I have been to one cooking with herbs class, and I will go to one tomorrow. The theme tomorrow is using fresh herbs in soups.
To me there is nothing that tastes better than fresh herbs in cooking. The class tomorrow will be like a mini vacation for me.
The class is held in a large old limestone home, with an herb garden out back.
Soothing and relaxing and yummy too.

In the past I have not been very successful with growing herbs but there is always next year.

It is different from the way things taste with herbs from the grocery store.

Sounds exciting! I love herbs in soups. I've been checking some pictures of herb indoor gardens online. I think it would be so nice to grow them in my kitchen!

With enough light you can do it. It would be very satisfying to do.

I think it is a work in progress. The kitchen and dining/classroom is pretty well finished and furnished with antique tables and chairs. The rest of her house is private.

On the islands I grow all my own herbs. I grew some dill not too long ago because I decided to plant a cucumber that makes excellent pickles. I gave some to my family to eat and it was the first time they ever ate that. I grow all fresh herbs here, most of the time I cook with them fresh but when I have too many I dry them out and put them in bottles to cook with them.

That sounds wonderful. I think that eating from the garden is very healthy and also the act of growing a garden is good for both body and soul.

That sounds like an interesting class. I like herbs and use fresh ones occasionally mostly dill, parsley and chives. You'll have to share what you learn.

Oh, I hope to. Today will be soups. I did learn the last time that you wait and add your basil to your dishes, especially soups for about the last fifteen minutes or the flavors get too muddy.

For us Chinese, we are big on herbs.
However, most of the herbs in use are dried herbs, unless you count ginger and other herbs used in cooking curry.
The herbs sold in Chinese shops can come from roots, leaves, or animal parts.
Once I get some herbs to relieve toothache.
Guess what is one of the herbs? It is a bee. After I drink the black soup, the bee suddenly appeared in the bottom of the bowl.

That sounds like a great class to be taking!
I love it when I can find the fresh herbs marked down in the produce section, since I haven't been able to grow any of my own. You're absolutely right that there isn't anything better than fresh herbs in cooking.
Is it a one-time thing, or do they hold it throughout the year? I would love to possibly sign up for it the next time we're out that way visiting family. Right now is such a beautiful time of year in that area, too...

Where is your family? The way I understand it her classes are on the second or third Friday and Saturday of the month. Karen talks about the health benefits of herbs as well. The other class I attended focused on basil.

that sounds like all kinds of fun, an herb garden might be a fun place to try next year to actually have a garden

I hope to have my act together and post about it. I was too busy moving after the other class I took.
