'I do not look good enough'

Hello everyone! Each one of us wish to look good and wish to be appreciated for our looks. Are you the one who regularly check yourself on the weighing machine or keep checking mirrors to find out if you are looking good? Do you ask your friends/relatives - "Am I looking fat or slim"? It is a kind of stress which many of undergo. Do you feel this kind of stress? Our self confidence and self esteem is more important than our looks and if we are confident, we could handle any situation rather than stressing ourselves about our looks.

I always look good! Beauty should come from within. If someone is just an unpleasant person (bad attitude, bad mouthed, radiating negative vibes), well it won't matter how "beautiful" this person looks on the outside (unless the other person is that shallow). That being said, I do think neatness and cleanliness can count for a lot too. Not necessarily for beauty's sake, but to show that you take care to take care of yourself.

Yes, we have no doubt that you are beautiful and you look good. You are very right that beauty comes from inside and outside beauty if not supported by inner beauty is of no use. To remain neat and tidy is imperative unless one wants to tell the world that - he damn cares.

@dpk262006 I guess if anything, people should look at themselves in the mirror to see if they are a good person. A person could be extremely beautiful (or even neat and tidy for that matter), but they may not necessarily have a good heart.

yes I agree with you but I think is normal for us to wish to looks as good as we can. I won't denny that there are moments when I feel in-secure but I try to regain my self-confidence because there's nothing that looks better than a woman who's confident about herself

So you feel stressed about your looks, however, you try your best to over come your stress and try to feel self confident. Please don't worry about your looks. What matters is how you actually are and if you have a feeling of self confidence in you. If you feel you need to develop your self confidence, you should take some steps in this regard.

@swissheart - Let them do what they want. You should not get affected by them checking you from head to toe. You should have the confidence in you that you are good and their inspection of you is not going to make an affect on you.

Well said worrying about looks doesn't get us anywhere, it only increases our stress hormones, start up oxidative processes in the body, and make us look even more weary. Confidence, self-believe and positivity on the other hand, add glow to the face and body and make us look naturally healthy and good. I see myself in the mirror and I like myself more when I'm happy and positive. Our reflection in the mirror truly reflect our current state of mind and personality.

It is great to hear that you believe that our self esteem matters more than our looks and worrying about our looks takes us no where. Standing in front of mirror and saying to oneself - I look good and I have positive energy" will help us face the life in a better way.

I hardly look in the mirror, I know I look fine. I do weigh myself often, but that is because I was very ill recently and lost about 70 lbs so I do monitor it, especially since I am on a regular diet now, trying to gain a few more back.

@Pattitude It was cruel on his part to call you ugly or make you feel ugly.. This is disgusting. Yes, you are right that he himself would have remained very insecure and used to call you ugly. Each one of us is beautiful, as we are sons/daughters of the great God and the Creator makes everyone beautiful.

@dpk262006 I was once married to a very abusive man, and he was emotionally abusive as well. He convinced me that I was ugly. It took many years for me to get my self-esteem back and I now realize how insecure he was. He must have been afraid another man would find me attractive.

Our confidence comes from what we have. If I look pretty beautiful, I will feel so lucky because I inherit a great fortune from my parents, just like someone inherit a lot of money from his or her parents, which will make me feel confident. But if I don't look beautiful, which is more possible, I should acquire confidence from other factors. For instance, I could learn hard to accumulate knowledge, I could also work hard to accumulate fortune, or I could cultivate good temper to let others feel comfortable to work or live with me.

You have very well summed up that if one is not beautiful s/he should compensate for his/her beauty with other factors such as confidence and by acquiring knowledge. Do you feel confident about your looks?
• China
7 Oct 15
@dpk262006 Haha, personally speaking, my appearance is quite normal. I feel confident about it. But I acquire more confident mainly through accumulating knowledges, which is more valuable than appearance.

I think you should not bother about your looks. What matters is - your qualities and your attitude towards others. If you show them respect and behave with them nicely, that will fetch you more accolades than your look. People are too busy to notice how others look.

You must remember two things- a) The need to look good is a primal desire connected to mating! That's the animal part of us- Looks & strength are completely physical aspects and are therefore the two aspects women used to look for in a suitor. I say ''used'' to because it isn't so anymore. A good personality is the need of the hour. Sure physical aspects do add greatly to it but remember they can be easily compensated for ( Case in point, Salman Rushdie with Padma Laxmi and scores of other "hot" women ). b) Your self-esteem has a direct relation with how you "think" you look. Remember its all about a benchmark you set for yourself. If you think you look fat and you workout and lose a kilo, immediately you'll start feeling confident at having made a weight loss ( even if its negligent but because you made a difference in yourself will boost your confidence! ). Its all in the head so your aim should be to do things to get it outta der.
