to use fresh basil rubbed on the skin, but mosquitoes can be very persistent. I read something recently that said catnip was good for warding off mosquitoes, but I haven't tried it yet.
