hi this should be under diabetes but could not find that interest and gave up.As most know I am a type two diabetic. I tested a little low at my snack time last night so I went a little heavy on the chocolate peanut butter cups and on my crackers and cheese. so about ten I tested and I was 190 high so I exercised and in the'middle of the exercise I fell fast asleep. at three' I woke up chilled and my bedding was soaked with sweat., I tested and oh my I was shaking only 44 so ate three of the cholate covered peanut butte cups and went back to sleep. Now I am puzzled why did if drop so drastically from 190 to 44 and on top of that I never even got all my exercise in.your take fellow mylotters?I was 107 when I got up at six am.baffled.

i cannot answer your query but being diabetic myself i do have to say that you need to seek medical help with this. as you well know diabetic symptoms are not to be ignored you do it for me and get professional advice. On a lighter note, i play up on the dangers of diabetes with my wife. if she wants the grass mowed i will say that i cannot do it as i have diabetes. then i tell her "the clue is in the first syllable of the word"

my wife knows my sence of humour so i get away with nothing. the 'di' comment has become a bit of a catchphrase in the house. my son says it before i can when she asks me to do something.

Hatley, I worked with a client for three years that if we did not wait the full two hours after she finished eating, she would test high, take insulin, and then be very down the next morning. I am really wondering if that 190 was too early a reading. Of course I do not know your testing protocol. This young lady only tested before breakfast and then two hours after supper, because she had gotten in such good control. She only ever had insulin if she tested above 176. I had one staff that was lazy and always wanted to go home early and would test her at about 1 hr. forty five minutes. At that point she always read high and the girl would give her insulin and go home. I also worked for a short time with an extremely brittle client. Some said he had sweets hidden in his room, I do not know. I was day staff two days a week. I came in at 8 and his staff said, "He is 480, I am not feeding him." I of course said he had to feed him so he could have his fast acting insulin, he always ate sausage and eggs. By ten thirty a.m. he said to me, I do not feel good . . .he had dropped to 48 in just a little over two hours. No exercise, no drinking extra water. We never knew why. He is a young man with too much mental difficulties to be compliant with any protocol.

Oh my, you need to be careful and make sure you tell your doctor this. As for the interest, you could make your own, I did that with writing "fiction" so when I write about my book, I won't get "nonfiction" advice like I get sometimes..

Perhaps you are coming down with something that is affecting how you process your food and insulin. It could be that the chocolate peanut butter cups have more carbs than you realized and they burnt off quicker, causing you to crash. Is it possible you had not waited long enough to test after your snack? Do you take a long acting insulin at bed time? I just do not know, but wish I was there. I am glad your cold sweat woke you up, because 44 is way too low.

no gardengerty I am on three pills andI am guessing may be one too many bu t yes I am afraid the chocolate peanut butter cup over did it as I could use reeces and that was okay but this was super sweet and reeses are not so I crashed., thats what I was afraid of., it boggled my mind that the staff do not keep anything for low blood sugar here so you are on you own,.I learned to keep well stocked with things I knew would bring my blood sugar up faster.yes I seldom go that low.that was scary for sure

I'm thinking chocolate peanut butter cups are a bad idea for a diabetic, young lady. But hey, you've made it this far in life, I'm pretty sure you don't need us to tell you what to do. Just make sure you take care of yourself. We can't do without our Hatley.

hisinful rose if I take a squ are of 95 percent dark chocolate it will not raise it but lighter chocolate has much more sugar in it and milk sugar is worst of all not for diabetics at all.

As I've suspected. I always drink hot chocolate from cocoa more than from powdered products of the market. I still get energy however, the taste is too bitter for me to handle without some non-dairy milk. I was advised to drink hot cocoa every afternoon because I have need of its fiber.

Does chocolate on its own, I mean the pure cocoa form, affect blood sugar? I just wanna know.

If blood sugar is anything like blood pressure maybe I can share to you what my doctor informed me and my mom. But it ain't so I won't be telling anything. My family is a family of diabetics, its because of our lifestyle. Thankfully my mom changed ours when I was still around 10 years old. But, how are you doing right now, Hatley? You're in good condition, I hope.

You can even get Reeses with dark chocolate. Yum. I guess a bargain is not always a saving thing when it comes to your health. My sister just recently had to have her Metformin cut in half and my brother was allergic to it, but he took glyphiside, and then got his under control and is off of it.

Hatley aunty: It may be due to the fear you have about your health. See you have taken reading in the night only and then you took again next day--To avoid temptation to take reading often I did not buy such instruments. However in your case it may be required. be confident aunty-- you are alright. i am telling based on responses posted.

Hatley aunty: I agree you have to test your sugar at intervals. You are doing it as per doctor's advice, Based on practice chart out a food schedule that suits you and go by it also do not exceed medicine dosage without advice from doctors. I have an aunty 96+ years and she is fine and able to walk and do her duties. I wish you also stay very health for many more years and that of course requires your willingness and god's willingness.

44! Its a wonder you weren't in a COMA! I'd guess its because you spiked your blood sugar up with your snack and then it plummeted! Probably should've had more cheese and less peanut butter cups... I'm pretty sure that one of my allergic reactions is a sudden drop in blood sugar, it seemed to be closely related to Ranch salad dressing. It didn't happen with blue cheese, so I just quit eating Ranch, I like blue cheese better anyway (I like Italian too so that's what I actually normally eat.)

I don't know if you have been having a lot of wild temperature changes out where you live, but I know that we have been having some here. I am not personally a diabetic person, but I do have to say that one of my really close friends has a husband and son that are diabetic and the wild temperature changes that we have been experiencing this year have had a very weird effect on their blood sugars. Like I said, I could be wrong, but this might be something that could be having an impact on you as well.

I am so confused there ms. Hatley. Well, because I ain't diabetic. But I do understand a bit based on the ranges you said. It's quite really confusing why the difference was too far. So, drastic. Maybe, it has some effect when you take it all at once. I mean th sugary stuff. When you're low today then you will take too much later, then you checked it and became too high then you minimized it, then you slept and boom! Better have a balanced sugar eating next time. Don't you eat chocolates and cookies especially made for diabetics? Take care, ms.Hatley.

I also wondered why your sugar dropped from 190 to 44? Can it be due to your extensive sweating? Hatley, you should see your doctor immediately. Don't you have someone near you during your sleep?

I don't have diabetes but I have a number of friends who do. One of them tried a new insulin that was supposed to take effect quicker. Did it ever. He didn't remember the last thirty traffic lights he drove through after emergency personnel helped him get his sugars back up to the point where he was coherent. Very scary. He was lucky nothing really bad happened. Just scared himself and a lot of other people. I hope the doctors help you figure it out and you're doing ok.

Hi Hatley, sorry for being a wee bit late in responding but I've got so much on my plate these days that it's a wonder I have time to even think. Still, I want to keep in touch with my friends as best I can..... including YOU! My dad had the very same problem with his diabetes. It was an on going thing with him. One minute it would sky rocket and the next it would drop so low and he'd be sweating and shaking. He had a little Chihuahua dog named Sugar Plum and she woke him up two different times when his sugar got too low and in danger of dying. She was such a shy timid little ole thing but she knew what she needed to do and did it. It's a shame you can't have one where you're living at. I think it would benefit you in a great way but there again, not all dogs know to do what she did. She's up in Heaven with dad and mom now so they're all happy while we're down here missing them. Oh well, eh? I know I'll get to see them again some day.
