Baby On the Way, But Hospital Sent Her Home!

The other day I posted about my sister in law having mild contractions, well that turned out to be Braxton Hicks and therefore we ended up going out to a dinner party that late evening. Sunday went by and still no pains which was good. Today however, the real contractions have started! They are still not that frequent but she is getting them quite painful. The hospital sent her home because there were no beds free, how shocking is that!. They stated when she is in real pain and water has broken then come back.

@utkarshn28 - She everywhere it is money that matters, humans or their sufferings are not valued.

@gudheart - Your profile does not reveal to which country do you belong to? If you are from India then I would say that there is no health policy or system at all and there is huge demand and supply gap.

It is sad to see that the health care system is really suffering.

This is what happens all the time in Italy. Last month they had sent home one woman and she had the baby on the lawn of the hospital. This is a shame!

This happens regularly. Her doctors should have told her before that she shouldn't head to the hospital until her contractions are 5 minutes apart. If she goes too early the hospital will send her home. That's just how things are done.

I remember the first time she had a baby she got a bed easily, apparently it is just a busy month for giving birth!

They said when that happens they will have to force one free! Luckily when it did there was a bed free.

I am sure she feels worried and stressed and would be much more comfortable in the hospital. I hope there's no problem when she goes back.

If it was me I would be really panicking being sent home in pain.

Especially with the first one the mom is usually sent home. Don't forget the Hicks. It gets so exciting doesn't it?

The contractions were still bad, and it was not Hicks. Luckily she got a bed when water broke.

That doesn't sound so professional to me. If she is having real contractions would it be a risk to send her home?

That is what I thought, but lack of beds meant they had no option.

It is really shocking that your sister-in-law was turned away from hospital, when she should have been admitted in the hospital. I think your sister in law had to option of approaching another nearby hospital and to make a complaint about the hospital which refused to admit her. I hope she is fine and had safely delivered the baby?

I'm sure by now she might have had the baby and found out what they mean by real pain unless she had an epidural..Congrats!

Good grief, what are contractions if not real pain? She should have stood her ground.

How awful! I hope that she will be able to make it back within plenty of time, that must be very stressful for her! Was there not a facility close by they could have sent her? If not for eventual delivery than atleast a bed and medical personnel to help her feel comfortable.

Yes, if the woman is not dilated enough and the water hasn't broken, there is nothing the hospital can do anyways. I live far enough away from the hospital, that when I went there with my last child and it was around 11pm, they debated on having me go home. Fortunately they decided the distance was too far and that is good, because within a couple hours my water broke.

I think if I could do it over, I'd have my babies at home with a midwife. Of my five children, the doctor missed two of the deliveries regardless.
