Getting a B+ with no mods

So I went to Cary's IEP yesterday. It had been postponed from December so that R could attend. R could not attend. But I digress... For anybody who's new, Cary has mild autism. He's in special education part of the day, and in regular classes the rest of the day. He's still got some challenges with language, like understanding abstract concepts and expressing them, but he's doing great. One of the nice pluses was that he is getting a B+ in Science, which is one of the classes he is attending outside the special education program. That was really nice to hear. I'm being a brat and waiting for R to ask how it went, but I'll tell him eventually. Anyway, yay Cary!

I don't think I did anything well in school unless it was creative writing, (I wrote a poem in 6th grade that I wish I had made a copy of, because it was sent somewhere.)

School was easy for me until I hit pre-algebra, and from there on, certain things weren't any more.

I did really well in science until High School, and once it started involving math i was doomed. Math is Cary's strength.

I would be proud too. My grandson is in a special program at school also. He is doing well enough he can go to main stream Science sometime coming up. He has ODD and can really be a handful like he has been lately. I just posted a discussion about it. I hope Cary continues doing so well. Go Cary! lol

He can be such a little jewel when he wants to be. ANd he can also change into tyrant so fast. Its literally scarey. Screaming, throwing things. Fun!

My son was recently diagnosed with mild pervasive developmental disorder and tourettes, as well as self mutism symptoms. He has had an IEP for as long as he has been in school though. He has really started to excel in math and I have been so proud of his efforts lately!!! He's been doing awsome, it is so great to see them do so well. Great job to your son and keep bragging!!!! It's wonderful!

self mutism is that the person cannot or will not talk in certain situations or with certain people. My son, Nathan, will not talk in large groups, ex. school class room. He has a very hard time communicating with strangers and people he is not that familiar with. He works very hard to overcome his struggles. He used to not even be able to ask his teacher to use the washroom at school but is slowly improving.

That's wonderful! As you can see I'm way behind in my discussion notifications. Of course right now I'm not getting any from mylot, and haven't in over a week. So I have time to catch up with the older ones, like these. I'm glad to hear he is doing so well.

That's so GREAT! I know how hard it is to understand abstract problems even WITHOUT autism, but science is one of those things that can be pretty concrete, so its good that he's doing so well in it. I did okay with math until they started throwing in those letters... I mean... letters can't mean anything - right?

Well done to Cary getting a B+ in Science. It is great he has special education for part of the day suitable for his mild autism and goes to regular classes for the rest of the time. My son is aged five years old. He is in a wheelchair and he has catheter care. His special needs assistant is able to do his diaper and she does his catheter twice in every school day. I do his catheter the rest of the day and night. My son's disabilities are spina bifida and hydrocephalus plus possibly something else. The school put my son on an IEP for those that don't know that is an Individual Education Plan. For home my son is meant to talk about what he did at school. He says nothing. I have asked his learning support assistant to write down what he does each day in the home and school contact book. He is also meant to help out at home with some independent tasks. Really I thought when I read that. Successful Cary.

Did a little reading, and it sounds like the hydrocephalus was probably caused by the spinal bifida?

Hiya dawn, Congrats to him he has done really well there. He will get over the other problems in time. With some it might take longer and with others they grasp the concept right away I was terrible in Maths and very good in all the rest so there you go. Is he your Grandson sorry I don´t know I imagine from what celticeagle writes that he is I would be very proud of him too.xxx

Hi dawnald. How are you doing? It has been a quite long time since we interacted here on mylot. And I am very glad to see that carey is doing very good. And a B+ in science is really impressive. And if interest is developed carey might score even better in science. Anyways have a nice day and yay Cary !!! ~=SuperShames=~

It will be interesting to see if he does ask soon. As for Cary, this may be one of his special talents. Science may be concrete enough that he will excel in it. Good job Cary.

Can he tutor my son who has no disabilities but is failing science? This dummy of mine failed 3 classes last year, English, Spanish, and Math.. and is retaking those this year, and guess what? Failing them again, along with science. The only thing he's doing good in is social studies.

That is great for Cary! Not telling the ex about Cary's success until he bothers to ask how things went works.

Depends on how severe it is, but his autism isn't real severe.
