So angry with my bank, someone stole from me.

A month ago, I deposited a couple of cheques in the bank, thinking nothing of it. I do this all the time, so why should I worry right?
Not so this time. The day after putting in the first one, I find that the funds are on hold for a day. This made no sense.
Then 2 days later, the second cheque was put on hold for a week. And suddenly, the first cheque amount has been taken out of my account, with no information about it.
I went from branch to branch trying to figure out what was happening. The issuing bank said there was nothing wrong with either cheque, both cleared that bank, but my bank refused to clear one of them.
None of us could figure this out, and as of today, the "problem" cheque has still not been returned to me, and there have not been any issues yet on this issuing bank's end.
So, still, my money is in limbo and no one wants to help me at all with this, and it's getting frustrating.
I have now threatened legal action if they don't get to the bottom of this. In addition to that, I will close my account if they don't smarten up and soon. 11 years with that bank, I don't need this at all.
I've had enough with this bank, I don't need to put up with it, I shouldn't have to.
I'm still waiting for my money, a month is far too long to have to wait for someone to clean up the mess they made.

sad to say, looks like somebody got into your account, anyway do you still have the deposit slip when you deposited? was it a crossed check? banks have records of all transactions so better check again, if you are not into online banking then you can see all your transactions that they issue and mail on statements, don't know bank laws in your country but here, they seem to send it every quarter.

All of my banking is done online, and they refuse to understand the fact that they did something wrong.

That is how we knew our accounts we're hacked we had online banking. Make a copy of your online banking of everything that proves this.

if it's online then the better cause these would be printable or screen shot, online transaction data like when the check was deposited, cancelled, etc..etc.. then this could be good cause for argument without necessarily going into legal action for the moment but would still be hard evidence in case you decide to do such later on

Wow, yeah a month is definitely too long for you to receive your money. I totally agree with you that if they don't straighten things out that I would first yep, get legal action and then I would go to another bank. It is so sad that they are not even willing to help you or even admit that they made a mistake somewhere or at least agree that someone has taken money out of your account. Really these people need to have better customer service. What did they say when you told them that you were going to take legal action and that you would cancel your account if they didn't fix it? I hope not another excuse or whatever.

I haven't heard back from them yet. I had sent them a message the other day stating that I wanted someone from upper management to contact me, but when I logged on this morning, no response was received from them.
It's too bad that they can't figure it out.

yeah but sometimes the legal action would be tedious and would cost more than what the check is worth, that is if you are looking for reform or justice instead, guess the best way is still to coordinate with the bank and dig into details without necessarily going to legal action and if you can fix it from there then so much the better

Wow and you deposited the check with a Teller? Don't the Bank have a record of the check somewhere and a scan of it or something? If you handed this to a Teller it does not sound right, but at the same time did you get the check from someone you know as there are a lot of SCAMS going on with Fake Checks and especially money orders.
Hope somehow someone can help you get down to the bottom of this.

They should be paying you interest on your funds you cannot use. They will not do it though. Banks think they are bigger than all of us.

I agree with you, that's why I don't have a bank account. I remember when my husband and I were on the truck, we went to bed one night and we checked the balance. The next morning we woke up and had $300 missing. Sometimes if you withdraw money it takes time for it to show up, but then there are times when it is taken off right away. Makes no sense to me. Hope you have some one to resolve your problem for you instead of putting the blame on you.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I hope it is fixed soon. Do you have a receipt of the amounts that we're deposited into the account? If so they should have to refund you the money. Me and my husband had our accounts hacked last year and the person that did it also had a account through the same bank. The bank was able to get us all our money back. This guy that did this to us got 6 other people as well.

How can it be your fault if it was a transaction issue. I say you need to get a lawyer on this. None of this is your fault it is there fault hang on to those receipts you're going to need them.

Have you called and talked to or gone in to see the place where the checks originated. There may be nothing that the bank can do. It may have to be done at the other end. Perhaps they could re-issue the check for you. And they can see at their end what happened. I would contact them.
