All doom and gloom at Christmas?

I've been checking out discussions I can join in today and it has filled me with despair. It's almost Christmas folks why so much doom and gloom? Relationships turning sour, depression setting in,not enough money to have fun - the list goes on and on. I decided to add a little Christmas Cheer and tell you how much I am looking foreward to tomorrow when I am going to a Carol Service. It will be filled with people from all over the place, it is an international church, and we will be singing our hearts out and then chatting over mince pies and Christmas treats each of us has prepared from our home country.
I am hoping that we will sing my favourite carol which is O Holy Night. I cannot be with my children, I have few friends in the country where I am living at present but I have a happy marriage and I am counting my blessings.
I wish you all a Happy Christmas too and may it lead to some very happy discussions in the New Year.

I'd love to attend a Carol Service. At our local church everything is sung by rote and I haven't a clue what's going on, so no hope there. I'm wondering whether I'm brave enough to try Christmas mass, but probably not.
I went to a party last night and had a mince pie, which quite made my Christmas. I have a pack of Tescos individual Christmas puddings which I'm guarding until Christmas Day too. Life is good!

Christmas indeed is supposed to be the time of merriment, but I guess some are just going to be unhappy coz of some lost love, lost relative or just simply away from their families. Nevertheless, Christmas is sure to come. So I would like to make my Christmas as happy as I can with my whole family. Merry Christmas, friend!

Like one member said, it is proven to be a depressing time of year and why I had no problem when I decided to no longer observe Christmas anymore. I have to say that the last few years have been so totally different, I am more at peace and very little stress during this time of year...

I didn't celebrate Christmas myself, but thanks for the wishes.
I agree that Christmas should be a good excuse for people to enjoy a bit and forget about everyday domestic issues, along with depressing thought.
For me, i try to get the best purchase i can, with all the shops promoting sales on their item. I'm helping mom to buy cheap but quality school items for my little brother for next term after New Year.

I like O HOly night.. very solemn.. very serene.. very cold.. but very inspiring. Yes, I am counting on my blessings too. Actually I have no plans of going home this Christmas I thought this is just the first time I will not be spending Christmas with the family. It is a good "miss" on their part. hahaha.. but then when I saw a house here with christmas lights on (the only house who has the christmas lights this is a Buddhist country so no christmas). I've decided to ran away for Christmas depression. I bought round trip tickets back home, and I will be with the family this Christmas time. They don't have any idea of what I will be doing. I will just be knocking on our door first thing in the morning on Christmas day. The expenses of plane tickets were very high, and I will definitely have a problem of paying them next year... but what a heck, that's the reason I am working that is for me to earn and spend. so why not. LOL. I can still earn the huge amount that will be bringing me for going home.

Bless you! I hope you have a very nice time and holiday! O Holy Night is my favorite Christmas carol too! I have been enjoying myself listening to Christmas music when I get the chance.. during my morning study, etc time especially when things are so nice and quiet. I too wish everyone a very nice Christmas and a very good upcoming year.
Thank you for the "good cheer"..

I love O Holy Night, and singing carols. An international church sounds very interesting to me. I am not getting to be on here very much and so I really had not noticed excessive gloom, other than as an aftermath to a number of shootings including children in our country. In fact that may have been the source of a lot of the down discussions. I cannot blame people for feeling shocked about twenty kids being shot and 6 adults, but I can also see where you are coming from.

I'm sorry that you cannot be with your children this Christmas, but happy that you will be spending this season with your husband, while you sing carols in the international church you attend, while you eat Christmas treats from many different countries! After wishing you a very Merry Christmas, I would also like to with you the best for the coming year!

yes and the reason why is its one of the most depressing xmases ever. little kids shot down before they can open their presents. lots of people with no money to buy anything. big cities like this is having more and more terrible crimes! its really hard to strive for that spirit but i keep trying. plus people like me thats so sick and still trying to make others have a good one @cupkitties (7421)

Is it really that bad? I'm just not feeling the holiday "joy", but I'm glad somebody is. Happy holidays to you.

I'm glad to see someone else noticed! I was over here being super excited about Christmas. I threw a Christmas party this past week, got all dressed up for it too! I've been getting up every morning and saying, "__ more days until Christmas!" "Christmas is on Tuesday everyone!" "Are you excited? I'M EXCITED!"
So, I am full of Christmas cheer and it's good to hear that you are as well! I hope you have heaps of fun at your Carol Service, and have a Merry Christmas!

My own favorite carol is Joy to the world, although I believe that I sing better Come all ye faithful.I sang both of them today while I was at the kitchen. Today I prepared some of the food I`ll take to my daughter`s home and I also made some zuchinni relish to give away as Christmas present.

I think that why there are so many unhappy things on discussion in mylot is that the economy is not very good in 2012,and it is a international issue and happen to every countries.
So I think you are right though there are many bad things happen in this year,we still need to celebrate our best festival, and as for me,I plan to go to another city and celebrate my Christmas Eve.

I'm glad you're seeing all the positive aspects of this wonderful time of year. It is a joyous time for those like me who celebrate it as a religious event but there are so many things to worry about and with the slaughter of those children on the 14th I think everyone, secular or religious, has a sadness that won't go away for awhile.
I went to the store today and got a miniature cake for Jesus. I'll eat it with Christmas dinner, like my boys and I used to do and I might even sing happy birthday.
The sun is out after a blizzard the other night so it's beautiful and will remain so through Christmas Day, or so they say.
I have so many favorite carols! O Little Town of Bethlehem, O Holy Night, Carol of the Bells to name just a few. One wonderful thing about living here is that while I can't attend the candlelight service (I can't drive at night anymore) I can sit on my back steps and hear the church bells ring out carols. It is so beautiful!

This is the time of year for it. The international church sounds interesting. I hope we have happier, even fun, discussions in the new year. It has been a very sad holiday season with Sandy, bad weather in the midwest and then the Newtown incident. How anyone could have a normal and joyous Christmas this year is beyond me.
