Children Dying In Cars

What is up with this over the last few years? Every summer you hear about it on the news. The media always has tips, etc to help avoid this happening and yet it still happens every year. Call me dumb but I just don't understand how someone can forget their child is in the car. How can that happen? I do understand that most of the time it is unintentional but I just don't get it. When my kids were babies, I never ever forgot they were in the car with me. Are these people just on auto pilot or what? I also feel they should be charged with murder, intentional or not because to me, that is exactly what it is. These deaths are senseless and could be avoided entirely and it just makes me angry every year when you hear about it on the news. How do you feel about it?

Those people just don't care about anyone but themselves. These are the same people who would back their car out of their garage without bothering to know exactly where all their children are before-hand. They just don't care.

@Novelangel Your Welcome, It is true all some people care about is themselves. They miss out on so much in life being like that.

This doesn't make sense to me either. I cannot leave my little child alone in a car ever.

@Marcyaz I had 2 and never left them. How can you forget your own child?

When my children were little they were usually in the front seat, which is in itself dangerous, but I talked to them etc while they rode. People are on auto pilot, either because of stress or electronic distractions. Still, I would not think I could ever forget a child in my car.

There can be no excuse for leaving a child in a vehicle and just go off and do whatever they are doing.

@GardenGerty I know I wouldn't ever forget either. Even if they are quiet during the drive, I would still remember they are there.

I can't figure out why people leave their kids in the car, and forget they are there. How in the world can they forget they are there? They must space out or something. Lately, I have heard story after story of this happening. It brings tears to my eyes to hear this happening. i never heard about this before this summer.

@simone10 I know, and how parents can forget their children are even in the car, just boggles my mind. That should be the first thing to cherck, is to make sure that their kids aren't in the car.

I've only heard about this once and i think it is outrageous and really sad. I know the parents may also be hurt because of losing their child, but they should also be help responsible/punished because a child is very helpless

It is quite irresponsible, and I like you just don't get it. I have heard the excuse, 'I was just running into the store for a minute'. Well, you could have taken your child with you.

I also can not understand how anyone can forget there child is in the car. That to me is unforgivable and just reckless and those type of people should not have a child. They should be put in prison for this.

@simone10 It is definitely murder whether intentional or not, they are adults and should be taking care of there children not harming them.

When we were little, we weren't restrained in car seats we couldn't get out of. Our mothers weren't driving us to day care before they went to work or dropping three different kids off at three different places. Cars didn't have child-proof locks so children can't open the doors from inside, or electric windows and windows could be rolled down manually. Baby car seats are in the back seat and face the rear. You cannot see your child. I can tell you that for a long time, I would be halfway to work and turn to my passenger co-worker and ask "Now, I did drop this one off here, right? I did drop that one off there, right?" Because life was simply too hurried and harried and I was so afraid I would be distracted and forget something or someone. I can see it happening. I don't believe it's murder and I can't imagine the grief and guilt of having that happen. It's very hard to juggle so many aspects of life all before 7:30 am. But people need to make sure that they do checks, because they can forget or make a distracted mistake. I did my checks with my passenger.

If you're dumdb, then I must be as well. Because like you, I don't understand how some can just just forget their kids in hot cars. It makes no sense. How many kids have to do die in hot cars, before people learn? It makes no sense to me.

People don't care and they are selfish and self serving. Until something horrible happens people take a lot of risks, even with their own children. It is just too much trouble to get them out of the care and put them in a stroller and be responsible and caring for their own children. These people shouldn't be allowed the joy of having children. Narcissism isn't a characteristic that mothers and fathers and caregivers should have.

I agree with you that these people don't even need children. If your life is so busy and hectic that you could forget your child, then you shouldn't have had any to begin with.

I can understand that we live a stressful life, but how can you forget a child in the car?! A child is not a toy or an object. Children need all our love and attention. They must not be excused, people must learn what is important in life.

You're not dumb. I mean, it's a CHILD. I take better care of my Kindle than some people do their kids. I've never left my Kindle in a hot car....and my Kindle doesn't cry or poop it's pants.

Are Children some luggage to simply drop inside the car. They are our own blood and have a lot of feelings. We should take our child for shopping when we go there, let them see everything, don't leave them alone. Mastering child care, adjustment mentality, readiness of hard work.... should be adopted before giving birth to a child. Otherwise avoid giving birth a lot of preventive measures are available. while bringing up a child we should compromise our enjoyment a lot. Children are not toys, don't play with them.

There is no reason for leaving a child and/or baby in a hot car.
