Extreme Couponing

Right now I'm watching Extreme Couponing on Discovery Channel and the show makes me sick. The woman currently featured spends 50-60 hours a week cutting out coupons and ignores her kids to do so. The show followed the family to the beach, where the mom preferred to sit and cut out coupons rather than play with her kids. Cutting coupons caused her so much stress that she was a wreck over doing it. There is a room in her house that is so stocked it looks like a food pantry. I imagine half of what she has stored there will go bad before her family is able to eat it! My family will sometimes use coupons on things that are expensive but my mom hates most store brands. I don't understand people who are obsessed with coupons. Do you use coupons when you shop?

I am glad that these people can do well with couponing. For me it is not paying off, as the things that have coupons, I dont buy. Why should I buy things that I dont normally buy just to use a coupon? Often times, I can buy the cheaper product that does not have a coupon. I probably do not know the correct way to do it.

We don´t have them lol so it does not pay either way neither cheaper food either as we are finding cheaper brands are very bad quality just lately. Never mind that way we don´t eat too much.

Sometimes. I'm not some crazy coupon lady though. My step mom used to be called the coupon queen by the stores. She had this huge box and spent every day clipping and she even carried that box with us on shopping trips. Great for her saving money, embarrassing for us kids.

@phoonk Oh no. With my parents, you did as they said like it or not. No arguments, questions or complaints about it or things might get really scary.

Then you definitely would have tried to talk your way out of shopping with her during childhood.

I used to be better about it in the past, but I don't buy from the regular grocery store chains much anyway these days, so I don't have a use for many of the coupons out there. It does save money - but only if you're going to use what you're going to buy. I love a good bargain and look for the deals - but I don't want to spend my time clipping tons of coupons to that extreme!

I tend to buy as much fresh fruit and veggies as I can. The Kroger family store gives some coupons for things like that.

I have seen that extreme coupon show before. I agree. Who could spend all day cutting coupons? Not me. We use them, but we don't spend more than a few minutes cutting or getting them together.

@phoonk I think those upon people are much worse than just collecting movie posters or magazines. They take to a level that is hazardous.

@inertia4 Exactly, they cut coupons like we used to cut out the pictures of the movie actors from magazines and newspapers during oyr childhood, only in a more crazy way.

ebay is the biggest coupon based online shopping website with quality products and with top rated seller,i always buy products from its top rated or power sellers so i nerver disappointed from ebay yet,if you dont purchase from its top rated or power sellers you may suffer,so my opinion is this please go always with its top rated or power seller if you dont want any issues in your's prouct.

@mealid Yes ebay give good coupons. But the program she is talking about is so crazy. I mean the people collects newspapers and cut all the coupons available and they buy trucks of necessary and unnecessary items, yes literally truck full of items.

I usually don't. I have a friend who is a "heavy couponing" type (not an extreme type): between the sales and the coupons she does well. Personally, I don't even get the local newspaper (it's so bad I'm afraid I'd be turned in to the SPCA for letting a dog use the bathroom on it), but I do get e-mail notifications from Kroger, and if it's something I need I'll take advantage of it.

Kroger will take the records of what you buy based on your loyalty card and will send you coupons a few times a year.

I don't and never have couponed. The time spent comparing, cutting and shopping would be better spent on a part time job that would cover any savings on the coupons!

I can understand her trying to get a bargain so to speak but to take it to that extreme is not realistic. You are right the Food will go off before she can eat all of it. We very rarely have offers or coupons on Food anymore they have stopped it almost altogether not that they did much before that anyway so I don´t miss it really but it would be nice to have a lower price on say tomatoes and lettuce the prices are exhorbitant for this time of year. Great post and something to think about too.

I am no extreme coupon, but I will use them where I can. I have a stock pile but I saw once as I don't have a tv anymore them having like 50 boxes of cereal. That would do me a few years!!!
