Are You Unsatisfied by Your Response When Asked what You Do for a Living?

I often am asked what I do, and there is no single title for what I do, so I can't list a cookie cutter job that people can ooh and aah over. In fact it sounds rather boring and people turn away, and I feel unsatisfied. And when they ask what I do in my spare time, I can't very well say what I really do and expect casual responses. It's not like I can say I research ancient cultures & forgotten technology, am currently searching for the root of religion, studying demonology, looking into the defining concept of supernatural potential in humanity, studying pagan beliefs and potential magical foundations, wandering through conspiracy theories, am trying to hone retrocognitive properties in myself to find out about the past, trying to understand the nature of the foundation of realities and writing about whatever suits my fancy. Oh, and by the way, I read all sorts of stuff that probably can't be listed past a certain point.
I'm sure people would be more satisfied by me saying "I go to the bar and hang out, and watch sports", but that's not what I will say.
Are you unable to list the things you do and say them clearly to others, or is it just me?

Amaze them or frighten them away? 
I know that some people don't like the things I research and look into. I had an atheist girlfriend once and she accused me of being religious, and I said I was spiritual... and she didn't see the difference. I really liked that one, but she got away.

I am retired now but never felt like my job was exciting (I worked in an accounting dept) and always wished I had a job that raised eyebrows when I mentioned it

@OneOfMany I never could understand the gimmick of bar hopping and drinking...why not just buy a bottle and stay home?..so much cheaper..plus you don't have to deal with all that smoke..ugh..

I can't hear in bars, and I value my hearing! Plus, there's no satisfaction in drinking to drink. If I want to do that I can drink water. :P

@Rosekitty It's because men are hunting women who are letting weaknesses show, and women are flirting or getting 'girl time' in. I don't know. It all seems foolish to me.

I just tell them what I do. Never had people ooh-ing or aah-ing over it as far as I can remember. I like the "trying to understand the nature of the foundation of realities and writing about whatever suits my fancy" part. Why not stick to that answer?

@OneOfMany If they ask that for the sake of making conversation, I'd just give them that answer and see how they would respond.

Because it doesn't earn me a living yet! I have been asked what I do two times in the past 24 hours now. It's always in the top ten list. :P

Yes i always am unable to say it all and more so when i realize the person asking just want to know where i am with my life and maybe compare it to theirs

Well usually the person asking is a prospective date or a person I'm meeting for the first time. If it's someone I've known for a while I can say more, but most of it has to be left out. I get the impression that they think I'm not doing anything.

@Missmwngi Probably a good plan. I could sum it up into a shorter list and let the details overwhelm them at a later time.

@OneOfMany Well if it is a date just get two or three things that you do and which are the main ones and leave the rest lest the person get tired of listening to the list of the things you do

Anything I listed is what I do in my spare time. What I do in my committed time is help my father, mother and uncle with their projects.

lol could say you like to read and study comparative religion, and the nature of man. I usually stick with liking to read, it's simple and covers so many things.
