First of all by learning all they can about why they are in constant pain. Talk with your doctor about different methods to control the pain. Try to reduce the stress in your life by doing deep breathing exercises. Exercise as a healthier body feels less pain. If some body movement or activities seem to aggrevate your pain find alternative ways or get help for those activities. Find a Cronic Pain Support Group and you won't feel so alone in your pain and someone may know of a way to better control the pain that you hadn't heard of before. Don't let your pain consume your life, take back control. Do you have a way to control your Pain?

Yes, I control my pain by altering what I do and how I do things. I don't go on mile walks or hikes. I do go places I know that will have places for me to rest and sit in between walking. I plan ahead. I know where i am going and plan accordingly.

@Marcyaz It is all trail and error really. Sometimes I mess up and over do it. It doesn't stop me from trying and pushing my limits. It si the only way I have been able to surpass my limitations. keep trying.

@rusty2rusty Trial and error well it is better than not trying at all, isn't it?

These are great ideas. I feel badly for the ones who become addicted to opiodes due to acute pain. A support group sounds like a great idea but, if you are in major pain who feels like going to one. I wonder if you could Skype one? Hmm.

I live with bad pain in my feet. The tendons above my heels on both feet. Its something that's not gonna get better unless I can stay off them..but I've gotta earn a living you know, and I gotta be on my feet soo... pain for the rest of my life it is. Pain medicine can help me keep going through my workday but it is a hard road sometimes.

Apart from when I did my back I never really had chronic pain which wouldn't go away. For my back I was give a tiny table which took away the most of the pain. Away about 3 weeks I was back to normal.

I am so sorry to hear that. I pray that Jesus Christ will touch them both. Jesus took 39 lashes so that by His stripes we were healed. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He loves you, your Dad and brother. Turn to Him pray for them. I am a living example of His healing power. He still heals and does all kinds of miracles all across the world.

I have headaches sometimes and it's very annoying. I can't do anything until the hedache goes away. I went to the doctor and found out that stress is responsible. So I need to reduce stress which is hard to manage.

I don't have constant pain, but my husband does and the idea of a support group is excellent, except I doubt he would agree.

If you could convince him to go just once he may be surprised and keep going back. It wouldn't hurt to try.

@Marcyaz Probably not, he isn't a "people" kind of guy, at least in a group setting, but one on one, he can talk for hours.

Yoga is supposed to help with relaxation and cutting down on stress, and eating foods with anti-inflammatory properties like the Mediterranean diet calls for can help. So far the only thing that's worked for me was an antidepressant that I had to stop taking a few weeks in due to side effects. I'm taking something that's not quite a narcotic, but that only helps as long as I keep up on my doses. The downside of getting rid of the pain and feeling good is that I overdo it and land myself in bed for a few days. Still haven't quite got the hang of managing my activity, so if I feel good I think I'm Superwoman and try to do everything I've been putting off.

I completely understand where your coming from. As soon as I felt a little better I would try to catch up on the house work, laundry etc...I would ALWAYS pay for it later. Especially when I took prednisone as it would take the swelling out of the nerve that was being pinched. I would wake up without pain sometimes and get up and within 20 minutes the pain would start. Praise God I am so glad its behind me as long as I don't over due.

I have RA and fibromyalgia so I am always in some kind of pain every day. Some days aren't as bad as others. After a while, you get to where you can live with a certain amount of pain as it becomes your new normal. When the pain gets extreme, I have medications to take for it.

@simone10 It is definitely not fun and can be depressing. Yes some people are in therapy or taking anti-depressants which hopefully are helping them.

@Marcyaz It's not fun and it can be depressing sometimes if you let it get to you. A lot of people who have chronic pain are also in therapy and/or taking anti-depressants.

I don't have chronic pain yet have sporadic pain that is usually connected to a food allergy. There is lots of info on the web about managing inflammation and pain naturally. I'm glad I don't have ongoing pain!

my medical hiccups mainly jest torment the doc's 's they've not a clue what to do fer 'em. most 've my pain is from inflammation 'n i take lots 'f turmeric fer such. i also push myself to remain active - e'en when joints/tendons/muscles all feel like they'd feel better if'n they jest went 'head 'n 'xploded. add muscle spasms throughout, includin' the brain, 'n it can be most dauntin'. i concentrate on mother nature 'n her gifts. mediate kinda - envisionin' the gentle swayin' 'f leaves on the trees or the calmin' sounds 'f a babblin' creek.

Luckily I have medicine for it. I do not know what I would do without it. No amount of exercise can fix this, only the meds can ease the pain.

The only real comfort I found was the Lord's touch, His presence. I would put on worship music and worship the Lord get my mind off of my pain. I had 4 neck surgeries and suffered from 1996 to March 2005. I went to a worship service and was worshipping the Lord and suddenly I felt heat flow through my body and the pain from hell left my body. I danced and praised the Lord. I have limitations but I am grateful for them as I am no longer tormented by the pain from hell. I was on a LOT of pain medication and sometimes it helped but the body builds up a tolerance for the pain medicines and they no longer work like the did at first. Praise God for His healing power to help us!
